Mermaids - new statement

I can't find a thread that mentions this. Sorry if this has been covered but didn't want it to get lost:
Times Lucy has tried to question Mermaids again - but as usual, they won't be questioned and just put out a statement:

The tags alone are Hmm

SwearyG · 06/04/2019 08:18

It’s always such pompous windbaggery isn’t it. Along the lines of “I did not have sexual relations with that woman”. Idiots.

I think (hope) that their days are numbered now. It certainly looks like it’s in its death throes.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 06/04/2019 08:18

Interesting.

I was Shock that they basically said that yes they do all of those things.

SharkBastard · 06/04/2019 08:27

Those tags Shock

MsMcWoodle · 06/04/2019 08:28

Interesting that it is further proof that they absolutely will not be questioned. Not just Mermaids, but throughout this movement.
This makes it easy for them to put down pat answers without follow up - though the answers they give are very telling.

Will be interesting to read the Times tomorrow.

donquixotedelamancha · 06/04/2019 08:31

Wow. That is huge. They are gaming the assessment process to push children towards puberty blockers then hormones.

This shows that:

  1. Clinicians know this is happening.
  2. Mermaids have admitted the exact mechanism they use to pressure clinicians.

Send up the bat signal, twitter to everyone, share as wide as possible. This needs ramming home to politicians.

RepealTheGRA · 06/04/2019 08:34

Looking forward to Lucy’s article Star

lottiebel123 · 06/04/2019 08:47

the wheels are coming off..

FermatsTheorem · 06/04/2019 08:47

How strange that "hate crimes" is in the list of tags. Why would Mermaids think that was in any way relevant to the questions asked or to their answers?

Ereshkigal · 06/04/2019 08:48

Why indeed.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 06/04/2019 08:55

Seriously those tags...it’s like a trail of teenage spite. Why on earth would a reputable organisation tag Caroline Farrow?

DpWm · 06/04/2019 08:56

So they go into schools with batshit theories like "if you like pink you are really a girl and if you don't then you're really a boy" basically teaching gender confusion in children.
They encourage GNC children to contact GIDS because they've convinced them they're 'trans'. If the child is encouraged to watch and wait by gids, Mermaids writes a complaint letter for them.
They allow targetted vilification of any practitioners who do not rush the child onto a medical pathway.
The pressures and working conditions the practitioners at GIDS are under make it impossible for them to do their job.

Mermaids do not deny any of this and say basically it's right they should do these things.

Iused2BanOptimist · 06/04/2019 08:58

LOL those tags. At the Roman Baths in Bath people wrote little notes and curses about people who had wronged them on lead and threw them in the spring. Those tags are like a certain person's collection of pet rages to throw to the God's. Grin

Iused2BanOptimist · 06/04/2019 09:00

Any chance of someone cleverer than me infiltrating the forum and subtly throwing spanners in the works with advice re gender neutral toys, dressing up, healthy diversionary hobbies and interests etc?

Janie143 · 06/04/2019 09:02

Well that certainly shows who they are Absolutely should be highlighted to Politicians And Police as a tag OMG !

DpWm · 06/04/2019 09:02

Iused2B
I assume saying anything sensible goes against their talk guidelines.

MoltenLasagne · 06/04/2019 09:03

I feel like there’s a whole article that could be written purely on the fact they’ve tagged Caroline Farrow and what that says about the type of organisation they are.

Fazackerley · 06/04/2019 09:08

The tags are Shock

What a spiteful organisation it is.

FermatsTheorem · 06/04/2019 09:10

iusedtobe I don't think they'd last long before the ban hammer was wielded. I've read accounts on here written by parents of children who genuinely tried to use Mermaids for support, but who wanted help with "watchful waiting" (the approach the Tavistock actually recommends for young teens) and they basically got hounded off the boards.

LangCleg · 06/04/2019 09:13

Wow. Way to throw their own parents under the bus!

A big boy used our forum did it and ran away.

RepealTheGRA · 06/04/2019 09:13

Mermaids is a self help/support group in the same way proana sites are for anorexics

NotBadConsidering · 06/04/2019 09:15

To tag Caro is just vile. It has nothing to do with her. Out of interest, l looked to see what sort of stuff is on their forum but you can’t, they’re closed. Then I saw this: the reasons why they have such strident security measures to join their forum is because they've had men infiltrate a supposed safe space for their own nefarious reasons under various different guises. Just...words fail me.

Mermaids - new statement
MsJeminaPuddleduck · 06/04/2019 09:17

That seems very pointed to name the journalist rather than just the news organisation. Are they trying to encourage a social media pile-on on Lucy B from their supporters to intimidate her do you think?

Fazackerley · 06/04/2019 09:17

Of course they are.
