It does. Didn’t mean yourself. There is a lot of focus by some pp on here on things that divert the attention. Which quite trivialises the real issue here.
Is that directed at myself? As an indigenous New Zealander who has tried for my entire life to get other kiwis talking about our issues with racism and violence, I absolutely reserve the right to respond to mistruths about my country that are spread by racism, and to discuss why these things happen. Events like this are horrific and they open a lot of wounds for people like myself. That is not trivial. I’ve lost people to violence too.
It may be the goal to pit people against each other, but to try and limit this conversation and imply an indigenous person is derailing, is incredibly rude. I’m not sure how many of you are kiwi, but I would hope other kiwis understand why we need to have these discussions. My thoughts are always with victims, but for those of us who have been victims of racism for a long time, I think it’s ok to touch in it in a thread that was discussing gun laws and the whys and how’s.
