Apparently telling women to 'die in a grease fire' is hate speech. Who knew?

Have a great weekend everyone!!

I need that GIF of Jennifer Lawrence spitting out her coffee as she laughs.

Datun · 05/04/2019 07:22

Strewth. Two male born individuals arguing over exactly to what extent they can game the system in order to fuck women over.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/04/2019 07:34

Yes. While on the one hand at least that dispute highlights the complete unreasonableness of RM, the danger is that sporting bodies may view Bearden's line as an acceptable compromise. But there shouldn't be an assumption that any sort of compromise from sports being segregated by sex is appropriate acceptable to women. There is no rational basis whatever for segregating sports by 'gender identity'.

Here is the ticket information for Manchester, just so that we can go and "cheer" McKinnon on.

I looked at last year's events, and the men's events are pretty much fully subscribed and the cyclists are of a very high quality indeed, whereas the women's events are not, hence the reason why McKinnon was able to win. If the great Australian rider, Anna Meares came out of retirement then McKinnon wouldn't stand a chance.
If McKinnon competed in the men's event they wouldn't get a look in. Last year Arnoud Duble from France won the men's sprint, and he still holds a French 500m track record which he set back in 2001.

Personally find so much of the track and pro cycling world to be insanely macho. And the 'amateur' guys you see on public roads dressed in their Team Sky Sports gear are often arrogant beyond tolerance. It's got to the point where I feel an almost instant antipathy when I see any of them.

TowelNumber42 · 05/04/2019 10:15

I know a few elite cyclists. They all have terrifyingly low body fat. Bone, muscle, sinew. When I see pictures of RMK, I don't see the same. It always strikes me as odd.

"They all have terrifyingly low body fat. Bone, muscle, sinew"

I wish I could turn the clock back to when I was racing, I felt so fit, so good. In the Summer I used to have a couple of weeks off and go cycling every day, doing between 70 and 100 miles each time.
What we have to remember about RMK, is that they came to cycling quite late, started off riding on the road and only changed to the track about 18 months ago. RMK according to their own speel has put on a lot of weight for the track.

UnPocoLoco2 · 05/04/2019 15:27

Who is Rachel McKinnon?

DodoPatrol · 05/04/2019 15:36

A fairly typical MAMIL who identifies as a woman and sometimes beats women in cycle races.

DodoPatrol · 05/04/2019 15:37

Has a doctorate in 'why facts aren't necessary' (I may be slightly misremembering the title).

ErrolTheDragon · 05/04/2019 15:59

'Reasonable Assertions: On Norms of Assertion and Why You Don't Need to Know What You're Talking About'

uwspace.uwaterloo.ca/handle/10012/6619

On the basis of this, RM has been known to tweet 'I am a Doctor'.

I don't know anyone with a PhD and an ounce of integrity (unless they're also a medic) who would say 'I am a Doctor'. 'I've got a doctorate' or 'I've got a PhD' is the norm (if it's actually relevant). And I know a lot of people with PhDs.

I had to google MAMIL

Lol

nauticant · 05/04/2019 16:36

I posted that according to the facts but suppose it'll be deleted. Here's a version that's more compliant with current MN moderation:

McKinnon is someone who wishes that their enemies (gender critical women although McKinnon uses different terminology) "die in a grease fire".

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 05/04/2019 16:47

I have a question about twitter.

You know when you report a tweet and they send you a note to say that you have reported someone and that tells you who you reported? Why is it that when I get an 'update on your report' message to say that someone has had a ban/slap on the wrist - it's not the account I complained about?

I was seeing reports on accounts that I haven't come across/hadn't read or complained about. Are they name changing or something?

andyoldlabour · 06/04/2019 12:12

"I had to google MAMIL

Lol"

LoL, yes, about as funny as the acronym - TERF
Cyclists of all ages and both sexes wear lycra clothing, not because they look flash in it, but because it is incredibly comfortable and efficient.
MAMIL is an insult aimed at cyclists, usually by the anti cycling media, purely because they are trying to keep fit or train because they still compete.

GCAcademic · 06/04/2019 12:19

LoL, yes, about as funny as the acronym - TERF

LOL, yes, because the term MAMIL is often accompanied by threats of violence, death and rape.

What was it about men being frightened that women will laugh at them, while women are afraid men will kill them?

GCAcademic

They are both insulting terms, and neither implies killing people.

birdsdestiny · 06/04/2019 12:47

Kill all terfs or I want to punch a terf are slogans on t shirts, it is a word used to threaten and frighten women. Some organisations refuse to allow ' terfs' to join them. I forget which batshit crazy students union announced that this week. None of those things apply to cyclists in lycra.

HorsewithnoDoubt · 06/04/2019 12:49

Oops, seem to have hit a nerve!

Is it okay to laugh at NIMBY or DINKs?

They too come without the death-threats.

Datun · 06/04/2019 12:50

MAMIL is teasing and piss taking.

TERF is designed to dehumanise so you can threaten.

hipsterfun · 06/04/2019 13:35

I think that’s because Rachel is a lady?

DodoPatrol · 06/04/2019 13:43

Sorry if the MAMIL phrase offends, Andy. DD’s friends use it of their dads when they go off in luminous packs to hunt down the local ales at the weekend.

TowelNumber42 · 06/04/2019 13:48

hipster maybe, though when I see a picture of RMK, feminine physique isn't my first impression.

Maybe RMK doesn't have to worry about marginal gains because RMK has a huge natural advantage over the other competitors.
