Stealth sorry, didn't tag you but my last post was an attempt to do so? I could be wrong, though. Will repost here:

I think that a couple of people read LC's 'WTF' as agreement that excluding TIMs from women's sport is the same as excluding black women, and thus A Bad Thing.

Whereas everyone else is reading it as 'how the fuck can you compare these two completely different things, you racist prick'.

Excellent post, Toxteth.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 11/03/2019 12:13

I hardly ever use Twitter but have just gone on to look at Rachel McKinnon. Apparently I have been blocked from following her or looking at her Twitter feeds. I have no idea why given that I've never mentioned her on Twitter or had any dealings with her. Confused

StealthPolarBear · 11/03/2019 12:16

But how can a wtf be agreement? Surely it means what the hell is this madness?
Or the madness is excluding black women?
I'm losing the plot

PeeGreen · 11/03/2019 12:17

That interview

(from 1:15)

Redshoeblueshoe · 11/03/2019 12:18

Excellent post Toxteth

DitzyPrints · 11/03/2019 12:18

Unless I’m being incredibly think he response was ‘what the hell is this madness’ wtf was my response to this claim too I don’t see what was wrong with his response?!

She gets ripped to shreds. 'Whitesplaining'

StealthPolarBear · 11/03/2019 12:21

Ahhhh thank you river. That does make sense. So his wtf was to the situation (that someone else was also wtfing about)

LizzieSiddal · 11/03/2019 12:21

I can’t believe some of the initial responses. I hope some posters go back and ask for their messages to be deleted.

Anyway back to Linford, WTF just about sums RM’s rascism and misogyny.

Linford Christie's reaction
RiverTam · 11/03/2019 12:23

Stealth well, I actually think his WTF was to RM's racism. I very much doubt LC thinks men should compete in women's sports. But perhaps some people so expect men to be feeble about this (I think Pinsent was pretty mealy-mouthed) that that's their first reaction.

FeministCat · 11/03/2019 12:23

Well, reading this thread was a little mind bending. I ought to have just stopped at Linford Christie’s response of WTF. Since I generally have the same reactions to RMcKs tweets (not on Twitter, but see enough screenshots) it was pretty apparent to me the “WTF” was a “WTF is this racist misogynist asshole on about and why does anyone give him the time of day”.

No, McKinnon. People did not think it was “unfair” for Jesse Owens to compete in the Olympics.

The Nazi government wanted to ban any black or Jewish athletes from the Olympics. Had nothing to do with them thinking it was “unfair”, they thought they were the “superior race” after all. If had to do with them, oh, you know, being racist and the original damn Nazis who murdered millions in the name of their “superior race”.

The US said f that, and if you won’t welcome our athletes - including our black and Jewish ones - we will boycott your Olympics. The US definitely still obviously had and had many issues with racism but they did stand up for their athletes (well, except their Jewish ones ultimately when it got to it but Jesse Owens did compete and did come home with four gold medals).

How can McKinnon even justify using the example of the Nazis - you know, those who murdered millions who they saw as racially, ethnically, intellectually, socially etc inferior - as an example of people thinking it was “unfair” for people of colour to compete in sport?

Copying the words of LC: WTF?

BettyDuMonde · 11/03/2019 12:50

Black musicians and dancers were refused entry to Germany during that same time period (see Norma Miller’s ‘Queen of Swings’ descriptions of the experience) and Jazz music wasn’t even allowed on German radio. It wasn’t ‘unfairness’ that caused the prohibition, it was racism.
No one thinks trans athletes should be excluded from sport due to being trans, we just don’t think that being trans overrides one’s birth sex.

Mankyfoot · 11/03/2019 12:54

I'm also surprised that anyone could take his WTF as anything but incredulity at the batshit ideas of RM. he's saying what most people are thinking.

OP posts:
FaithFrank · 11/03/2019 12:55

So McKinnon is ignorant about history as well as racist.

WTF indeed

StealthPolarBear · 11/03/2019 12:55

Most people are also thinking that necklace is bloody awful

EcclesThePeacock · 11/03/2019 13:02

So McKinnon is ignorant about history as well as racist.

McKinnon's only clear expertise is in making assertions without knowing what you're talking about.

ToxtethOGradysBogey · 11/03/2019 13:03

Thank you to those kind comments about my post. Thank you PeeGreen for posting the link. That interview is even worse than I remember.

I am utterly sickened by the MRA led trans movement co-opting the struggles of women and people (past and present) who have suffered daily indignities, prejudices, violence and sometimes death because of their female sex and/or race in order to further their own warped ends. I wonder, if there was a real life Gilead, how many men who identify as women would continue to do so and face the consequences. Lesbians were hung in Gilead. Or would they just decide to be men again? Hell, we don't even have to go into the make believe world. I wonder how many would be willing to sit in a menstruation hut in Nepal whilst they are having one of their "periods". Of be a girl under the Boko Haram regime? Or hell, let's go closer to home, stand with their biological female sisters in a gymnastics ring and put up with the indignity of having your regulation, skimpy, fanny revealing costume taped to your arse (despite many years of appeals to be able to wear shorts or at least a pair of knickers) rather than having the rules bent for you.

BTW, Linford Christie was a bit of a arse in many ways, but he knows sport, he has trained female athletes, he is a contemporary of Kelly Holmes and Sharron Davis's ex, Derek Redmond, there is zero chance he agrees with McKinnon.

GerryblewuptheER · 11/03/2019 13:03

So McKinnon is ignorant about history as well as racist

They are not the only ones who are outright racist. Remember Muslim women need re-education to accept penises in their changing rooms.

I cannot believe the audacity that have to one minute telling women of various religious beliefs ( many of which will be woken of colour) they are transphobes and the next they suddenly think they can use them to make their point about segregation.

Well

That was a most confusing interlude

Allergictoironing · 11/03/2019 13:16

Maybe the USA did say that, but I could note that Hitler did acknowledge Jesse Owen's win but his own President at the time, FDR, refused to invite him to the White House along with the other Olympic medal winners.
