Womb transplants for trans women are a human right, says surgeon

www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/transgender-women-should-entitled-womb-13972102

"Because once the medical community accept this as a treatment for cis-women with uterine infertility, such as congenital absence of a womb, then it would be illegal to deny a trans-female who has completed her transition.

"The most important step is the harvesting from the donor as great care is required to avoid damage to the arteries and veins supplying the uterus.
Trans females have a much narrower pelvis than cis-women of the same height, but there would still be room for them to carry a child.

“Supplemental hormones could be taken to replicate the changes that occur in the body when a woman is pregnant.

The only time I've ever heard of it being attempted in a transwoman was with Lili Elbe in the 1930s, which obviously led to a rejection of the uterus and eventually death from infection.

R0wantrees · 10/02/2019 15:20

She didn't seem to feel there was an issue with gambling with life.

No especially a potential foetus or baby's life.
It seems to solely focus on validatiting a male transperson's desired identity and wishes.

See also the medically induced male chest feeding.

I find it makes me really quite cross when transwomen are described as infertile because they don't have a uterus and ovaries. They are not infertile, they don't have a female reproductive system which is entirely to be expected. They have a male reproductive system which may or may not be functioning depending on what treatment they may or may not have had.

I genuinely feel like I've had enough internet for today after that link...

I'm a mess as a biological female. I had underdeveloped breast and no mammary tissue of which on recommendation form the NHS paid for private breast augmentation. Half of my eggs are genetically incompatible with life, I have PCOS but luckily not many outward symptoms. My womb seems to have some sort of Teflon coating that even if I do manage to conceive a healthy baby it aborts at various gestations...and now people are trying to tell me how "lucky" I am.

I'm literally fuming (I'm Welsh, it's slang for angry) wanting to have bots added to you for a dream is not even close to the struggles of infertility. I was born with broken parts you just want extra ones!!! Arghh I genuinely think the Clomid has made me crazy this cycle! 😠

wireswireswires · 10/02/2019 16:15

@CoachBombay I'd had a couple of drinks when I read this the other night and launched my phone over the other side of the room!! Angry

Smotheroffive · 10/02/2019 16:57

Thank you for the study link their R0wantrees this:

So it is clear that someone born male will be at an immediate disadvantage if they wish to breastfeed a baby

Again, just to highlight, it is actually the baby that is put at extreme disadvantage and higher risk. Ebf babies have better outcomes. Science cannot yet replicate breast milk and the way it adapts to babies needs. Saying the words of the 'act' of bf simplifies the complexity. Like just by putting a baby to a nipple its the same.

MostlyBoastly · 10/02/2019 16:57

So many women out there that can’t conceive and transwomen want not one but two cracks of the whip with two different sex organs! Greedy much?

Smotheroffive · 10/02/2019 17:19

So, some liquid was produced, which has not been proven to be breast milk, and the baby was used a guinea pig to experiment with, whilst the mother and her breast milk were refused and blocked, which is now a crime under sex discrimination for women bf. Yet, its proclaimed to the world as bf! Worse still its believed as a miracle of science

BettyDuMonde · 10/02/2019 17:56

All adult male humans can theoretically produce breast milk as a side effect of gastric medication, domperidone.

Legend is that it was discovered to be useful as an off label drug to boost milk production in new mothers, when it was prescribed to sailors for seasickness and they were disembarking after months at sea with leaky nipples!

I forget where I heard that as it was back during my own breastfeeding struggles - probably via Analytical Armadillo or Kelly Mom, as they were my go-to sources at the time.

BettyDuMonde · 10/02/2019 17:58

Of course, that doesn’t mean that males using domperidone can actually sustain a human baby, just that male milk production has nothing to do with being trans or specific trans medicine.

Smotheroffive · 10/02/2019 18:05

Its untested liquid, its not actually known whether it contains that life protecting colostrum or can adapt to babies needs, whether pre-term etc. Its drug manufactured (and a banned drug at that)

Smotheroffive · 10/02/2019 18:10

Something leaks, but what it is exactly there's no testingdone to know, and the reports of bf in that article was supported with formula, and was quite unspecific about amounts, certainly not enough to feed a newborn in a 24 hr period. Yes, the basic equipment is the same as prepubescent girls, as babies develop the same in the womb to a point where the development then deviates for a boy and genitalia develop from the clitoris and labia etc.

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 10/02/2019 20:12

I had a transwoman on Mumsnet tell me their infertility was more painful than mine because at least I had a woman.

This person had fathered children. FFS.

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 10/02/2019 20:13

WOMB not woman!

FeministCat · 10/02/2019 20:29

Males who are leaking fluid from their nipples also should run straight to their doctor to be examined for breast cancer (possibly also pituitary cancers or other hormonal anomalities). It is not something to cheer.

littlbrowndog · 10/02/2019 20:29

Coach 💐💐💐

ICJump · 10/02/2019 20:35

Coach I’m sorry your friend is being such a dickhead. They are being particularly insensitive if you are in the midst of trying for a baby.

The one trans woman I know of who has recieved a womb was lili Elbe. Elbe died because his body rejected the womb.

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 10/02/2019 21:20

Ages ago I listened to a talk by one of the scientists who was involved in first sequencing the genome and I remember him saying that male and female breast tissue was very different at the genetic level. Just because men can grow breast tissue doesn't mean that their breasts are identical to females.

And to experiment on an infant?! I mean, for me, it tells you everything you need to know about who's welfare matters and who's doesn't.

Smotheroffive · 10/02/2019 21:26

I do think that direct link needs to be stated emphatically, womb transplant = foetal experiments.

Bowlofbabelfish · 10/02/2019 21:32

I remember that happening. Disgraceful.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 10/02/2019 21:38

Oh I remember that! Definately a special sort of self-obsessiveness.

Smotheroffive · 10/02/2019 21:40

There was absolutely nothingbweon with Haman's fertility, how fucking sick. Sorry but that person is seriously deluded.

Coach Flowers

Smotheroffive · 10/02/2019 21:40

*There was absolutely wrong with that mans fertility.

Bowlofbabelfish · 10/02/2019 21:42

There were a few similar posts. One at least aimed at specific posters with fertility issues in order to goad/report/get deletions.

Really shitty behaviour.

FactsAreNotMean · 10/02/2019 21:47

Was that the same poster as the one who claimed their vagina was better than a real one because it was tighter, cleaner and didn't smell like fish (paraphrasing them!!)
