Leading UK gym chain David Lloyd does not permit trans people to use changing rooms in line with the gender they identify with, unless they can produce a gender recognition certificate.

In a HuffPost UK analysis of several national gym chains and their policies on changing rooms – including Nuffield Health, PureGym, Everyone Active, EasyGym, The Gym Group and Virgin Active – David Lloyd was the only one to require this documentation from a trans person wishing to use the changing room for their identified gender.

I do visit a (not DL ) gym quiet late a night, the changing rooms are often empty,

I've no idea how to handle the situation if there's a penis person in there with me, how do I know if they are a benign TW or a voyeuristic man trying it on. This would make me consider swapping to DL when my contract is up.

They are therefore pretty meaningless and I think the whole things should be repealed and done away with

Agreed.

ToeToToe · 11/03/2019 18:13

Yes, Ideally the GRA would be repealed - but I can't see that happening.

I agree the GRA creates a legal fiction - and was clearly a very thin end of the wedge - since it was introduced for the "around 5000" people in the UK suffering such severe gender dysphoria that transition was the only solution.

Of course, a little over a decade later, the whole thing has changed, and now self ID is being demanded and you're a transphobic bigot if you don't agree with it, or if you even hint at the fact that biological sex exists as a scientific fact.

It's a not-so-subtle abuse of women's rights now.

RepealTheGRA · 11/03/2019 18:17

Ultimately it will will have to be. It’s when it’s repealed not if. It’s unsustainable.

I suspect a lot more damage will be done to children before that happens though. Sad

ToeToToe · 11/03/2019 18:17

The sneaking on of the GRA by the back door - "we managed to do it without anyone throwing a fit in the press" - is noteworthy too.

They (Stephen Whittle & co) knew exactly what they were doing.

Indeed.

People
Wanting to have single sex spaces is literally what the Nazis did.

And of cause mums are always leading the Nazi charge. It's a well known fact we are all 100% fascist.

Have I missed the suggestions of pink triangles on here?

Katvonfelttipeyebrows · 14/03/2019 09:38

This one's interesting and I can't see it anywhere on this thread (I'm guessing it's old). It looks like transactivist response to the comment in bold to me. Then of cause they blindly think it's us!

Honestly TRAs stop it. Stop being so ridiculous. Campaign for third spaces with individual cubicles (alongside single sex spaces). The validation bullshit is wearing so thin. No one wants to stop you going to the gym, you just need to understand we have single sex protections for good reasons!

Honestly sometimes they make my eyeballs roll so much I knock myself out .

No one wants to kill you.

ToeToToe · 14/03/2019 09:50

Yes it's ridiculous.

That particular twitter user calling women nazis for not wanting males in their changing rooms used to be 'girl from mars' and was banned from twitter.

'Girl from Mars' posted pics of their penis is women's underwear, boasts about their 'tuck' being the best, attacked Birds Eye for advertising on Mumsnet, and tried to stop NatWest offering banking services to Fair Play for Women.

We don't want people with penises in our changing rooms "Rose". Women's facilities are for females.

JessicaWakefieldSVH · 14/03/2019 09:58

We can easily identify a man is a man using the magical power of eyesight. No badge needed.

Katvonfelttipeyebrows · 14/03/2019 10:00

Gosh, they sound brave and stunning unhinged

ToeToToe · 14/03/2019 10:08

Oh, and they've recycled that old quote (now deleted, of course) from 12thGuelph - who is a TRA. Women on mumsnet don't write shit like that Hmm

You only need to look at 12thGuelph's other posts to confirm this.

ToeToToe · 14/03/2019 10:10

12thGuelph called mumsnetters "ignorant little haters" on one thread.

EweSurname · 14/03/2019 10:13

This is the thread that screenshot came from

MillytantForceit · 14/03/2019 10:18

"Gender" is a legally unsustainable concept. If it can't be defined objectively, then it will come down to a jury and the 'reasonable person' test. Juries will say, "You're a man."

ToeToToe · 14/03/2019 10:36

You know, I think it was the "lady penis" that pushed a lot of people over the edge.

People were pretty accepting and sympathetic to transexuals - with reassignment surgery - for decades.

Women having "my penis is female" and "suck my ladydick" by people who are 6 foot tall, with beards and clearly male bodies, was obviously a step too far for most rational women.

ToeToToe · 14/03/2019 10:50

Sorry that last sentence doesn't really make sense - brain working faster than fingers.

*Having "my penis is female" and "suck my ladydick" shouted at them by people who are 6 foot tall, with beards and clearly male bodies, was obviously a step too far for most rational women.

Alex Drummond - you're widening the bandwidth of what it means to be male, not female. And that's great.

Daniel Muscato - I will not suck your ladydick.

sashh · 14/03/2019 11:48

The fact that David Lloyd think it’s acceptable to bring a policy like this into place is utterly vile

This is not a new policy, it's been theirs for ages. They offer a women's changing area, a men's changing area and a gender neutral area that is also accessible.

One of the blue haired brigade had a hissy fit on twitter because changing in the gender neutral one was some how demeaning. The person didn't want to see a penis while they changed but wasn't happy that women also didn't want to see one.

I see a lot of 'advice' about how horrible and degrading it is to be forced to use facilities that are also accessed by disabled people. I'm disabled, how do you think that makes me feel?

Katvonfelttipeyebrows · 15/03/2019 10:46

According to pink news David Lloyds are happy for anyone to use any changing room

www.pinknews.co.uk/2019/03/14/david-lloyd-gym-welcomes-trans/?utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=Buffer&utm_campaign=PN

Women's rights don't matter.

JellySlice · 15/03/2019 10:52

"The sex that they present" suggests that they would direct Danielle Muscato to the men's changing room.
