Holy fuck! That can't be real! Not that I don't believe Harry - I do - I'm just shocked and bewildered that it's happened

Insertwitticismhere · 26/03/2019 14:41

Even the flying lawyer thinks the police were out of line - a boundary has not so much been crossed as utterly trampled over!

thatdamnwoman · 26/03/2019 14:46

There's an Inspector Matthew Wilson of Hull Police mentioned here:

"There's an Inspector Matthew Wilson of Hull Police mentioned here: "

Let's hope there are two or more Inspectors named Wilson .. because the one who called Harry today is an ignoramus !

ClingFilmApplications · 26/03/2019 15:02

I have a tweet on that thread from three hours ago - the stats say it has been seen by eleven thousand people(!!) so this is quite likely to get the attention of mainstream media.

JackyHolyoake · 26/03/2019 15:02

And, Inspector Wilson asks: "But why would you tweet your views when it upsets the trans community?"

Maybe this says more about Wilson?

Is Wilson incapable of seeing the impact on the half of the human race that is the female sex?

Is Wilson so blind to the population that is the female sex?

thatdamnwoman · 26/03/2019 15:05

He's the only one I can find by googling. I'm afraid my inner Miss Marple gets busy when things like this happen.

Who knows, it may get James Kirkup or Rod Liddle or Janice Turner started on a bit of old-fashioned investigative journalism.

ToeToToe · 26/03/2019 15:13

I can't even express how disturbing it is that Humberside Police are enforcing a political ideology to citizens.

Dangerous is the word that keeps coming to mind - the police are supposed to be apolitical and police by consent.

thatdamnwoman · 26/03/2019 15:15

Please feel free to Tweet the link to Inspector Matthew Wilson of Hull Police. If it wasn't him then perhaps he can identify which Inspector Wilson it was.

The Julia Long situation, now this. Who is telling the police that it's okay to act like this? Seriously, it needs to be traced back to source. Who is training police officers to think and behave like this? What do City of London, Hull/ Humberside and West Yorkshire police have in common?

MeAgainAgain · 26/03/2019 15:24

A few people have said what about things being said to /about women that are upsetting, threatening etc

Sex is not on the hate crime list. You can say whatever you like to women.

Ereshkigal · 26/03/2019 15:38

I looked at the links to trans organisations when this first happened and it seems Humberside police has had quite a lot of training and engagement with a local trans organisation (as did the local prison) which appears to no longer be in operation.

ClingFilmApplications · 26/03/2019 15:42

Humber side police have confirmed the story is true: https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/news/hull-east-yorkshire-news/man-who-liked-offensive-transgender-2687070

The Charity in Humberside that this police officer received an MBE for his work with is called Gender Shift.

Apparently 300 police officers were trained by them in how to deal with a "sex change" way back in 2008 as one of their officers had transitioned.

They appear to be a well established local charity.

Bluestitch · 26/03/2019 15:44

Just read that, the police statement is shocking, can they really not see how bad it looks!

Janie143 · 26/03/2019 15:45

Article 19.

Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers. From Universal Declaration of Human Rights

iwantatattoo · 26/03/2019 15:47

Will the police begin visiting all the people who post negative comments about disability on social media?
A common one is, 'ADHD doesn't exist - it's just bad parenting, bratty kids' etc.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 26/03/2019 15:47

"There was never any suggestion he shouldn’t engage in politics or debate around the subject in question, he was just asked why he would want to, knowing it would cause distress and upset to others in society."

I can't believe the police said that Shock

Ereshkigal · 26/03/2019 15:47

Police Statement today to Hull DM:

"There was never any suggestion he shouldn’t engage in politics or debate around the subject in question, he was just asked why he would want to, knowing it would cause distress and upset to others in society.

Er, surely that is a suggestion that you think he shouldn't?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 26/03/2019 15:48

I really hope some significant media picks up on that statement and how dangerous it is.

Ereshkigal · 26/03/2019 15:50

As many pp have said, what about women's "distress and upset" caused by people in power taking this misogynistic ideology seriously and prioritising it over our rights?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 26/03/2019 15:53

No, it's not wrong to think like that. But do you realise thinking these thoughts is wrong, why would you think them?

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 26/03/2019 15:55

Does anyone in the Trans Community care that they are upsetting women?

Thingybob · 26/03/2019 15:57

Just seen that in the latest report from HullDM they have quoted the rhyme that identified as a limerick. Gosh they need a phone call ASAP.

MNSDKHheroines · 26/03/2019 16:03

I'm amazed the Hull Daily Mail has printed the original limerick in its article. Not just the nationals feeling brave!
