Martina speaks out!

I'm so pleased to see this. I've been a big fan of Martina since I was a kid and this just makes her go up even higher in my estimation:

LBC ran a piece on it. Scores of people peak transing on Twitter. twitter.com/LBC/status/1097060525681332224

OlennasWimple · 17/02/2019 17:25

I love these Twitter comments about setting up a leagye for trans sports

lottiebel123 · 17/02/2019 17:27

McKinnon is frantically tweeting themselves back and forth because nobody else wants to engage with the non argument. I especially liked the tweet "I am a biological woman" (if you say it loud enough, often enough, perhaps it becomes truth)

Destinysdaughter · 17/02/2019 17:29

Wow what a difference in the way The Guardian is reporting this!

www.theguardian.com/sport/2019/feb/17/martina-navratilova-criticised-over-cheating-trans-women-comments

lottiebel123 · 17/02/2019 17:33

no comments on the Guardian article? I have zero respect for the Guardian. They know that trans women competing against women is unfair. They know it. Everybody knows it. Nobody except a few very blinkered TRAs argue otherwise. It's moronic to argue otherwise. The Guardian pretend they don't see this. It's dishonest journalism.

Oxytocindeficient · 17/02/2019 17:34

Martina has had much more support than criticism but those fools at the Guardian aren’t going to publish that, are they.

NotTerfNorCis · 17/02/2019 17:35

Never fear, McKinnon is there to advise how to make good on 'transphobic' opinions.

  1. Acknowledge that, yes, you did the harmful thing that people are calling attention to.
  1. Apologize, and mean it. If the harm was public, the apology needs to be public.
  1. Delete the harmful content (if possible).
  1. Listen to the criticism and thank the people calling you out. People often only call out if they genuinely want the person to do better.
  1. Commit to doing better, and put in the work.

ForTheTimeBeing · 17/02/2019 17:37

I'm so glad Martina's not been silenced after all!

lottiebel123 · 17/02/2019 17:38

the sheer arrogance of McKinnon, thinking they can take on the legend that is Martina Navratilova! How bloody dare they?!

HotpotLawyer · 17/02/2019 17:42

Perhaps Mckinnon could take that advice in respect of the women relegated to second and third place in that race....

Who defines ‘harm ‘?

Iused2BanOptimist · 17/02/2019 17:55

“She trades on age-old stereotypes and stigma against trans women, treating us as men just pretending to be real women."

Poor Rachel. Why would anyone think Rachel was a man just pretending to be a real woman? GrinGrinGrin

HamiltonCork · 17/02/2019 18:03

Truly hilarious how much McKinnon is furiously tweeting about this and there is pretty much no engagement from anyone. What a loser.

terryleather · 17/02/2019 18:07

I'm so glad RM has been publicly snouted by Martina.

In a hugely overcrowded field the only thing RM could legitimately win is the medal for world class ridiculously testerical narc without one iota of self awareness - and that's saying something

NotTerfNorCis · 17/02/2019 18:10

“We cannot have a woman legally recognized as a trans woman in society,” McKinnon says, “and not be recognized that way in sports. … Focusing on performance advantage is largely irrelevant because this is a rights issue. We shouldn’t be worried about trans people taking over the Olympics. We should be worried about their fairness and human rights instead.”

FloralBuntingIsObnoxious · 17/02/2019 18:14

The Guardian are just itching to denounce Martina openly, aren't they? That impulse to burn the heretic is simmering under the surface, which is presumably why, rather than engaging with anything she said, they've just given acres of space to trans spokespeople and McKinnon being petulantly pompous.

MillytantForceit · 17/02/2019 18:16

...Except that different countries have different laws, which is why international sports governing bodies set their own rules and do not allow any appeals to national courts over their rulings except to CAS.

(The Russian Courts have recently ruled that CAS has no jurisdiction within Russia, and so convicted cheats are still considered Olympic champions there.)

ixqik · 17/02/2019 18:17

Regarding Mackinnin repeating that genitals don’t play sports:

I would like to propose that they do.

Testes make testosterone.

Am I missing something?

MillytantForceit · 17/02/2019 18:24

Wonder if RM rides on a saddle like this, like the girls do?

Needmoresleep · 17/02/2019 18:33

The Guardian article is funny. They quote Martina's carefully drafted arguments then counter them with McKinnens. No comments so no risk that some might suggest that Martina makes more sense.

Does no one at Stonewall etc care about the risk of girls giving up sport in droves. Or the market for womens sport fading away because people are not interested in seeing natal men win.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 17/02/2019 18:54

The Guardian article was predictably rubbish. It boiled down to Navratilova making a reasoned argument for why transwomen do not belong in women's sports and tweets by MKinnon on hurty feelz.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 17/02/2019 18:56

Does no one at Stonewall etc care about the risk of girls giving up sport in droves

No.

Or the market for womens sport fading away because people are not interested in seeing natal men win.

Girls will always want to play sports; I don't think the male sector of the audience will care if transwomen win and women lose.

DoctoressPlague · 17/02/2019 19:03

The Guardian pretend they don't see this. It's dishonest journalism.

It really is. I was a subscriber for 20 years. Judging by the comments in that pansexuality article, a lot of readers have had enough of this shit, yet the Guardian carries on reporting about identitybollox like it's on a different planet.

nauticant · 17/02/2019 19:06

The Guardian are just itching to denounce Martina openly, aren't they?

I get this impression too. I suspect that even The Guardian have realised that the public won't swallow this*, and know that if they go into preachy woke mode, like they did over Cologne, this could bite them on the bum, like Cologne did. So they've gone for "balance" in the hope that we'll pick up the cues about how awful Martina is.

  • well, not without a lot more brainwashing
NotTerfNorCis · 17/02/2019 19:10

The Guardian is getting clobbered on Twitter.

twitter.com/guardian/status/1097185020526108672

Sometimes it can feel like everyone has been sucked in by the trans madness... then something like this happens, we hear from the wider public and realise almost nobody supports it.
