What we did was amazing. We pulled the GUardian, Parliament, the House of Lords, the media, out of a position they were determined to have, we changed the debate, we showed women were a political force, we acted, all over the country we acted. In different ways. We were bound by the GRA review and as soon as that was done it was evident that power relations had recreated within a social movement. Yes some people by reflex did things that they would always have done. Now we get to relearn and renegotiate power relations by saying we dont play the way media tribalists did. Whatever fall outs there have been were always going to hapen but we still did that. Thats why htis board is permanently monitored by nutcases and acually the power we demonstrated is directly at the root of the toxic fallouts and is a mark of success in itself. Political spectrum reforming within this movement is alright, but it probably pays to remember how amazing what we achieved was and letting that guide what we can achieve., We changed the conversation we can keep doing that. Easily. By having the conversation we want and not bowing to social media tribalism that hides all sorts of nasties and existing political orgs. And learning in a way they cant.

I think the obsession on this thread is abundantly clear, and I think has been a massively useful demonstration. Massively. Thank you.
Nothing on this thread is new for me, but I think an illustration of what that looks like, levels of delusion, hatred, and focus of it, should be noted. Whenever I post on Mumsnet this occurs, same accusations, same pattern of posters, same syntax. Next time this happens it will focus on that. I wont be posting on Mumsnet again for a while, it was absolutely lovely this weekend and necessary. Remember. We all did brilliant.

Narcissists are funny, they cant cope with the fact htat they victim is not connected to them, has no interest. The whole thing is about maintaining a fantasy connection to that person. Its them usually announcing themselves quite clearly and sockpupets are very much a window directly into disorder that the person using them is ashamed of.

Thanks PERF

lisamuggeridge · 29/01/2019 17:51

And just so we are clear, this kind of attention is now in its TENTH year, and has been resurrected recently. Thats a decade of that. No wonder I am so consistent online, Its the only insurance from that pattern of behaviour. Knowing you would never do that. Ever.

It has been amazing. A big turning point also was Jennifer James' fundraiser for keeping women only shortlists for women. It was amazing seeing those £££££ rising, knowing how many people are happy to put their money to what they are afraid to put their face and name to.

She is another flawed, but brilliant woman who seems to have been forgotten along the way.

WeRiseUp · 29/01/2019 17:54

Soz Lisa that 'it has been amazing' wasn't in response to your post just above it!

R0wantrees · 29/01/2019 17:57

Just thinking since my last post.
There are lots of amazing women like Anne Harper Wright, researching and writing important, serious articles, not for payment or plaudits obviously but for women and children.

Being on this board for the last year has meant I've been fortunate to read brilliant women writers and academics whose integrity is so obvious.
Sadly if I hadn't been here, I doubt that I would have the opportunity to read their work. Ethics matter.

lisamuggeridge · 29/01/2019 17:58

Oh I know that sweetheart and it HAS been amazing. High points.

The feeling of us screaming back on twitter and properly breaking it there so we could be heard. Man Friday, that Posie interview with Haddock and that t-shirt and billboard, Dr.Nic DOING THE RESEARCH that the govt would not do, seeing women discussing safeguarding, seeing women DEMONSTRATING how they uphold the rule of law and cant be passed, taking sproglet to the House of Lords on her 12th birthday no matter how unwelcome I was made she saw a grpoup of women in the House of Lords WINNING after also seeing the impact on us of being targeted and not being able to go a meeting in my town. The feeling taht women were standing together, before power relations and existing political positions started to reform, its all been amazing. So many women. I will never throw a woman under a bus. But also this movement is demonstrating the dangers of social movements. No woman under a bus is ont the same as I wil stand with you and destroying women because they reject you is what TRAS do.

And Mumsnet women,. ALWAYS providing the discussion twitter cant do. Always. Because you are diverse and intelligent and unafraid. Its fucking inspiring to even be near occasionally., I avoid social media, but really.

lisamuggeridge Flowers and thanks for your work, your writing and your videos.

Your ability to make sense of complex situations has been appreciated by many on the board.

You may not be 'on' Mumsnet but your words often are! Smile

This whole topic, this thread, reminds me of one of my favourite Māori feminists, Whina Cooper. On our Marae, traditionally women are not allowed to speak. We know what that’s like right? So she retells this story about being at a big hui and the men telling her to ssshhh.... ‘ so I lifted up my skirts, and reminded them where they all come from’.

I fucking love that!

For those unfamiliar, she founded the Māori Women’s Welfare League ( my Nan was a founding member ) and she led the Land March of 1975. Plus sooo much more.

lisamuggeridge · 29/01/2019 18:06

No it was my pleasure. My absolute personal high point wont make any sense, but watching TWO separate academics outline the problems I identified in my dissertation as at the root of how austerity harmed women, to see that validated and to see women fully demonstrate how the rule of law is upheld, after eight years of believing noone gave a fuck about those systems made my LIFE not just my year.

Shock You are quite a feminist pedigree oxy

ToeToToe · 29/01/2019 18:09

Lisa - on one of the WNTT events, you went up on stage to talk for a few mins on safeguarding - it was brilliant. I just wanted to say - things were at a pretty low point at that time, and you gave me hope.

lisamuggeridge · 29/01/2019 18:12

that meeting was a high point. The second meeting that hadnt had protesters and one was in Todmorden so protesters would never have found us so didnt count. I knew all we had to do was say no, cos all the laws were ours and the shifts we had to address had already happened, seeing that happen organically without being pushed was amazing. We did win here, we havent won everywhere but here TRAS is about media being brought into line. We have exposed problems in academia, policy making, politics, every elite institution and we have told them they have to come into line and they bloody will. They have NO choice.

Woman's Place UK collection of brilliant speeches here. So many strong inspiring women:

Kiri Tunks' recent speech is very powerful

A Woman's Place is Resolute - 'Nothing about us without us'

"Who is the us? Women, that's adult human females"

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 29/01/2019 18:13

Hah! great story Oxytocindeficient

on the subject of letting women speak, I'm grateful to MNHQ for letting this thread stand. they must have felt it would be so much easier to delete the fucking thing, but i'm glad they didn't

and I'm also grateful to MN for letting the conversation go on here. I know we all rail under The Guidelines, but Justine could have just taken her ball and gone home. I'm glad and grateful she didn't Flowers (bet those dinner parties with the channel 4 execs are awkward)

Smotheroffive · 29/01/2019 18:28

Laughing and humbled by sssshhh'd Maori woman raising her skirt, celebrating her power of life.
No male voice should be heard in protected safe spaces, celebrating our clear line on that.
Celebrating challenging the noise of the railroading, gaslighting, stonewalling, threatening, intimidators.
Celebrating that Woman - human adult female will never be erased, and that the very idea is preposterous.

Smotheroffive · 29/01/2019 18:31

Celebrating the t'shirtz up and down the country on the women who'd be proud to wear them.

Linky for buying t'shirtz?

ToeToToe · 29/01/2019 18:32

It's standingforwomen.com Smother.

Smotheroffive · 29/01/2019 18:34

Also grateful to MN for facilitating a space for women's voices to rise up, to collaborate, and be strong.to join together against vile intimidation and abuse despite the very real threat and harm it causes.

To become something greater, and to stand up for.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 29/01/2019 18:35

How about Anne Sinnot

www.cambridge-news.co.uk/news/cambridge-news/cambridge-transgender-toilets-ann-sinnott-14975106

A principled woman who stood against making public toilets mixed sex, and I believe prevented the change from happening - well done Anne

Smotheroffive · 29/01/2019 18:36

Thanks Toe

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 29/01/2019 18:41

and of course the mighty Stephanie Davies Arai

transgender trend winning the john maddox prize was so well deserved

lisamuggeridge · 29/01/2019 18:44

Transgender Trend, Stephanie, Anne Sinnot, whole bunch of our male allies deserve a bit of recognition(probably not as much as they get on twitter!lol) but really Glinner and Markup. Cherry Austen and co, the women were screaming in isolation, the Lily Maynards and the groups of women who were literally ON THEIR OWN with this for ages and ages and ages. Lesbians at pride. Watching lesbians stand up on twitter. Its all been excellent. I do not see how fall outs and factionalism can possibly do here what they do on the left with their fake movements. It cant. THis weekend on Mumsnet has shown why. Women.
