The thread I wrote about attending Posie Parker's panel on gender identity and social media has attracted a lot of attention, and I thought it might be good to establish more of a dialogue. Ask me anything!

Also, to get this one out of the way: my babysitting rates are £15/hr, plus flights, and I'll provide a clean CRB check 😂

Welcome to Mumsnet.Cake

CallMeSirShotsFired · 29/01/2019 10:59

Does this dialogue basically mean you will tell us how to woman correctly?

Or is it just the standard telling us off and wrong side of history bullshit?

(just so we know)

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 29/01/2019 11:01

Welcome to Mumsnet. What is your thinking about posing with a baseball bat and the implied threat of violence it represents? Why does threatening violence against women seem like a good idea to you?

nauticant · 29/01/2019 11:01

What was the message you were intending to send out by posing in your pants while carrying a baseball bat that has associations with the intimidation of women, and then sticking a photo of that on social media?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 29/01/2019 11:02

Which opinions you you think women should have?
What makes a woman a woman, can you define the word?

glitchliz · 29/01/2019 11:05

I don't know if there are wrong ways to woman, but no, I'm not planning on telling anyone how to be - which tracks as I'm not especially keen on other people telling me how to live either :)

Or is it just the standard telling us off and wrong side of history bullshit?

Honest questions, honest answers :)

What makes you think you are helping anyone?

Bluestitch · 29/01/2019 11:05

Hi I saw your thread on twitter, and others commenting how they were glad you were safe, it could have been dangerous for you etc. Do you honestly think this is really a concern? Because it seems to me that the threats and violence in this debate are all in one direction only.

Have you ever hit anyone with a baseball bat?

Or do you play baseball?

BoreOfWhabylon · 29/01/2019 11:07

Yes, tell us about the bat, Liz.

AnotherBewilderedQuoll · 29/01/2019 11:07

Marking to come back later.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 29/01/2019 11:08

Maybe avoid the hard questions and tell us the rules for the game of baseball?

Waitrosenkavelier · 29/01/2019 11:08

And have you considered a cricket bat? Or a hockey stick?

AngryAttackKittens · 29/01/2019 11:09

Peak GF.

DialsMavis · 29/01/2019 11:10

Was it terrifying in that room with all those women who wish absolutely zero harm to you?

FloralBunting · 29/01/2019 11:11

Ok. You may get a verbal rough ride because of the reasons already mentioned, but I will be one of the people cautiously welcoming you here if you genuinely want to talk.

Can I ask, why did you feel unable to actually speak to any one about your POV when you were there?

glitchliz · 29/01/2019 11:11

The message I was trying to send was: the bats exist, they're for sale, this is what they look like. In the photo, I'm not brandishing it: I'm just holding it out for people to see. As for being in my pants, that happens to have been what I was wearing, and I'm not particularly bothered by that.

As for the violence it represents, symbols have different meanings to different groups. The bat, to trans people (especially vulnerable trans women), it represents empowerment. I don't advocate violence or threats.

Welcome to mumsnet. What did you have for breakfast?

Waitrosenkavelier · 29/01/2019 11:13

I was thinking about the baseball bat. It’s a bit American and I think that we really should embrace the UK perspective in this struggle.

I reckon a cricket bat might be better for hitting English women.

Maybe a shinty stick for Scottish women.

What do the Irish use for hurling? Is it a stick or a net?

And I’m afraid I’m ignorant of Welsh sporting persists. Maybe just a length of wood that used to be a bit of a rugby goal.

That reminds me, I am very excited about the Six Nations starting this weekend!

nauticant · 29/01/2019 11:13

That is very unconvincing. It looks like you're posting in bad faith.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 29/01/2019 11:13

The empowerment bat?

A bit like batman but with a tool for hitting instead of the animal?

Awesome.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 29/01/2019 11:14

Favourite biscuit?

AngryAttackKittens · 29/01/2019 11:15

The idea that holding a weapon is empowering in a non-violent way is the most American thing I've ever read.
