What we did was amazing. We pulled the GUardian, Parliament, the House of Lords, the media, out of a position they were determined to have, we changed the debate, we showed women were a political force, we acted, all over the country we acted. In different ways. We were bound by the GRA review and as soon as that was done it was evident that power relations had recreated within a social movement. Yes some people by reflex did things that they would always have done. Now we get to relearn and renegotiate power relations by saying we dont play the way media tribalists did. Whatever fall outs there have been were always going to hapen but we still did that. Thats why htis board is permanently monitored by nutcases and acually the power we demonstrated is directly at the root of the toxic fallouts and is a mark of success in itself. Political spectrum reforming within this movement is alright, but it probably pays to remember how amazing what we achieved was and letting that guide what we can achieve., We changed the conversation we can keep doing that. Easily. By having the conversation we want and not bowing to social media tribalism that hides all sorts of nasties and existing political orgs. And learning in a way they cant.

You seem to be having trouble posting. Are you new? 1st post? Maybe settling and read up a bit before passing judgement on a load of strangers you know nothing about

Not new to the board and not new false accusations.

Bonus points for teaming up with the religious right

Surely the 'religious right' females have more in common with me, a leftie, hemp wearing, vegetarian FEMALE gardener than any man on the planet?

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 30/01/2019 11:05

that twitter thread is depressing reading R0

but all the more amazing that we have made such progress in the face of such implacable opposition

truly the rights of women to privacy, dignity and safety are very upsetting to some

This wonderful banner by the Leeds Spinners.

As always, women are held to a higher standard and need to be beyond reproach...

I admire both Posie and Jean, while standing firnly behind abortion choice for all women, and personally never choosing to abort. We are complex people and that's fine. We are all different and that's fine.

We have a name... WOMEN ... adult human female, standing or sitting.

You know sometimes when you’re so frustrated with what women have to cope with and that we are still up against so much misogyny and bullshit, and you’re at home feeling angry and alone and desperate about it? Well that’s why this thread and others like it are so important, crucial in fact. It sucked that disingenuous people came on to disrupt an important conversation for women feeling alone or afraid about this, and to harass and bully when we have enough of that already, it’s just low. But thanks to all the brilliant women, we just kept on celebrating and accepting flawed women could celebrate this too. The starting point for any fight for any right for women, starts with our language. I’m not giving up as long as you amazing women aren’t. Together we have achieved a lot already.

bernard

I fancy doing a cross stitch version of that

I hate that fucking phrase...it literally means nothing

History is written by the victors...whether the victors were right or wrong

Dorade · 30/01/2019 12:43

Just under two years ago I started a thread that ran to some 750 posts about how we needed to organise at least as well as the transactivists if we were to have any hope of stemming the madness.

I was feeling dejected and that the whole thing was quite hopeless.

I'm not saying that that thread was in any way contributory other than as yet another grain of sand on the reality side of the scales but the actions of women and some male allies over the last two years had been nothing short of outstanding.

We don't have the ear of big business or government or other organisations in the way that TAs do because they had a well-funded and stealthy head start, but we have the vast majority of the public on our side once we alert them to what has been going on.

Women, you are bloody brilliant.

PositivelyPERF · 30/01/2019 12:46

It takes each grain of sand to build a castle, but this CG castle won’t be kicked over by the bullies. Well done.

Smotheroffive · 30/01/2019 16:01

...and the trans lobby is a gentrification of working class social and political movements... yes, Lucy (DPP). Nailed.

Women, you are bloody brilliant. and not only women but most men would agree also Grin

CowJumping · 30/01/2019 16:03

As always, women are held to a higher standard and need to be beyond reproach

Indeed.

It's as if when two women disagree over an approach to our liberation from patriarchy, that means "OMG, feminism is done for!"

This has been an interesting thread.

I am sorry that there are such divisions, but there are many ways to smash patriarchy.

Smotheroffive · 30/01/2019 16:04

Echo that too Oxytocin dealing with the hard negativities all too often, needing to celebrate and feel so good about all the positives, more often!

R0wantrees · 30/01/2019 16:46

I am sorry that there are such divisions, but there are many ways to smash patriarchy.

I think they are disagreements (sometimes profound ones) and that those who pour petrol on disagreements are the ones seeking to cause division often for their own gains.
Division is not inevitable, we can stand together and acknowledge our differences.

Smotheroffive · 30/01/2019 16:55

Its is absolutely, the pouring petrol that's the issue. Those in disagreement need to sort those out only between themselves (which was done from what I read further ^). Those pouring petrol and refusing to allow celebration were and are the issue. To R0 Wine
