When we have different standards for different groups. What is the word for it?

What do you mean when you say you've always been non-binary, Jax?

What if those 12 year olds in a female body wanted to undergo fgm? If it was performed in a clean clinic by a surgeon, and the 12 year old consented, is that okay?

FlyingOink · 12/02/2019 01:31

If it was performed in a clean clinic by a surgeon, and the 12 year old consented, is that okay? Which is the case in hospitals in Indonesia and Egypt, and yes presumably some of the girls "consented" (in quotation marks because children can't consent)

JaxintheBlue · 12/02/2019 01:34

I don’t have to explain myself to you vitriol.... why don’t you try to educate yourself... open your mind...

I’m pretty sure if 12 year old girls wanted to do that... (particularly white ones) ... they’d be queuing up :)

Sorry your too stupid to talk to

FlyingOink · 12/02/2019 01:36

Nobody is forcing these kids into the corset or breast binders, they can take them off at anytime. If they do something dumb or unsafe with it; they have help & support.
Btw.... have you even won one?

Nobody is forcing these kids to starve themselves†, they can just eat normally at any time. If they do something dumb or unsafe random people online and shady support groups with histories of sexual abuse will give them "help and support"

† for "starve themselves" substitute "cut themselves" etc

JaxintheBlue · 12/02/2019 01:36

So i’ll Leave it on that.

I will carry on in my beautiful non binary world, happy, free & liberated; understanding my privalidge of choice & fighting for those who don’t...

Good luck getting bitter, twisted & just nasty.... about the world evolving ;)
Some point the penny will drop for you

FlyingOink · 12/02/2019 01:36

Sorry your too stupid to talk to

You're

JaxintheBlue · 12/02/2019 01:39

Flying pig...
transgender is not self harm. Neither is chosen body augmentation.

Also fgm or bread ironing is not done by the child.

Is their no end to your ignorance Hmm

FlyingOink · 12/02/2019 01:40

I will carry on in my beautiful non binary world, happy, free & liberated; understanding my privalidge of choice

I understand your choice. You're opting out of the gender binary, and do not consider yourself female.
I have opted out of gravity, and do not consider myself subject the the gravitational pull of the earth.

Each to their own, eh?

FlyingOink · 12/02/2019 01:42

transgender is not self harm
No but again, a child cannot consent to harming themselves or to changing themselves in a way that could be harmful (and often is). A child can't legally get a tattoo.
Why do you think this is?

JaxintheBlue · 12/02/2019 01:49

You don’t understand my choice.
You know nothing about me or my body.
You just want to know it all...

Taking the piss doesn’t really help you seem like you understand either...
it just makes you look dumb & like out of date computer that crashes because it can’t handle the data....

You are missing the point.
The point is it’s really insulting and harmful
To compare and appropriate fgm & breast ironing, which is a gender based violence

Onto kids, who are simply exploring their gender, in safe & clinical settings; with affirmative on-going consent.

OldCrone · 12/02/2019 01:52

why don’t you try to educate yourself

One way of educating yourself is to ask questions of someone who knows more about a subject than you do. So how about explaining to us what you mean by non-binary.

FlyingOink · 12/02/2019 01:52

exploring their gender, in safe & clinical settings; with affirmative on-going consent
Except I've explained I don't believe they can consent. And there's nothing safe about a clinical setting if the outcomes are irreversible, if drugs with ongoing lawsuits regarding their safety are used and if there is no exploration of deeper psychological issues.

JaxintheBlue · 12/02/2019 01:54

I’m just curious.... are you both white & privileged?

OldCrone · 12/02/2019 02:01

kids, who are simply exploring their gender, in safe & clinical settings; with affirmative on-going consent.

They really are not. Children, too young to really understand about sexual reproduction, are being taught to question their 'gender', which is all about stereotypes. Confusion is encouraged, and some of them end up changing their names and thinking they can change sex. The physical mutilation follows, starting with hormone blockers and breast binding.

This is not safe, and there is no easy way out if the child changes their mind.

ALittleBitofVitriol · 12/02/2019 02:01

Sorry your too stupid to talk to

Lol okay then. You're so much more smarterer than me.

I’m pretty sure if 12 year old girls wanted to do that... (particularly white ones) ... they’d be queuing up smile

They are. At gender clinics. Hence the discussion. Do keep up.

ALittleBitofVitriol · 12/02/2019 02:03

Fyi I am the privalidge queen. U can tell cos my spellings.

OldCrone · 12/02/2019 02:03

Jax Are you surprised that people on a site called mumsnet are concerned about child welfare?

JaxintheBlue · 12/02/2019 02:13

Have you ever been into one of these places?
Do you know how LONG it takes to get to the point of surgery or medication?
Have you ever been in this situation??
Have you ever bloody met a trans person irl

You do realise... your actually arguing with somebody who was a trans child....
Your spouting stigma with no basis in reality ... you’ve never even been there 😂

Any other transphobic rock you’d like to try to hide under??

ALittleBitofVitriol · 12/02/2019 03:14

Your gaslighting won't work here Jax.

terfsandwich · 12/02/2019 03:30

Jax, off you go then to the Horn of Africa to explain to girls how they can identify out of their cis privilege to avoid FGM.

Im sure they'll be glad to hear about how non binary is a real thing that will save them from the patriarchy.

That way - - - - - - - - >

terfsandwich · 12/02/2019 03:33

Just think about all those uneducated girls who don't know about the 65 genders, and about being Ace. You could run workshops in Khartoum and Mogadishu. Give them back the true knowledge about how there's more than two genders, that the British Raj hid from them.

GeorgeFayne · 12/02/2019 09:10

OUTSTANDING article. The parallels are so true and valid. And the overt racism cloaked in enlightenment is equally tragic and fascinating.

Love the comments.

Jax
Let me very clear about something: your idea that the only children transitioning medically and surgically are those who have had extensive psychotherapy and are over 16 (or did you say 18?) is just as much a fantasy as your gender non-identity. As a pediatrician, I have had a number of young patients with gender identity concerns. I have sent them all to a well regarded academic gender clinic. Most have been offered blockers and hormones on their first visit. Just had a 12 year old female start on Lupron and T. No psychiatric evaluation, no counseling or therapy arranged.

Don't try to gaslight us here. I know EXACTLY what the affirmative guidelines say. I know very clearly what WPATH recommends. I gave a good idea of who is benefiting...and who is losing. Your accusations of hate are ironic; we genuinely care. About women, girls, boys. Vulnerable humans being drugged and chopped for a sick, sick lie. I'm sorry you've fallen victim to it. Sending you hope for healing and peace with your inner self.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 12/02/2019 09:21

GeorgeFayne Really? After the Webberly nonsense they can get lupron at TWELVE?

My friend's 16 year old daughter is now convinced she is a son. She is breaking her heart because she desperately wants hormones. Can't get them cos not old enough and the waiting list If that kid had said she was gay none of us would have blinked. As it is, she has purple hair and a girlfriend.

Macareaux · 12/02/2019 09:25

Jax, I think you might find that pretty much everyone on this thread is non binary too.

I doubt any of us identify with or perform all the gendered expectations attached to the sex we were observed to be at birth. Most of us are trying to overturn these societal expectations. Few of us actually 'feel like a woman'. We know we are women, whether we like it or not, because we are of the sex class that bears ova. We remain of that sex class even if our ovaries are malfunctioning or removed.

I'd genuinely like to understand what is different about your non-binariness to ours.

Ereshkigal · 12/02/2019 09:27

I'd genuinely like to understand what is different about your non-binariness to ours.

Yes me too. It's a very reasonable question.
