I didn't realise Miranda Yardley was in court today over alleged transphobic harrasment.

At Basildon Magistrates Court where Miranda Yardley is on trial for transphobic Harassment. The prosecution applied for reporting restrictions to prevent the complainant Helen Islan from being named. The judge has not granted them. So Helen Islan can be named.

Sending Miranda good luck vibes.

Just stepping in to wish Miranda well Flowers
Although I don't know how much public attention this will get.

HouseOfMouse · 01/03/2019 15:02

I hope that common sense prevails. Good luck Miranda!

Also, isn’t it about time something was done about TRAs and their acolytes repeatedly using the police to intimidate and silence people? This is public money that is being wasted.

EweSurname · 01/03/2019 15:03

The hypocrisy is hard to stomach

Hackmum I wondered too. I think she may be retaining lawyers to advise her hence Mermaids probably are funding some of this

Absolutely disgusting that public money and a court's time is being wasted on this.

But good we get more sunlight on it all.

QuietContraryMary · 01/03/2019 15:05

Katvonfelttipeyebrows indeed. Though I'd probably clarify that that Tweet there is NOT from Miranda, though it does give an indication of the kind of 'for thee but not for me' standards Helen is trying to enforce.

PencilsInSpace · 01/03/2019 15:05

Gosh, it's all gone a bit 'carceral' lately, hasn't it?

Good luck Miranda, may justice prevail! FlowersWine

Yardley counsel has asked if Islan was attempting to blackmail the court by stating she could not appear without anonymity.

Miranda WineThanks

QuietContraryMary · 01/03/2019 15:08

Not up on the legal aid rules, how does that work at the moment? Or is Miranda having pro bono representation ?

QuietContraryMary · 01/03/2019 15:10

Keep it coming Joani.

It looks like Miranda's counsel is fully alive to all the tricks.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 01/03/2019 15:11

following with intense interest and wishing Miranda well Flowers

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 01/03/2019 15:13

Nice to see that national lottery money going to a 'good cause'

Datun · 01/03/2019 15:15

I sincerely hope the national lottery money is not going to fund a non trans woman suing a transwomen for transphobia.

MrsBertBibby · 01/03/2019 15:15

If they're still cross examining the complainant, then there won't be a verdict today. Unless the judge throws it out at half time.

tirisfalpumpkin · 01/03/2019 15:16

Well, I guess if they spend it all on vexatious court cases, there isn’t much left to spend on their more unpleasant practices...

avidly watching Twitter for updates

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 01/03/2019 15:17

Can't Miranda counter sue (or whatever the correct term is)?

BlueSkiesLies · 01/03/2019 15:19

Go Miranda!

BettyDuMonde · 01/03/2019 15:20

I wonder if anyone will tell HBomberguy that he has funded the persecution of an actual transperson?

I mean, surely this means HBomberguy is now an almighty transphobe?

QuietContraryMary · 01/03/2019 15:23

The prosecution is by the CPS though and it relates to Helen's private tweets which aren't officially in the name of Mermaids.

Thingybob · 01/03/2019 15:23

I think she may be retaining lawyers to advise her hence Mermaids probably are funding some of this

It would be interesting to know if the Legal Advisor employed by Mermaids is part of the legal team at Helen's disposal. If so Tudor Trust should be made aware as it was their grant of £94k that has funded the post.

Popchyk · 01/03/2019 15:30

I think Memaid's legal advisor is no longer a practising solicitor.

So won't be representing Helen in court.

Helen may only have a solicitor from the CPS. Which obviously is funded by taxpayers.

Carowiththegoodhair · 01/03/2019 15:43

But publishing photos of someone else’s children stolen from their ex’s FB and identifying their schools is ok according to Surrey police. Or at least not serious enough to pursue the offender. Hmm

Funny old world. And Flowers Mir xx

rocketromano · 01/03/2019 15:43

I hope the National lottery people are aware of where their money is going!
Good luck Miranda, may common sense prevail

OlennasWimple · 01/03/2019 15:44

Blimey...

Solidarity Miranda
