And, as she says in the thread:

"Meanwhile a group of people have terrified and harassed my family. Doxed my children, made violent and sexual threats, signed me up to porn accounts, did the same to my husband, threatened to visit here. And tumbleweed..."

I think Caro's Catholicism is fine to mention - religion is a protected characteristic and as the recent Christian bakery case showed, you can't force others to express a belief they do not hold, which is exactly what SG and TRAs want to do.

Plus she's a journalist writing for Catholic publications, you can't really hide it so best to be upfront.

LangCleg · 20/03/2019 09:01

Derbyshire will do her special sad face

Don't forget the Special Head Tilt!

I wonder if there will also be the Special Sad Music?

Will Vic pat a Special Sad Knee?

AbsintheFriends · 20/03/2019 09:03

Even if Susie has dropped it, can Caroline still find out what the tweets were?

If she can't, that takes the Orwellian thought-policing to a whole new level of sinister.
Police: You said a Wrong Thing and must be punished
Woman: What did I say?
Police: We can't reveal that. But don't do it again.

You can easily see how short a step it is to that Vox scenario where women end up not being able to say very much at all.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 20/03/2019 09:04

So mum can refer to her he child’s sex at birth but anyone else can’t.

She thinks she ‘owns’ her child. That kid should run fast and run far. This isn’t healthy.

It was Willoughby talking on about how hurtful it is to be "misgendered" when people have taken 'such a long time to transition and all the distress and pain they have been through' [sob, sob].

The transwidows threads here on Mumsnet tells us all we need to know about these men.

Unihorn · 20/03/2019 09:05

Pleased to say my husband and 60 year old father watched GMB with me this morning and commented how ridiculous the whole situation was all the way through. Definitely reaching wider audiences now.

I've mentioned it before, but this isn't Orwellian in character, much as this nonsense do often is - that exchange is pure Kafka, which is possibly more scary, actually.

Iused2BanOptimist · 20/03/2019 09:07

TheCountess it is also very sinister that the tweets and the complaint all happened in early October and the police have been doing what exactly in the five months since? Ferreting away seeking more evidence, stalking Caro's twitter and journalistic output? Or did they sit on it for a while and then decide to have a go after Miranda's case was thrown out in the belief that they might have a better chance pursuing someone who isn't trans sexual?

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 20/03/2019 09:07

JackyHolyoake

Oh, India ‘ I am a real woman’ Willoughby but also, transwomen shouldn’t be in women’s sports despite being real women, according to India’s own beliefs. That person that has a fear of drag queens. I really strongly dislike that person.

Iused2BanOptimist · 20/03/2019 09:09

Slight derail but are unsolicited dick pics not deemed indecent and offensive? Where are all the men being prosecuted for this crime?

‘(a)sends by means of a public electronic communications network a message or other matter that is grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character; or (b)causes any such message or matter to be so sent."

Melroses · 20/03/2019 09:10

The problem SG (and the TRAs in general) have is that their whole argument is built on sand. There is nothing they can actually really say that makes any sense and that people will really believe.

The Wise Man builds his house upon the rock - build your faith on firm foundations! - not the delusions of narcissistic AGP men.

(All that Sunday School was not wasted on me after all Grin)

If society actually accepted their insane, science-denying, quasi-religious ideology as fact, they wouldn't need to manipulate the law to impose belief in it.

Needmoresleep · 20/03/2019 09:16

James Kirkup's article is great.

The facts. A four year says they are a girl. The mother takes the the child to the US for drugs aged 12 and then to Thailand at 16. Essentially searching the world to find places that will treat children in this way, thus making her child the youngest person ever to undergo this treatment. Then laughs at the technical problems involved in penis inversion with a pre-pubescent penis.

I know two people who have teenagers who claim to be trans. Both are desperately keen that their children wait as long as possible (ideally never) before going down a life altering medical route.

I cannot be the only one who feels there is something quite off here.

hackmum · 20/03/2019 09:20

Captain - I was about to say exactly the same thing! It's bloody terrifying.

R0wantrees · 20/03/2019 09:28

July 2018 Victoria Derbyshire show had a whole program supporting Mermaids ideology, approach, beliefs etc.
It demonstrated clear bias.

From the BBC article about the show www.bbc.com/news/uk-44661079

"So far, her mum, Jen, says, it's been about helping her fit in and dealing with the odd nasty comment from one classmate, who said she would never be a "proper" woman.

"I have to do everything I can as a mother to protect my child - to talk to her so she knows how to deal with those comments - but also to talk to the other child's parents so they can help their child understand," she explains.

"I didn't want that child punishing, I think it's more about them being talked to and helped understand the situation because what he was saying was wrong. She can be a woman and develop as a woman and grow up as a lady if that's what she wants to do."

Lily herself said her friends stood up for her, but she feels "not good, upset," when comments like that are made.

Both girls recently spent the weekend at a camp for trans children and their families, run by the Mermaids charity.

It was attended by around 30 children between the ages of six and 19, who spend time socialising or in workshops on bullying, self-esteem or how to report hate crimes.

The charity keeps the location secret - 17 times in the past six months its founder, Suzie Green, has reported abusive online messages to the police. Eight cases in the past year have been investigated as suspected hate crimes.

"We were being called paedophiles, we were being accused of being child abusers," she says. "In fact they even did a mock-up of a van with puppies and sweets on the side saying that Mermaids are trawling infant schools trying to pick up children to make them trans. It is ridiculous."

More than half young trans people say they have been the victim of hate crime in the last year, according to research from the Stonewall charity."

Susie Green describes reporting 17 messages to the Police and 8 being investingated as possible hate crimes, this means 9 were dismissed. Police investigating an allegation does not demonstrate that a crime has been committed. Police investigate, there is then a decision to charge, a decision to prosecute and finally an allegation has to be 'proven' in in a court of law.

Susie Green authorised the US Dr to give her child cross sex hormones as well as puberty blockers.

The US Dr laughs (fondly?) about how he added in extra hormones to ensure that Susie Green's child did not fulfil his height potential as this would be more noticeably tall for someone intending to identify as a woman.

It was (I think) in the documentary about Jackie Green taking part in beauty pageants.

Ah, the sweet innocence of children, eh?

Let's just groom them to weaponise the police to silence dissent.

Nothing utterly horrifying about that at all, no.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 20/03/2019 09:42

I've never heard Jackie's account of being upset by misgendering.

Is it possible to complain about something on someone else's behalf when the other person is a grown up and (presumably) able to make their own judgement on issues?

RedToothBrush · 20/03/2019 09:45

I do not think Susie should be allowed to just drop it without due course.

Caroline has in effect suffered harassment if that's the case, and should persue that. Especially if she can not even find out what she apparently has done wrong. She has also arguably had reputational damage by the attempt.

Also Susie gets to walk away with her victim hood not only preserved but also enhanced. She gets to go, boo hoo all the media are transphobic. And plays to her own crowd as some sort of hero. (Think of this as a cult and this looks very sinister indeed).

This needs to play out and show that there was never a case to answer and accusations like this are, in themselves, attempts to stop public debate - even if they backfire with Barbara's singing.

The CPS and police need to be given a kick up the arse and told to prioritise cases and not be sucked into the political games of Susie Green and Co.

I'm sorry, but just dropping the complaint isn't good and isn't a good outcome. Its still a political act and a still has an effect which can be spun for political ends. No one should be able to use the police and CPS in this manner without consequences.

LangCleg · 20/03/2019 09:48

Agree. It will be "I had to drop it due to bullying and intimidation".

GirlDownUnder · 20/03/2019 09:48

The comments on Twitter re Susie Green is going to be discussing her complaint and my ‘distressing spiteful transphobia’ on @vicderbyshire* are not at all positive for Susie or @vicderbyshire*

Also Steph H seems to think Mumsnet and Carro managed to get the case discontinued if I’m reading this tweet right!?

Carowiththegoodhair · 20/03/2019 09:49

To be clear. Aside from wanting to do an exclusive, I cannot appear on the media discussing something under police investigation when I do not know what I have done other than “misgender”. That’s all I know.

Susie Green ought not to be disclosing what the police will not tell me. I do not know if this has been dropped and it could prejudice the investigation.

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 20/03/2019 09:49

In the July 2018 Victoria Derbyshire program a Mermaids 'workshop' for parents/adults about hate crimes featured. It was led by a police officer who was transgender.

my post from thread:

"From Victoria Derbyshire first segment,
Anna Robinson 'one of the first trans police officer in UK' in a workshop on Hate Crime for parents at Mermaids camp:

(after a show of hands of who has been or knows someone subjected to Hate Crime)
AR "So obviously Hate Crime has had an impact on the room, upon everyone here'

  • VD "Is Hate Crime towards trans chldren and adults on the rise?"
AR "Absolutely we have seen like an epidemic almost of Hate Crime being reported.. more and more people reporting, more and more having the courage to report. This is their daily life and they are being targetted just for living their life"
