Sharon was brilliant, clear, concise. Hated the way Rachel McKinnon kept banging on that there is no scientific evidence that people born male have an advantage in sport - shame that Martha Kearney didn’t counter McKinnon’s claims with some, y’know, science.

SophoclestheFox - I’m 6’2”, sadly all flab rather than muscle Grin, dress in jeans and t-shirts, short hair, no make-up, not ‘feminine’ at all. Am just waiting for the day I am mistaken for a trans woman in the ladies loos...........

I’m watching to see how Specialized cycling company respond to RKs bullying of Dame Kelly.
We buy a lot of bike stuff in this house and I am happy to boycott a company that wants to silence women. Especially fucking awesome women.

adultFemaleElf · 07/03/2019 09:26

Great to see Dame Holmes fighting back

Doyoumind · 07/03/2019 09:26

I was coming to mention RM's bullying of Kelly Holmes as well. Specialized's immediate, woke response was on the side of RM but I'm not sure they know what they are getting into.

YogaDrone · 07/03/2019 09:28

Her majestic wonderfulness Sharron Davies also pointed out that if there are no rules around who can compete as a female that there will be less scrupulous people, organisations and countries who will take advantage of this and effectively force mediocre males to identify as women in order to complete. Yes, FFS, how obvious is that?

She scored so many hits with that interview completely showing up each of McKinnon's "facts".

Trans athletes should be competing in classifications as the para athletes do. This seems like the obvious "third space" option.

ColdFingered · 07/03/2019 09:29

McKinnon also thinks that Sharron and McKinnon look alike
Surely an ideal subject for Private Eye's Lookalike letters - only this time, they don't look alike...

FreezerBird · 07/03/2019 09:31

Heard the last bit of Sharron on Today this morning. My goodness she's wonderful.

I find it a bit frustrating when the presenter says "well McKinnon says ..." that people tend to respond with "I completely disagree". It's a strong statement but it still frames it all as opinion, and agreement/disagreement. I'd like to hear "McKinnon says testosterone makes no difference" countered with "McKinnon is wrong." Because McKinnon IS wrong. It's not my opinion/your opinion in this case, it's fact/not fact.

Good point about boycotting sponsors.

I will definitely be looking at who their sponsors are now.

A small act, but satisfying.

EweSurname · 07/03/2019 09:35

The link above for the interview actually links to yesterday's episode - as I found after 10 minutes of thinking there was a conspiracy and they'd removed the content (this is a joke, if any monitors are watching) Grin

This is the link for today

Am just waiting for the day I am mistaken for a trans woman in the ladies loos....

But you’ll be devastated by the mis gendering surely?! I’ve been accidentally called sir and mate all my life (I’m actually fairly gender conforming in presentation most of the time), and also been called trans a handful of times. I’d take that in a heartbeat over the near constant street harassment that a six foot blonde who likes wearing skirts gets. Now I think of it, as I age out of the wolf whistles, I get sir-ed a lot more...I’ll take that.

Anyway, Sharron is da bomb. Hope she knows we luffs her here!

nettie434 · 07/03/2019 09:41

Sorry Ewesurname my mistake. I forgot you can't use the latest episode link until it has finished broadcasting. Will ask MN to remove.

EweSurname · 07/03/2019 09:43

I appreciated the link! Just had a confused ten minutes where I starting buying shares in aluminium for my range of tin foil hats

In answer to what this what McK says, someone really needs to start their response with do you know what McKinnon's thesis is called?

Reasonable Assertions: On Norms of Assertion and Why You Don't Need to Know What You're Talking About - in case there is anyone left who doesn't know.

changecounterextraordinaire · 07/03/2019 09:49

Yup, had the ‘sir’ thing pretty much all my adult life. Haven’t resorted to a twitter tirade or demanding shop/restaurant staff be sacked for misgendering though. Yet. Maybe I should. But then again, I don’t get offended by it, just slightly amused. Maybe I should start to be offended - might get me some airtime. Grin

Rachel also published this (courtesy of another thread):

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 07/03/2019 09:54

Does anyone remember the thread where a MNer was very sad that someone addressed her as "chief"? Grin

Sharron Davies is doing an amazing job in raising awareness of the total bollocks ridiculousness of the TRA beliefs. McKinnon is also doing a pretty good job in raising awareness of this Smile

If I wasn't blocked, I would definitely be asking if McKinnon thinks it is acceptable for any man to compete in womens' sports, or just the men that believe they can turn into women.

We can't say it but we can do it! See my thread:

EweSurname · 07/03/2019 10:02

So:

McKinnon believes twaw
McKinnon believes a tw is anyone who says they are one
McKinnon believes tw don't need surgery or even need to surpress their testosterone levels
McKinnon believes even if this leads to women being disadvantaged, they have to suck it up or they're bigotted.

How is it possible to conclude anything other than McKinnon just wants men to dominate women's sports?

How is it possible to give this person any air time at all?

RockyFlintstone · 07/03/2019 10:10

I forgot Sharron Davies was in Gladiators! Although, I have to admit, my favourite was Jet, I just wanted to be her!!!

EcclesThePeacock · 07/03/2019 10:12

I'd take a bet that the more RM says 'trans women are women', the fewer people believe it. Sorry, Tinkerbell, this is the real world not children's fiction.

BettyDuMonde · 07/03/2019 10:18

How can you forget Sharron in Gladiators? Every time I go up an otherwise empty travelator in Tesco I pretend to be her!

Sharron does lots of public speaking - how amazing would it be to get her to a WPUK/WNTT panel talk?

RockyFlintstone · 07/03/2019 10:27

McKinnon now going after Kelly Holmes sponsors, they really are just vile aren't they, and also must know they are running low on ammo.

Specialized have said they are 'going to look into it'. Nice to know that they think that women speaking up for themselves need to be bullied into submission. Hopefully they will look into it and see it for what it is.

SecondRow · 07/03/2019 10:29

Urgh just catching up on the Specialized thing (and started following Kelly Holmes). I'm blocked by RM so can't see the tweets she "flagged" to Specialized but the responses are overwhelmingly in Kelly's favour.

We have two Specialized bikes in this house, my son has been happily riding the pink one since my daughter got the purple one. My son had a couple of questions from friends about how come he has a pink bike Hmm to which he just shrugged and said "my sister got a new one so it's my bike now". Anyway, DD needs a new one this spring and was looking at buying a new Specialized as next size will hopefully do her for a couple of years... Definitely gonna hold off and see if they look into this any deeper.
