FPFW disinvited from discussing Martina's comments on 5Live

TransposersArePosers · 18/02/2019 11:00

Nicola WIlliams was invited to speak about Martina's comments along with RM. This on the FPFW facebook page

We were then disinvited after Rachel McKinnon publicly refused to participate if we were included. We discussed this decision with editor Philo Holland explaining how this is a frequently used tactic to silencing opposing views. It contravenes BBC editorial guidelines to allow a guest to veto the appearance of another

So the BBC being biased again, what a surprise. And a GC voice being no platformed. Why is it that these individuals are frightened to go up against the common sense facts??

Just a reminder, and for those who aren't on twitter,
McKinnon: 5389 followers
Navratilova: 266,100 followers

As good a measure of popularity as any. In fact McKinnon is a total nobody. Even Haddock has more followers: 7827 little tra army. Grin

Also I'm pretty sure Navratilova does pundit work because she enjoys it, not because she needs the money. She certainly doesn't need the hassle. So sack away BBC. Dump popular, much admired, knowledgeable commentators. See what that does for viewing figures.

NoseringGirl · 18/02/2019 22:12

RM's lower number is possibly in part due to the fact that RM has blocked half of twitter at this point.

GiantKitten · 18/02/2019 22:42

I doubt if most of those blocked followed him in the first place. I certainly didn’t Hmm

BertrandRussell · 18/02/2019 22:45

Rachael has blocked a lot of people like me who have only tweeted very mildly a couple of times on trans issues to other people.

Iused2BanOptimist · 18/02/2019 22:54

Yes, Rachel has blocked so many people, the narc rage is completely wasted. Only visible to 5389 keen supporters. Be quite interesting to see one of those "tweet activity" summaries that Haddock likes to put on his timeline showing how many thousands of retweets etc he's had. The McKinnon statistics are hardly likely to impress.

I wonder if the drugs they have to take alter their personalities for the worse?

I wonder if the drugs they have to take alter their personalities for the worse?

I suspect so. Somebody on another thread posted some interesting historical research regarding castrati. Apparently they were known to be difficult personalities. It was suggested not going through puberty left them forever immature and annoying. Plus an unhealthy dose of bitterness at the hand they had been dealt. Something along those lines anyway. Confused

FloralBuntingIsObnoxious · 18/02/2019 23:19

Yeah, McKinnon has blocked me, but I'm not surprised, I'm a complete gobshite women's liberationist on Twitter. Much like here, really.

GiantKitten · 18/02/2019 23:28

Block lists don’t discriminate between the gobshites & the lurkers, tbf. They just shut out everybody who follows anybody they disagree with.

FloralBuntingIsObnoxious · 18/02/2019 23:36

That's true, but everyone keeps saying they dont know how McKinnon knew to block them, I'm just saying I know and I see it as a badge of honour. Owen Jones gold star block still needs to be earned, though.

Stv had a segment tonight on the concerns re the new lgbt schools guidelines. No representation from lgtb youth Scotland was available for comment/interview so what happened,? The interview went ahead with Maren from women & girls Scotland (I think). Take note BBC!

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 19/02/2019 01:18

I have complained about Nolan too.

I listened to a piece on Radio Scotland with John Beattie at 1235 earlier today (oh... yesterday) about Caster Semenya's Court case. He had an athlete and an academic on (not scientist though, I don't think) and he brought up the transgender issue a few times. Was an interesting discussion. He clearly understands the issues he was interviewing on. Unlike Nolan. Wanker.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 19/02/2019 01:21

If you want to listen:

John Beattie - 18/02/2019 - @bbcradioscot www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0002l8b

The women all trip over themselves a bit to be nice. And one (another presenter maybe? Not sure who she is in the discussion) starts talking about segregation by height and facilities, or something Confused

Mrstwiddle · 19/02/2019 02:36

I’ve just complained with a link to their own guidelines on contributors and fairness, only took a few minutes if anyone else is inclined :)

BBC ‘cut Nicola Williams from debate with Rachel McKinnon over trans row’

TurboTeddy

I think McKinnon has been using the acronym/insult FART for a couple of months now, and IMO it just reveals the hatred for women that this reprehensible person has.

Bowlofbabelfish · 19/02/2019 07:59

That article in the mail has the been claiming that Dr. Nick withdrew herself. That should be fairly easy to verify or disprove? I’d imagine that it was done by email?

If Dr. Nic did not withdraw herself, the BBC are in a clear breach of their guidelines and I think need to take a hard look at their editorial policy. I’m not surprised McKinnon didn’t want to go up against her. She is articulate and reasonable, and qualified to discuss the effects of sex and sport.

Rachel’s phD is entitled ‘reasonable assertions: on norms of assertion and why you dont need to know what you’re talking about.’

Needmoresleep · 19/02/2019 08:10

I read it as the BBC first invited her to debate, and then offered her a slot later in the programme, which Nic (rightly) declined.

So the BBC is effectively claiming that a chance to comment after the (soft) interview is the same as a debate. Because as we know, the TWAW brigade believe in #nodebate.

Aeroflotgirl · 19/02/2019 08:40

It is disgusting, reasonable debate being shut down and compared to racism, nothing of the sort. The BBC supporting this, we should all boycott the BBC. Misgony at its fines.

Bowlofbabelfish · 19/02/2019 08:40

Ahhh...that makes sense. It’s still allowing one guest to veto another isn’t it?

‘Well we will allow you on three weeks next Tuesday at five am after we’ve given the other person an unchallenged slot.’ Nice.

Aeroflotgirl · 19/02/2019 08:41

The truth hurts!

MillytantForceit · 19/02/2019 08:46

Today's Puzzle For Today:

A radio station wishes to discuss an issue with Speaker A and Speaker B.

Speaker A agrees to debate with Speaker B.

Speaker B refuses to debate with Speaker A.

Who do you throw off the programme?

Needmoresleep · 19/02/2019 08:52

Is there an irony there? The story is now about the BBC.

Nic says she was disinvited. The BBC say she was given an opportunity to comment later. The Mail determined, as always, to produce a balanced article prints both versions, ending up with a slightly confusing they said, she said, narrative.

RiverTam · 19/02/2019 08:57

Nic has herself acknowledged that she was offered a slot later which she rightly turned down as being unacceptable.
