FPFW disinvited from discussing Martina's comments on 5Live

TransposersArePosers · 18/02/2019 11:00

Nicola WIlliams was invited to speak about Martina's comments along with RM. This on the FPFW facebook page

We were then disinvited after Rachel McKinnon publicly refused to participate if we were included. We discussed this decision with editor Philo Holland explaining how this is a frequently used tactic to silencing opposing views. It contravenes BBC editorial guidelines to allow a guest to veto the appearance of another

So the BBC being biased again, what a surprise. And a GC voice being no platformed. Why is it that these individuals are frightened to go up against the common sense facts??

A brilliant summing up there Popchyk..

How did we get here? How can things have rolled back to this extent? Sad

donquixotedelamancha · 18/02/2019 15:41

He was poking his interviewee in a Bill Grundy 'Go on, say something BAD!' kind of way.

While he wasn't directly making that call, very obviously soliciting such a statement is really inappropriate when the person in question is a colleague.

Daughterofmabel · 18/02/2019 15:46

I've sent a complaint. It may not do any good but say they get one from everyone on this thread it may make them think

justasking111 · 18/02/2019 15:50

Having fought our way out of barefoot, pregnant, in the kitchen, as a woman I ask. What box do the trans. community want to put us in?

andyoldlabour · 18/02/2019 15:57

Maybe the BBC needs to be shown a few examples of what McKinnon is really like. I don't know how to take screenshots of twitter feeds but this link shows McKinnon bullying a lesbian over the usual things.

Breeders who know to keep their mouths shut justasking111. That is until Womb2.0 comes along and then, well, just be some kind of handmaidens cheering on male people.

TurboTeddy · 18/02/2019 17:31

andyoldlabour I noticed that our delightful cycling champion also tried to rebrand TERF's as FART's; is this a new acronym or a straight forward playground insult? Has anyone heard this before? When I wear my pro women badge with pride I want to make sure it's got the correct slur on it.

littlbrowndog · 18/02/2019 17:34

Can’t see it Andy. Am blocked like the rest of th world

FeedMeBooks · 18/02/2019 17:46

However, the BBC played down the spat. ‘Our presenters and commentators come with a wealth of experience and knowledge covering all aspects of the game at the very highest level,’ a spokeswoman said. ‘Thoughts on individual presenters and commentators are subjective and so it’s inevitable that our audience will prefer some over others.’

This was the response to John Inverdale being sexist on air a couple of years ago. BBC is just so female friendly, not.

boatyardblues · 18/02/2019 17:46

it's a slippery slope nauticant

I'm now a twice a month woman

Yeah, you get a taste for it. I’m currently sharpening my pencil to complain about John Humphries rude, boorish behaviour towards the female BME academic he “interviewed” shortly after 8am on the Today programme. My MIL messaged me in delight when his retirement was announced. He should go asap.

nauticant · 18/02/2019 17:52

That was a low even for Humphrys. I heard it as goad followed by "eh, eh, EH, EH?"

teawamutu · 18/02/2019 17:54

I've complained too and referenced the charter. Bloody disgrace.

Martina, however, is and remains magnificent. And has about 99%of all the responses I've seen so far with her.

Keep pulling.

sackrifice · 18/02/2019 17:58

Most men find farting funny.

SlipperyLizard · 18/02/2019 17:58

I’ve made a complaint today, please take the time to do it if you can!

femaleadulthuman · 18/02/2019 18:23

I've just complained as well, didn't take long to do.

TurboTeddy · 18/02/2019 18:49

sackrifice I see what you did there Grin

Viewfromtheisland · 18/02/2019 19:18

First time complainant here and first time poster on this board. Regardless of my personal opinion, I expect to hear free speech and debate on the BBC. (Must be naive after reading posts above) This segment was devoid of both.

Trinity1976 · 18/02/2019 19:59

Just been listening to the segment. I was shocked by Nolan's "maybe Martina doesn't know this or just doesn't care" comment.

Or maybe she does know and she knows how poor the IOC rule is - wonder if that occurred to Nolan.

Everyone is correct in what they are saying about how biased the piece was. People will have listened to that and gone away with the impression that transwomen must meet really strict guidelines in order to compete as women, and will assume all is fine.

IdaBWells · 18/02/2019 20:04

I cannot stand the BBC. The outrageous misogyny when they have a transwomen on and no biological woman is such a pile of complete ridiculousness. It’s no coincidence that this is happening at the same time that a heavily pregnant women it getting hounded out of the Labour Party. This is the insane world we live in.

DoctoressPlague · 18/02/2019 20:08

Complaint sent.
If anyone wants to send a quick complaint, you could just quote FPFW's statement and refer to Editorial Guidelines section 6.4.28

Anyone has the right to refuse to contribute to our output and it is not always necessary to mention their refusal. However, the refusal of an individual or an organisation to make a contribution should not be allowed to act as a veto on the appearance of other contributors holding different views, or on the output itself.

NigellasGuest · 18/02/2019 20:14

I stopped listening to Radio 5 and moved to LBC, it's a million times better. They discussed this issue the other morning.

DoctoressPlague · 18/02/2019 20:17

Just been listening to the segment. I was shocked by Nolan's "maybe Martina doesn't know this or just doesn't care" comment.

Martina knows something that Stephen Nolan doesn't. He really should do some research - or is he not fussed because it's 'only' women's (and mediocre men's) sports?

Daughterofmabel · 18/02/2019 20:19

Complained

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 18/02/2019 20:20

He's not fussed because he's currently in the inner circle.

littlbrowndog · 18/02/2019 20:42

I just watch stv for news now. It’s been an eye opener
They are so much better than bbc Scotland who follow party line
They wer3 ones who broke news on that student who sexually abused the 7 year old
