I'm so pleased to see this. I've been a big fan of Martina since I was a kid and this just makes her go up even higher in my estimation:

society is moving away from the binary to fluidity and sport needs to keep up with the times.

No, a very tiny, exceptionally noisy and aggressive and well funded political faction are aggressively trying to move society away from binary.

It's not supported by the general public, who are not going along with them and won't. Most people's response is that they've got no difficulty knowing who's male and who's female, this is silly and pointless, and life is too short and busy to bother with this nonsense. They're saying so in increasing numbers to the police, to politicians and to the media. Instead of more people getting on message, more and more people are starting to say no.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 18/02/2019 21:02

A small minority is just loudly talking shite to prove how special and fabulous they are. NO YOU’RE NOT - SHUT UP AND SUT DOWN!

AornisHades · 18/02/2019 21:05

Didn't Sally Hines trot out the line about women trying harder if they wanted to win against men? Was the sociology chap up against Sharon Davies anything to do with her?

HotpotLawyer · 18/02/2019 21:06

“society is moving away from the binary to fluidity and sport needs to keep up with the times.”

Just like gynaecology and obstetrics, SO last century to be so hung up on physiology and anatomy. They should keep up with the times!

MrsGface · 18/02/2019 21:42

There is a blue tick trans activist on twitter currently saying if a penis belongs to a woman then it is a 'biologically female penis'.

Right. So in that vein, if a dress belongs to a man, it is a man’s dress.
And I’m going to assume the woman’s penis belongs to a transman.

NotTerfNorCis · 18/02/2019 21:56

blue tick trans activist on twitter currently saying if a penis belongs to a woman then it is a 'biologically female penis'.

What an absolute tool.

Sexnotgender · 18/02/2019 22:05

Biologically female penis? What planet are these idiots onConfused

Iused2BanOptimist · 18/02/2019 22:06

Aornis. I didn't catch which university the sociologist moron came from. I might check it out tomorrow when I do my complaint. But there's a few of them out there spouting the same nonsense. Hands out to cash in on some of the generous research funding being dished out.

ErrolTheDragon · 18/02/2019 22:12

If women train the same way as men they can get the same results.

Without any pharmacological or surgical intervention, obviously.... Ok chaps, I'll believe that when a male can also overcome sex differences by training, and give birth to a baby. Fair enough?

MillytantForceit · 18/02/2019 22:20

Cashmore is a rent-a-gob controversialist who will come on and say whatever causes a fuss.

StrangeLookingParasite · 18/02/2019 22:27

deeply transphobic'.

This fucking phrase now fills me with rage every time I see it.

BettyDuMonde · 18/02/2019 22:27

Interesting choice of bookcover, Cashmore:

Reviews are interesting, too!

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 18/02/2019 22:32

Ok chaps, I'll believe that when a male can also overcome sex differences by training, and give birth to a baby. Fair enough?

Thats a very fair point

Its just lack of effort

TimeLady · 18/02/2019 22:33

I don't understand why the natural science professors aren't up in arms about these false claims.

Iused2BanOptimist · 18/02/2019 22:45

Thanks TimeLady His Twitter just makes my blood boil. Shouldn't bother really what an idiot.
Some men are like that. A barrister I know slightly comes to mind. Loves to argue Black is White just because he loves to argue and that's how he makes his money. He's as good as the last case he won. Paedophile or a rapist client with compelling evidence of guilt? Just makes it a more tempting challenge and a more satisfying victory when he gets them off.
I should know better than to let it affect my blood pressure. It's just a shame people like the BBC will give them airspace. And it's very disrespectful of a successful, knowledgeable sportswomen like Sharon Davies (who is also a BBC pundit am I right?) to pit them against a paid pit bull ignoramus like that.
Maybe they think it makes for an entertaining discussion or something but it doesn't. At best it is reducing women's complaints and the whole argument to comedy. At worst it is grist to the mill, supporting the argument for trans rights in sport.

I'd like to say well done to Sharon who kept cool and stuck to facts and the original argument which was actually to do with Caster Semenya and testosterone levels and nothing to do with society dropping the gender binary and sport keeping up with the times.

Well done Sharon. StarGinThanks

Voice0fReason · 18/02/2019 22:49

McKinnon is calling for the right to compete “without restriction” so not sure how that fits, unless she is saying males don’t have an advantage over females in which case words fail me.
Their argument is that the range of ability between different women is bigger than the range of ability between men and women.
Eg, In a sport where height was an advantage, a 6ft woman will have a greater advantage over a 5ft woman than a 6ft 2" man would have over the 6ft woman.
It's a bollocks, meaningless argument that intentionally omits vital information but McKinnon prefers manipulation over facts.

boatyardblues · 18/02/2019 22:51

I don't understand why the natural science professors aren't up in arms about these false claims.

Probably far too busy doing real research to waste time on Twitter countering all this pomo puff.

NoseringGirl · 19/02/2019 00:08

Zoflora I'm confused, are you saying Ennis was born male, transitioned, detransitioned due to amnesia and has transitioned again and is now asking for money for san pro?

Datun · 19/02/2019 00:22

Poor daughter though.

WhereYouLeftIt · 19/02/2019 01:19

Not Rachel Ennis, Dawn Ennis. And going by the photos on their blog, they do seem to be the same Dawn/Don Ennis in the Mirror article.

Good grief. I take back my comment about peak stupidity after reading the article about / blog post by D Ennis.
