prideinlondon.org/news/2019/3/31/a-pride-without-hate

'Susie Green, CEO of Mermaids said: To back out of Pride in London when they are showing that they are addressing these issues only bows to hate. Mermaids is working with our partners and Pride in London. We will only take part if we are satisfied that concerns have been addressed and that security and safety, especially of vulnerable people, particularly children, is paramount. Pride in London have apologised for the mistakes made last year, and the distress caused. They are committed to standing up to intimidation and oppression. So are Mermaids, alongside our partners Stonewall, UK Black Pride and We Level Up”. '

The devastation wreaked by those 8 lesbians! Central London is still a wasteland...

Why does SG get to dictate conditions in this way?

OP posts:
littlbrowndog · 07/04/2019 21:39

Is what you might call female bodied 😂😂😂

Jeez skyz everything you write is just so word salad and very slippery

Answers very slippery.

Not a fucking clue what you actually mean

littlbrowndog · 07/04/2019 21:42

Wtaf is identifying as a lesbian. You are either a lesbian or you or not

Al,this I identify shite. It’s just shite

Herding cats would be easier than trying to read this shite

2BthatUnnoticed · 07/04/2019 21:57

Sky if coercing sex is wrong... why should lesbians who agree with that, be excluded from the March? Confused

The coercion and even sexual assault of lesbians (which you are minimise and dismiss) is homophobia.

LGBT groups are being complicit in homophobia, by ignoring lesbians who raise these concerns.

MM is dictating terms, because Stonewell will put MM (and $) before lesbians. The trans lobby is economically and politically powerful.

I respectfully submit that you are being deeply disingenuous. I also note that you are, once again, derailing the OP.

2BthatUnnoticed · 07/04/2019 22:04

TheGoalls I agree that usually lesbians cannot hold any public forum without that happening Angry

But won’t all the trans people be marching at Pride? So if lesbians did want to hold an event, they could do it that night.

FloralBunting · 07/04/2019 22:05

YouveGotAxes, yes, I'm familiar with the effect! In fact, for a time, I questioned whether biphobia was actually a thing, because the abuse I suffered was very much homophobic in nature.

I'm re-addressing that lately, with the inherent dismissal involved 'everyone's a bit bi' stuff, the 'bisexuals are just not choosy' thing and this weird trans-based total erasure thing.

Anyway, a derail, which I shall stop, I was just thinking aloud. Back to asking if its appropriate for a lobby group for transing kids to be exerting control over and even for lesbians, gay men and bisexual people...

2BthatUnnoticed · 07/04/2019 22:21

Agree that bisexual people are also under attack and being told they should “evolve” to being “pan” which is more “inclusive.”

Self identified “cis” women in relationships with trans women cannot say they are bisexual (although 30 years ago they would have been boring old heteros).

Their partners identify as women, so to call themselves anything but lesbians would invalidate their partners’ identity as women.

Sorry - I’ll stop derailing - back to MM’s takeover of Pride.

Amoregentlemanlikemanner · 07/04/2019 22:26

:)

“But mainly, I object to non-LGBTQ-identifying people having a pop at how we should run Pride. That's our baby, not yours. You have the rest of the year.

Maybe tell Susie?”

Rofl

PencilsInSpace · 07/04/2019 22:29

Brilliant post FloralBunting.

I'm bisexual but have never really laid claim to any discrimination resulting from that specifically. What discrimination I have faced has happened when I've been in a relationship with a woman and I'd say it was lesbophobia not biphobia. The people who shat on me didn't care if I was bisexual or lesbian, they just cared that I was in a relationship with a woman and decided to make my life hard because of that.

So I think maybe bisexuals keep quiet because we're aware that we always have the option of melting back into straight society whereas lesbians don't have that choice.

Bisexuals have always faced some opposition from both political lesbians and 'gold star' born-this-way lesbians for different reasons. These are small spats and I don't think we have time for them right now.

There are new direct threats to bisexuals - we are now expected to be 'pansexual' and accept all possible configurations of biology, identity and presentation. We can't just like men and women.

We need to stand up for our own rights and in doing so we'll also make it easier for lesbians to stand up for their rights, because sexual orientation is a protected characteristic in the equality act and it's defined as being sexually orientated towards people of the same sex. the opposite sex or either sex.

FerdinandAndHisMassiveBalls · 08/04/2019 00:03

You still haven't answered sky.

Im non binary why don't I get a say about Pride?

OccasionalKite · 08/04/2019 00:21

And I'm newly genderfree and so very happy that my lifelong status finally has a name!

I would love to join the Pride march with other genderfree women! But alas, I am in a distant part of UK, and have work etc so this Pride march is not feasible for me. But in future - yes, count me in.

FerdinandAndHisMassiveBalls · 08/04/2019 00:31

Gender critical feminist believe so strongly that they are agender that they can't even consider the possibility that anyone has a cis gender identity.

Which makes us basically super non binary. Like gold star trans.

R0wantrees · 08/04/2019 00:44

important current thread with links to four Times articles highlighting serious Safeguarding & Duty of Care issues concerning the treatment of children questioning their gender identity. The roles played by GIDS Tavistock, Mermaids, GIRES & Gendered Intelligence are criticised by medical professionals:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3553935-Times-article-calls-to-end-transgender-experiment-on-children

OccasionalKite · 08/04/2019 00:45

Hmm. I'd argue about "agender", as applied to me.

I always had a specific gender applied to me, all my life, what with me being born female. And I was never treated as agender - purely because I had a female body.

Anyway.

Me inside - yes, genderfree, describes where I always was, and where I am and where I want to be, now!

FerdinandAndHisMassiveBalls · 08/04/2019 00:48

always had a specific gender applied to me, all my life, what with me being born female. And I was never treated as agender - purely because I had a female body

True but that applies to everyone all non binary people!

OccasionalKite · 08/04/2019 01:00

Which is why we should continue segregating certain aspects of life, involving safety, dignity, fairness for women and girls, by good old sex, the type of body one is born with.

OccasionalKite · 08/04/2019 01:04

The fact that have a thing about Handel and Mozart should not affect any decisions on any future medical treatment I may need.

flowerbombVR · 08/04/2019 01:20

OH my days.... Male Egos..... That is all.

flowerbombVR · 08/04/2019 01:25

I stand corrected. Female Egos also.
It's scary to think where this will end.
Sad times...

2BthatUnnoticed · 08/04/2019 06:31

For anyone in London - who might be interested - something is being organised (see the other place), whether it is joining the march, or an event held elsewhere.

(For anyone not on twitter, you can browse freely without having to join)

RedToothBrush · 08/04/2019 06:58

Dear Mermaids

Following the revelation in today's Times from clinicians who fear that homophobic parents may be pushing their children to be trans instead, can you tell me what steps you take to ensure children are not being unduly pressured by parents into being trans rather than being gay, and whether you have a full and open discussion of these issues.

Yours expectantly

RED

Dear Pride

Please can you tell me why, following the revelations in todays Times, lesbians who have been trying to raise concerns about transition being used as gay conversion therapy by some parents have been framed as pushing 'hate'.

Also can you shed light onto what steps you have taken to ensure that there is aquedate transparency at Mermaids to ensure they are not actively supporting or otherwise turning a blind eye to homophobic parents who may be pressuring children into gay conversion therapy given that particular concerns have been raised about the charity's approach to supporting children without question.

Yours concernedly

RED

Dear Stonewall

Please can you let me know what steps and support you have provided to Mermaids to help tackle homophobic parents who may be wrongly pressuring children to be trans rather than gay.

Do you encourage Mermaids to support the discussion of the possibility of being gay and how that may not be as 'cool' as the image of being trans and might be confusing to some young people?

Please can you tell me whether you have done any research into homophobia within the trans community?

Please can you tell me how your definition of lesbian is not homophobic on nature as it is based on gender identity rather than sex. How is that consistent with the following statement? :

Recognized types of homophobia include institutionalized homophobia, e.g. religious homophobia and state-sponsored homophobia, and internalized homophobia, experienced by people who have same-sex attractions, regardless of how they identify.

Yours Really Waiting on Hearing The Answers to This

RED

Dear The Times

Thank Fuck

Cheers

RED

They've got a survey on the Pride London home page where you can tell them your thoughts about how to make Pride better. Look for the link below the video of Pride 2018 which airbrushes out all images of Get The L Out.

Most of the survey is a load of sponsor brand awareness bollocks but there are a couple of free text boxes.

This though ...

Trousering · 10/04/2019 22:53

That screen shot is hilarious. What use is the information from that to anyone? It's just funny.

2BthatUnnoticed · 11/04/2019 00:52

Agree about the screen shot. Nine options for “gender identity”... but you cannot be “biologically female but gender free.” I guess you select “other”and type it in.

Erasure.

Thingybob · 11/04/2019 01:14

Why is intersex one of the options for 'gender identity'?

Being intersex means being born with a disorder of sex (or reproductive) development, it's not a bloody identity!

Trousering · 11/04/2019 02:32

Females with no gender identity have been othered by Pride in London.
Forced identification.
