Julia Long asking Munro Bergdorf about child exploitation

happydappy2 · 19/02/2019 13:27

Julia Long was asked to leave the venue, after asking MB if it was normal that an 11yr old child dancing in front of adults, has money thrown at them by grown men. This was at Transmission & was deemed an offensive question....video footage on twitter of the incident.....worth a watch, sorry I can’t link to it but hope someone else can.

[Edited by MNHQ to add video link]

Julia is lovely, you must be mixing her up with someone else antifa.

We're not allowed to link to offensive terms on here, antifa, let alone type them out. Do get with the programme.

Ereshkigal · 19/02/2019 22:54

So, antifa, any thoughts on the inappropriate sexualisation of children?

donquixotedelamancha · 19/02/2019 22:56

We're afraid we had to zap a couple of links to the video at the start of this thread. Someone quite correctly pointed out that the comments in the link broke our guidelines in that they used names and terms that go against someone's preferred pronouns and felt a bit derogatory, so we felt they did have to go.

@HebeMumsnet.

Are you saying that you now remove links which go to external sites where the site might contain a derogatory comment? If so this cuts off an awful lot of sites which don't moderate they way MN does. It also (as PP describes) makes it very easy to turn threads to swiss cheese by commenting on other sites where you can't be banned.

Or have I misunderstood and the posts you deleted were misgendering and derogatory themselves?

Wasn’t there a thread pulled down about Munroe the other week, the one about the underwear? Seems Munroe is a bit sensitive and probably likes threatening MNHQ. I’d let Munroe have at it if I were you HQ, ain’t nothing transphobic said around here, and if there is you do a sterling job of deleting it, as of course you should.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 19/02/2019 23:01

Very well put don

Its a shame anti felt they could say something like that

Whatisthisfuckery · 19/02/2019 23:02

Munro without an e. Sorry Munro, not sure where that stray e came from.

donquixotedelamancha · 19/02/2019 23:03

Wow @MNHQ. Appreciate the record time in getting rid of antifa's bile.

Any chance of a reply on the videos issue?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 19/02/2019 23:05

Well now thats worked it means no more linking to twitter

Twitter is full of stuff 'not in the spirit'

R0wantrees · 19/02/2019 23:08

Safeguarding children and vunerable adults requires that adults are able to identify and name potential risks and to ask questions of those connected be they revered priests, respected police officers, 'national treasures' or celebrated within trans/queer communities.

Deliriumoftheendless · 19/02/2019 23:09

Any critical links shut down straight away.

Interesting decision.

Can people suggest other websites if no direct link? Or is there an appropriate list being draw up which posters must adhere to?

Ereshkigal · 19/02/2019 23:21

Munro without an e. Sorry Munro, not sure where that stray e came from.

No you were right first time!

One last thought on antifa's unpleasant opinions:

I reported their post less than 10 minutes after it was made and it was taken down a couple of minutes later. In that time MNHQ had had so many complaints they had to send a mass email.

This isn't unusual. It's the norm whenever I report genuinely transphobic comments. This board is regularly accused of transphobia but actual transphobia is leapt on by the very posters being accused of it.

Dr Jane Monckton Smith
(Forensic Criminologist specialising in homicide, Coercive Control and stalking. )

"In coercive control, the controlling person will keep diverting the actual argument to push the victim to keep defending themselves against spurious accusations. That way the victim cannot put their side, and seems to onlookers to be guilty of something. It’s a strategy."

Floisme · 20/02/2019 07:09

Just bumping, for no other reason than I think as many people should see this thread as possible.

plattercake · 20/02/2019 07:59

It is sickening what is being done to Desmond and the other child (I cannot bring myself to type that appalling name). And sickening to see how many will enable it.

Thank you Julia Long Star

BertrandRussell · 20/02/2019 08:02

They didn’t just gloss over Desmond and move on, did they? They actively endorsed his treatment. That’s what I found shocking.

NeurotrashWarrior · 20/02/2019 08:09

I was thinking about how Rose McGowan was pressured to apologise for her response to the interruptions in her book launch q and a.

Was just thinking 🤔

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 20/02/2019 08:12

So many deletions in this thread! Someone’s been busy.

GoldenWonderwall · 20/02/2019 08:13

So an accusation of something being potentially transphobic is worse and more morally questionable than addressing that a child is being encouraged to act sexually in an adult venue for adults? Welcome to 2019.

HotpotLawyer · 20/02/2019 08:22

The “we need to encourage children to do what they want to do” line is so resonant of the argument used by PIE (Paedophile Information Exchange) in the 80s: “children have sexual feelings and have a right to express them “.

Makes your blood run cold.

And the cheering and whooping that greets that comment.

HotpotLawyer · 20/02/2019 08:26

“Munro without an e. Sorry Munro, not sure where that stray e came from.”

You have mis- vowelled her Shock

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 20/02/2019 08:27

Encourage children?? Yet they are fast to tell children that they aren’t a boy who likes pink - they are a girl push push push
