Apparently telling women to 'die in a grease fire' is hate speech. Who knew?

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Holy mother of god! Thank you for that link! I am absolutely terrified watching this. I had no idea about these events at Evergreen.

jay55 · 30/03/2019 07:10

It's interesting that the grease fire tweet was dealt with so quickly (if temporarily), as it took over a week to get a reply on the tweet I'd reported about Sharron Davies. Did they look at all the complaints they were ignoring when so many came in for the fire one?

SophoclesTheFox · 30/03/2019 07:12

Am genuinely torn as to whether I favour McKinnon being twitter banned or not.

Pro: removal of a small fraction of woman hating from Twitter
Putting McKinnon back into the box of obscurity whence McKinnon came
Removes McKinnons ability to post homophobic nonsense about lesbians needing to get used to penis
Sends message about unacceptability of posting like McKinnon does
Sends message that Twitter is not woke beyond redemption

Con: McKinnon is hands-down the finest Sherpa currently working on mount peak-TRA. We would be losing a fine foot soldier.
I’m not a fan of banning people from having thoughts, even when those thoughts are hateful
Better to keep dodgy people in plain view where you can see what they’re up to
McKinnon will continue to over reach and that really helps shed light on the misogyny at the heart of the cause
I can’t lie: the utter batshittery is entertaining.

SophoclesTheFox · 30/03/2019 07:15

though I misread it as including ‘Tiny Tim’ as an insult at first

So did I Grin took me a couple of re-reads. Quite like it as an insult though: you’re such a Tiny Tim!

HandsOffMyRights · 30/03/2019 07:43

So you don't do the 'hover pee' RM? Why not?

They really are showing quite spectacularly just how psychotic they are and exactly why women don’t want them and others like them anywhere near us. It was such a good thing they got banned from Twitter because now they are showing everyone exactly who they are. This couldn’t have gone better than if we planned it. They really are losing it, aren’t they? I look at all their madness and worry they’re just not stable at all. I do hope they can get the help they need, it’s not healthy to obsess like they are. How do they think women can control their body? Nature has done that, just like nature had given me a uterus that has just given me a second period inside 3 weeks. There are just some things we cannot control, and I understand many many males have a hard time not being able to control everything and everyone, but they really ought not to blame women for the cards nature has dealt them. I can’t control who is male and female, nobody can, not even surgeons. When I look at that incessant crazed tweeting, I do worry about people like them being given access to women and girls when they’re vulnerable. They are so angry and out of control.

I do hope people report their harassment of Glinner.

A third rate cyclist

I'd reword that to,
"Failed male cyclist"

trumpdump · 30/03/2019 08:22

Lisa Riley is a disgrace. It's fine that she's not gender critical, but to support threats of violence towards women is unacceptable. Angry

larrygrylls · 30/03/2019 08:32

Does show the difference in Twitter’s attitude to ‘Jo/e Blogs’ and someone with PR and legal muscle.

Simple answer is to not Tweet or follow Twitter.

kesstrel · 30/03/2019 08:34

The fact that Linda Riley is happy to promote both Jack the Ripper and someone wishing non-compliant women to die in a grease fire is quite disturbing, given her position.

LizzieSiddal · 30/03/2019 08:36

I hope RM has been reported again for the threats they posted last night. “Run scared, dear transphobes”

lottiebel123 · 30/03/2019 08:36

Linda Riley tweeted last night in response to the McKinnon banning, to say that she knew people at Twitter and would speak to them. She then responded with Yay and lots of support for McKinnon when she was reinstated on Twitter.
Give someone enough time and they eventually reveal who they are.
Even TRAs, except the most ridiculous ones, avoid McKinnon because they can see exactly the sort of person they're dealing with. The fact that Riley is happy to support such a person defies belief.

LizzieSiddal · 30/03/2019 08:36

Linda Riley is an utter disgrace.

NameChangeForTheNewYear · 30/03/2019 09:10

Rach, love, we're not gonna call you "she" because biology. It's not transphobia, it's material reality.

Notevenmyrealname · 30/03/2019 09:14

So trite and humble. Realising that what they said was unacceptable.

Not really, just unhinged.

They will get what they deserve. People usually do. If you stop around being a bossy git the only people who are nice to your face are scared of you - and they aren’t forever. Well the workplace is like that - then you have a massive fall because no one have taken you aside and said ‘look you are being a complete arse’.

Who/what is kinda Riley?

Artesia · 30/03/2019 09:27

Just looked through the twitter responses to the image Notevenmyrealname posted above. It’s terrifying how people are jumping on the charming “die in a grease fire” bandwagon. I am not on twitter but should this be reported? Literal violence and all that...

Yup.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 30/03/2019 09:32

I’ve worked long enough to see people get their comeuppance. Sometimes it’s been 20 years and I’m not one to craw but am willing to make exceptions for people who caruse so much harm.

LadyLazarus40 · 30/03/2019 09:32

Narcissism is the pursuit of gratification from vanity or egotistic admiration of one's idealised self image and attributes. It is characterised by grandiosity, pride, egotism, and a lack of empathy.

Psychiatrists Hotchkiss and James F. Masterson identified what they called the seven deadly sins of narcissism:

Shamelessness: Narcissists are often proudly and openly shameless; they are not bound by the needs and wishes of others. Narcissists hate shame and consider it "toxic" as shame implies they are not perfect and need to change. Narcissists prefer guilt over shame, as guilt allows them to dissociate their actions from themselves - it's only their actions that are wrong, while they themselves remain perfect.
Magical thinking Narcissists see themselves as perfect, using distortion and illusion known as magical thinking. They also use projection to "dump" shame onto others.
Arrogance A narcissist who is feeling deflated may "re-inflate" their sense of self-importance by diminishing, debasing, or degrading somebody else.
Envy A narcissist may secure a sense of superiority in the face of another person's ability by using contempt to minimise the other person or their achievements.
Entitlement Narcissists hold unreasonable expectations of particularly favourable treatment and automatic compliance because they consider themselves special. Failure to comply is considered an attack on their superiority, and the perpetrator is considered an "awkward" or "difficult" person. Defiance of their will is a narcissistic injury that can trigger narcissistic rage.
Exploitation Can take many forms but always involves the exploitation of others without regard for their feelings or interests. Often the other person is in a subservient position where resistance would be difficult or even impossible. Sometimes the subservience is not so much real as assumed. This exploitation may result in many brief, short-lived relationships.
Bad boundaries Narcissists do not recognise that they have boundaries and that others are separate and are not extensions of themselves. Others either exist to meet their needs or may as well not exist at all. Those who provide narcissistic supply to the narcissist are treated as if they are part of the narcissist and are expected to live up to those expectations. In the mind of a narcissist, there is no boundary between self and other.
