Australian shooter Brenton Tarrant. Up to 27 dead. He broadcast it live on Facebook and the video is on YouTube. Looks much like a shoot em up video game.

He published his opinions online prior to the attack. He thinks Brexit is a good thing. you can see links to it all in Twitter. Some of the media are broadcasting his video which is bound to cause controversy.

I also hope that people call it what it is- terrorism. An act of terrorism by a terrorist. Not a ‘shooter’. Normally I would say ‘don’t politicise things when someone has died’ but language matters. Especially when people have died BECAUSE of someone’s political views.

Waking up to this dreadful news and listening out for my 15 year old DS to wake up so I can warn him NOT to watch the horrific footage. Sick, sick world. I have just seen a still of the gunman’s camera (I refuse to use his name) and it just looks like a grab from a classic shoot ‘em up Call of Duty type video but it’s real and sickening (I haven’t watched any) I hope the footage is pulled but I guess it won’t be. Sympathies to the dead, injured and grieving in New Zealand and the Muslim Community.

Terrorism. No other word for it. A lot of kids will engage with this story because of the mention of PewdiePie the biggest YouTuber of the moment. They’ll see and read stuff. Wonder if that was a conscious thing by the terrorists - to make sure the terror had the furthest reach possible?

I have to say, NZ’s gun laws are shockingly lax. My dad had two rifles despite us reporting him for DV. It’s crazy they had semi automatics.
