The thread I wrote about attending Posie Parker's panel on gender identity and social media has attracted a lot of attention, and I thought it might be good to establish more of a dialogue. Ask me anything!

Also, to get this one out of the way: my babysitting rates are £15/hr, plus flights, and I'll provide a clean CRB check 😂

yes I'd also love to hear your description of human reproduction. Maybe clownfish reproduction too as you're here.

Waitrosenkavelier · 29/01/2019 11:24

And then take a photo of yourself in your pants holdin a baseball bat. Hmmmm

So another question; do you think we are stupid?

userschmoozer · 29/01/2019 11:25

Y'all are generally described as a hate group

So now you know you have been lied to, what will you do to dispel that lie withing your group?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 29/01/2019 11:25

what else was I supposed to expect?

So you did no research and didn't know tranwoman attend and also have given talks?

When did you info on these event come from?

TheQueef · 29/01/2019 11:25

Did you take your empowerment bat on your foray into gc meetings?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 29/01/2019 11:25

Where did no when*

Toorahtoorahaye · 29/01/2019 11:26

Waitrose -

I think in Irelsnd sticks are the accepted method to beat the lovely women with according to this documentary m.youtube.com/watch?v=YkgNjKfFynM

Bluestitch · 29/01/2019 11:26

what else was I supposed to expect?

You presumably see plenty of GC accounts on twitter. Where are the threats? Where is the violence? Where are the GC people wearing masks and blocking trans people from having meetings? Where are the GC accounts talking about disembowelling trans people? It is ALL one way.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 29/01/2019 11:27

I'm sorry if this is rude, but who is Liz the Glitch? (Other than someone who started another thread on MN)

Bit hard to ask questions if I have no idea who the OP is?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 29/01/2019 11:27

Do you not think it's a bit stupid to not do any research and just assume 'hate' based on nothing?

FloralBunting · 29/01/2019 11:27

Seriously, Liz, could you have a go at telling me what you think is our position? I rarely see it understood by people who are heavily invested in the 'opposing' group. It would help immensely if we weren't talking at cross purposes.

HebeMumsnet · 29/01/2019 11:27

Morning, everyone. Thanks for the reports.

We don't feel this thread was started in the spirit of genuine or civil debate. It isn't adding anything helpful to the conversation and it feels pretty goady to be honest. We're going to remove it now.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 29/01/2019 11:28

Please don't remove it

thatdamnwoman · 29/01/2019 11:28

Hi Liz, I realise that you're new to being a woman and don't have the lifelong experience that most of us here are MN have had. So can I just give you the heads-up?

The phallic shape of the baseball bat, as well as the way it's wielded as a weapon (and indeed in domestic situations to beat women up) means that many women instinctively, and with good reason, read it as as a threat.

Now that you're a woman you need to understand this. If you go round wielding baseball bats people'll think you're a man whatever knickers you're wearing at the time.

Qcng · 29/01/2019 11:29

Noon it's really important to dissect a TRAs thinking

Bluestitch · 29/01/2019 11:29

Please don't delete it because it will reported back as MN unable to debate, silencing etc. Let it stand so people can see for themselves.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 29/01/2019 11:29

It was started as being goady but please keep it up. People need to read it.

DialsMavis · 29/01/2019 11:29

Thank you for your response.

Can you understand why women and parents of girls would want to ensure that male bodied people are not allowed into spaces where we are at our most vulnerable? If you don't see why we feel that way, why is that do you think?

DialsMavis · 29/01/2019 11:30

Please don't remove it, I assume MNHQ are afraid of Twitter backlash but it is interesting and civil so far

FloralBunting · 29/01/2019 11:31

Please don't delete, @MNHQ!

Purplewithgreenspots · 29/01/2019 11:33

I grew up believing they were for rounders. Now THERE is a good game.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 29/01/2019 11:33

This need to happen MNHQ please don't delete it.

AngryAttackKittens · 29/01/2019 11:33

It occurs to me that the most cruel thing one can do to a narcissist is ignore them.

Bowlofbabelfish · 29/01/2019 11:33

Welcome!

I’m interested in the language used in the twitter thread - namely that you felt unsafe in a room full of women who you actually said we’re discussing politely. I’m interested in the mindset that disagreement is violence and that ideas can make people unsafe. It seems to do three things to me:

  1. Allow people to be controlled easily by telling them not to engage with any idea they find uncomfortable. When I were a lass at uni we were encouraged to actively engage with uncomfortable ideas.
  1. Lead to the idea that any disagreement is an existential threat to the self
  1. Allow abusive people to threaten others. Many women on here have seen men do this (if you leave me I’ll kill myself etc) and this appears to be classical Male pattern violence.

What are your thoughts on this? Did you actually feel unsafe there and if so do you feel this was a genuine threat or your own psychological fragility?

NotTerfNorCis · 29/01/2019 11:33

Please don't delete the thread mumsnet.
