I'm so pleased to see this. I've been a big fan of Martina since I was a kid and this just makes her go up even higher in my estimation:

Fantastic! I am SO happy to see this. Thank you Martina!! Star Star

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 17/02/2019 12:53

What pleases me about this, as well as Martina's excellent piece of course, is that the TRAs (and McKinnon particularly here) are going to be the architects of their own downfall.

McKinnon's original response to the initial argument, in addition to McKinnon's and the TRAs' response to this article, will surely make people see them for what they are.

The illogicality of their "cause" is being pushed into the spotlight finally, and their own actions and statements will do as much to peak trans people as all our own work is doing.

I applaud Martina, and anyone else in the public eye, who truly is brave to publicly stand against the erasure of women and male entitlement.

nevernotstruggling · 17/02/2019 12:55

Yay!!

arunadasi · 17/02/2019 12:59

McKinnon has no arguments, no discussion points; they think that just screaming the word TRANSPHOBE! is enough to destroy their opponents...!! Doesn't seem to realise that that word has been so overused and wrongly used that no-one takes it seriously, no-one minds; it's a club made of cotton wool.

Sarahconnor1 · 17/02/2019 13:06

Martina is a hero of mine, from her playing days to today.

I bought a newspaper today for the 1st time in about 10 years (hope it goes someway to repaying all the sharetokens).

Also in the Sunday Times is the article about GIDS, a lengthy piece on Sally Challoner, a small mention to the BBC dropping its ban on including abortion in its advice line, and an article about a police and crime commissioner who talks about how she was ashamed to report the domestic abuse and stalking she suffered to the police.

Iused2BanOptimist · 17/02/2019 13:13

Indeed, if a male were to change gender in such a way as to eliminate any accumulated advantage, he would have to begin hormone treatment before puberty.

I just don't think we are going to see a generation of successful trans athletes who were on puberty blockers. A successful competitive athlete will have been training hard from childhood, through teens, obsessed with their sport rather than their appearance, not spending their lives on YouTube and doing the rounds of Drs appointments. Furthermore I think it is likely the effect of having been on puberty blockers will be such that they will never have a competitive advantage whatever subsequent cross sex hormones or other treatments they take.

EdtheBear · 17/02/2019 13:15

“Sport isn’t played with the genitals” has made a reappearance on her timeline

WTF is that supposed to mean?
We have womens sport because women are smaller than blokes nothing to do with genitals.

However if you take the logic genitals have nothing to do with sport, what do they have to do with, other than DTD / making babies?

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 17/02/2019 13:17

Martina is fabulous.

QuentinWinters · 17/02/2019 13:19

police and crime commissioner who talks about how she was ashamed to report the domestic abuse and stalking she suffered to the police.
That sounds interesting and speaks volumes

jay55 · 17/02/2019 13:45

Well done Martina. Still trailblazing, still standing up for women.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 17/02/2019 13:52

Furthermore I think it is likely the effect of having been on puberty blockers will be such that they will never have a competitive advantage

Unfortunately the effects of having been on puberty blockers may turn out to include the kind of chronic illnesses and other horrible side effects that adults who have been prescribed them have suffered. It's a real risk that we may end up with a group of young adults who struggle to access every day life, never mind being fit and well enough to compete in international sports.

AldiProsecco · 17/02/2019 13:52

What Martina said was in NO way transphobic. PURELY facts

AldiProsecco · 17/02/2019 13:53

The picture of rachel McKinnon standing up there on the podium with two women illustrates the point so perfectly. Those two women are strong and physically at the top of their game and they just look like they're dwarfed by a bloke/

Sexnotgender · 17/02/2019 14:04

Bloody fantastic piece by Martina.
So glad she hasn’t been silenced by threats from the trans cult.

Sjofn · 17/02/2019 14:09

Love it. Talent and Intellect.

EweSurname · 17/02/2019 14:31

Hate facts, I think someone once termed it.

andyoldlabour · 17/02/2019 14:34

McKinnon has had a bit of a meltdown on twitter, accusing Martina - "she went FULL transphobe"

twitter.com/lifeafterdawn/status/1097061262830325760

Hopefully if this kicks off big time again, we are going to see a lot more people being peak transed.

OlennasWimple · 17/02/2019 14:37

And a reminder that you don't have to be logged in to "recommend" comments in the Times / Sunday Times

morningtoncrescent62 · 17/02/2019 15:08

Great to see Martina back in style. Yep, that's what can happen when we go away and educate ourselves. I especially liked:

My tweet brought an angry response from McKinnon, whom I had not named (I had no idea who she was at the time).

Yep, there's your answer, McKinnon, to "do you know who I am". Best take-down ever, and all the better for waiting a couple of months.

Iused2BanOptimist · 17/02/2019 15:18

anyoldlabour
McKinnon's tantrum is a bit wasted as she's blocked everyone who disagrees with her.
Also, re: Sportsgirl on her twitter thread....Kiwi Farms have revealed that, well, let's just say she's unlikely to be a sporting phenomenon. Page 58 McKinnon thread. Wink

Mner2019 · 17/02/2019 16:41

Go martina! She is just so calm and reasoned in the article. Love her!

nauticant · 17/02/2019 16:58

andyoldlabour, your twitter link is by Dawn Ennis, the author of an article on Outsports. But have a look what happens when the same story is tweeted by Outsports itself and gets a wider audience:

twitter.com/outsports/status/1097058110458474497

The comments are brutal. People are not buying the McKinnon version.

DoctoressPlague · 17/02/2019 16:59

I am so grateful to Martina for speaking out on this. Flowers

McKinnon seems to be doing their level best to render the word 'transphobe' meaningless.

nauticant · 17/02/2019 17:05

Hmm, I didn't get that quite right:

andyoldlabour, your twitter link is by Dawn Ennis, the author of an a disgraceful misogynistic and lesbophobic article on Outsports
