What we did was amazing. We pulled the GUardian, Parliament, the House of Lords, the media, out of a position they were determined to have, we changed the debate, we showed women were a political force, we acted, all over the country we acted. In different ways. We were bound by the GRA review and as soon as that was done it was evident that power relations had recreated within a social movement. Yes some people by reflex did things that they would always have done. Now we get to relearn and renegotiate power relations by saying we dont play the way media tribalists did. Whatever fall outs there have been were always going to hapen but we still did that. Thats why htis board is permanently monitored by nutcases and acually the power we demonstrated is directly at the root of the toxic fallouts and is a mark of success in itself. Political spectrum reforming within this movement is alright, but it probably pays to remember how amazing what we achieved was and letting that guide what we can achieve., We changed the conversation we can keep doing that. Easily. By having the conversation we want and not bowing to social media tribalism that hides all sorts of nasties and existing political orgs. And learning in a way they cant.

The seven... Thinking of you and all others akin

Smotheroffive · 29/01/2019 18:55

The women and their dc in Refuge right now seeking literal Refuge, and the women running them, and those holding the purse strings that can make sure women remain safe with their DC.

I'm so grateful that video was shared today as I hadn't seen it before.

I understand there's some complicated, deep feelings and things to sort out but anyone who listens to Jean Hatchet speak knows absolutely how committed she is to women and how deeply she feels for those who are abused by men.

She doesn't just feel but has been working for women and girls for years.
Hence her Emma Humphries Prize last year: emmahumphreys.org/

Jean's empathy and commitment to women is unmistakeable.

Or rather should be.
It was shocking to see a journalist assert the opposite and worse about her.

As Jean says in her video, women have worked for decades building refuge and supportive services. Its always been women pulling together. Their work has often been ignored by government and the media.

I think there could be something important building for and by women and girls.

Mumsnet, Women's Aid & Surrey Police's work to raise awareness of coercive control:

"Mumsnet Founder Justine Roberts said: “We see so many conversations on Mumsnet in which users make disclosures about their partners’ behaviour. Most of the time, the person being controlled doesn’t realise that their partner’s behaviour is wrong, let alone criminal; they’re often asking for advice about how they can make their partner happier. We’re very proud of the many Mumsnet users who give a name to this behaviour and support those experiencing it.”

The display of utterly batshit obsession with Lisa is eye-opening.

What a marvellous display.

Well done guys [slow handclap].

Personally I support all women who stand up for women's rights and be counted in their own names, even those that are in the middle of a fight between themselves. It's not my job to judge who is right and who is wrong. Nobody is perfect. I remember when I used to moderate a large forum and the pushback I got when I picked up on the sexism displayed by men and the constant gnashing of teeth and resultant bullying when I dared to do so. Weird how women speaking utterly enrages them.

Colonisers rarely wield great armies of their own -- instead they create armies of the colonised to govern and police the colonised, buying off some, rewarding others, turning one against the next.

It was educational to watch attempts at this unfold in real time on MN.

And to see the most effective tool against colonisers wielded: full solidarity.

lisamuggeridge.wordpress.com/ New blog.
Old blog. idgeofreason.wordpress.com/

Am sorry to disappoint the persistent posters, but its actually two very dull blogs about system failure opening up and its mainly a reflective tool. I rarely blog about people but I do use it to manage the threat from media people and narcs, which is why there are posts in there about people from twitter. I only ever use poeople to illustrate systems. IHowever if you are interested in the batshit accusations of someone describing their own behaviour and they are clearly desperate for you to go read it, thats the links.

Brilliant #ManFriday which grew from a Mumsnet thread:

A Job Well Done
Posted on November 20, 2018
What a year.

"What started off as one woman heading off to her local pool to demand they accept her as a man on her say-so became a nationwide group of nearly 200 women, er, men, with national and international news coverage, smashing #nodebate into tiny, glittering unicorn sparkle pieces. Six months on and:

Swim England had withdrawn their Orwellian guidance telling swimming pools to ‘re-educate’ pesky women to accept men in their changing rooms, showers and closed swimming sessions;
various organisations, including the City of London Corporation, had taken another look at badly-thought-out policies admitting men into women’s spaces;
the government had responded to our petition, announcing an open public consultation on proposed changes to the Gender Recognition Act that had previously been seen as a done deal; and, most importantly;
people were talking and the great British public knew very well that ‘I am a man’ was not a magic sex-changing spell.
Now that the public part of the government consultation has drawn to a close, we’re hanging up our flowery swimming hats and mankinis, in the devout hope that we won’t need to use them again.

The job isn’t done – the government hasn’t made up its mind about the future shape of the GRA and Bonerwall is still mis-representing the Equality Act to any wokebot who’ll listen – but we feel that our part of it has come to an end.

We’ve been privileged to work alongside many excellent groups who are carrying on the fight in their own way: Fair Play For Women, Transgender Trend, A Woman’s Place, Standing for Women, Let A Woman Speak, Get the L Out, Liverpool ReSisters, Hands Across the Aisle, and more – and we’ll be continuing to support them as individuals who are passionate about women’s rights, safety, privacy and dignity."

Celebrating the successes! Bringing hope where there was fear.
Powerful vids, thank you!
Women and Refuge, are you reading

So much has happened over the last year or so. I remember being glued to the television/radio in the hope of a mention and being so glad of the tiniest thing, and the awful half hour Today Programme slot that ended with something along the lines of This is the Future Suck it Up.

I used to be following 2 or three things a week. Now, there is so much going on I can't keep up with threads on here.

Thank you everyone and keep happening!

(It is fun to watch that video from time to time. Women appropriating the word woman - who'da thunk it Grin off to catch up with Lisa's stuff - always fun to see it illustrated so ably)

BeUpStanding · 29/01/2019 21:36

Some personal highlights of mine which might not have already been mentioned...

Magdalen Burns is brilliant with her hilarious and insightful videos calling out bullshit.

James Kirkup, Janice Turner, Hadley Freeman and all the other journalists who first stuck their heads above the parapet.

Posie's projections.

The amazing and fearless guide leaders who are fighting to keep guides single-sex. Is one of them Agnes?

DJ Lippy's feminist playlist

Bowlofbabelfish's fantastic deployment of science, patiently and clearly explaining again and again and again how humans cannot change sex.

The recording and transcribing of that batshit Mermaids 'training' session.

But best of all has been all the amazing WOMEN I have met and the extraordinary network we are building together.

We have achieved brilliant things, and we will continue to do so. Keep pushing!

littlbrowndog · 29/01/2019 21:44

I love Magdalen Burns! She’s utterly brilliant.

Dragon3 · 29/01/2019 22:12

Justine could have just taken her ball and gone home. I'm glad and grateful she didn't

Absolutely. As the rest of the media begins to wake up, it's easy to forget how brave she was to let this discussion continue.

Cheers Lisa. It's a shame that the thread took a turn for the weird when the imperious trio pitched up. However their contributions were very educational. Not in the way that they intended. But nevertheless...

sackrifice · 29/01/2019 22:15

And yet there you are judging. Utterly batshit obsession?

Utterly. I said i wouldn't judge a woman who stands up in their own name. You can bitch all you want from behind your anonymous user name/s right?

sackrifice · 29/01/2019 22:17

I loved it best when women researched the law and pointed out to various councils and bodies that the advice given them made their policies illegal.

LangCleg · 29/01/2019 22:31

Give it up, Bubonic. You've been told that nobody is going to adjudicate external conflicts, between any women. Take no for an answer.

LangCleg · 29/01/2019 22:32

Thank you to Littlebrowndog for oi oi, which makes me laugh every time I remember it!

Dragon3 · 29/01/2019 22:37

Stop telling us what to do, Bubonic. We are not obliged to read, click, engage or come to a position on this matter.

Magdalen Berns. I miss her videos. They were eye opening and the first time it felt OK to question genderism.

Bubonicpanic · 29/01/2019 22:38

LangCleg

Your "take no for an answer" has no weight at all here. It's a forum.

And you appear to be adjudicating.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 29/01/2019 22:39

And you appear to be adjudicating.

She can say it as many times as you can say what you like.
Free speech n' all that.

sackrifice · 29/01/2019 22:39

Not quite sure what you are trying to achieve.

This is sustained harassment.

I repeat that I am not going to throw any women who stands up in their own name against the broken system.
