What we did was amazing. We pulled the GUardian, Parliament, the House of Lords, the media, out of a position they were determined to have, we changed the debate, we showed women were a political force, we acted, all over the country we acted. In different ways. We were bound by the GRA review and as soon as that was done it was evident that power relations had recreated within a social movement. Yes some people by reflex did things that they would always have done. Now we get to relearn and renegotiate power relations by saying we dont play the way media tribalists did. Whatever fall outs there have been were always going to hapen but we still did that. Thats why htis board is permanently monitored by nutcases and acually the power we demonstrated is directly at the root of the toxic fallouts and is a mark of success in itself. Political spectrum reforming within this movement is alright, but it probably pays to remember how amazing what we achieved was and letting that guide what we can achieve., We changed the conversation we can keep doing that. Easily. By having the conversation we want and not bowing to social media tribalism that hides all sorts of nasties and existing political orgs. And learning in a way they cant.

Stop telling us what to do,.

I was addressing the poster using the word bitch.

You still appear to be bitching about stuff, posting links [that the OP posted themselves] and harassing the OP.

Are you the kid in the classroom that won't shut up even though your point was made over 24 hours ago? I mean, come on already.

Smotheroffive · 29/01/2019 22:49

Meanwhile, back to the celebrating, which I am enjoying immensely, and who wouldn't?!... Keep those celebratory links coming.

sackrifice · 29/01/2019 22:52

I loved when Venice Allen booked the Houses of Parliament for a meeting after Millwall chickened out. Awesome.

BettyDuMonde · 29/01/2019 22:56

Tara Hudson’s middle finger at Dr Nic on live TV was a pretty special moment.

ToeToToe · 29/01/2019 22:57

Venice Allen - we have not talked about her enough. More balls than Millwall Grin

ToeToToe · 29/01/2019 23:00

Venice and Linda Bellos winning their case against Guiliana.

Maria Maclachlan winning her case against Tara Wood.

High points. Especially Venice and Linda wearing Suffragette colours in court - and the Judge telling Guiliana that this was not an offensive thing to do when Guiliana complained about it Grin

So much has happened this year.

ToeToToe · 29/01/2019 23:02

Here's Julia Long being brilliant on LBC soundcloud.com/anne-ruzylo/julia-long-on-lbc-21-08-18

Smotheroffive · 29/01/2019 23:10

Grin different kinds of women [in the swimming changing room] ...angry women ha ha Grin

SwirlyGlass · 29/01/2019 23:14

I’d like to add my thanks to all these great women. Because of them I have hope now, whereas about a year ago I despaired of the way things were going.

Jean Hatchet, you are amazing. I wish you all the best.

I also love the way posters react to some posters who, while they of course have every right to express their opinion, you can’t help feeling that they are totally wasting valuable, finite energy.

And I know it’s been a while since anyone mentioned cereals/cheesecake/other delicacies, but I need to say I had the best ever lemon meringue tart today. xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Smotheroffive · 29/01/2019 23:16

I can't think of anything better than women having a safe space on Mumsnet too.

SwirlyGlass · 29/01/2019 23:16

Forgot (shame on me) to add the lol, fascinating, infuriating, illuminating national treasure that is Mumsnet FWR.

ToeToToe · 29/01/2019 23:21

Mumsnet FWR is the best (and I speak as someone who was banned for a week for getting 3 strikes).

But to allow us to have this space - when the pressure from TRAs must be phenomenal - well, I salute them.

The attacks they get via Twitter (and no doubt directly) are vicious.

Smotheroffive · 29/01/2019 23:31

That except from The Times here (just ...words escape me!):
The founder of Mumsnet says transgender “thought police” are pressurising advertisers to withdraw from Britain’s most popular parenting website because it allows the discussion of trans topics.

Justine Roberts said she had been approached by three significant advertisers who had been threatened by trans groups.

“Transgender activists have contacted Mumsnet advertisers and said they will be organising a boycott of their products if they don’t remove their advertising from Mumsnet,” Roberts said.

The website had told the advertisers that it “works hard to keep the discussions civil” and was determined to let them continue.

“What’s worrying to me is the thought-police action around speech and the shutting down of the right to be able to disagree and immediately labelling it as transphobic,” Roberts said.

PositivelyPERF · 29/01/2019 23:31

I fucking live Mumsnet. I may not agree with HQ on some of their decisions, but they still give women a place to speak and that’s a rare thing nowadays. See! Even though MNHQ don’t always agree with what some of use say, they don’t fall out with us and expect us to take sides. That’s how it works.

Smotheroffive · 29/01/2019 23:32

These are the kind of people we [women] are dealing with.

PositivelyPERF · 29/01/2019 23:33

Love not live, though come to think of it!

Smotheroffive · 29/01/2019 23:34

Well done @JustineMNHQ

ToeToToe · 29/01/2019 23:45

Venice and Linda outside court.

A portrait of female resilience and strength.

A reminder: What we did was brilliant. Is brilliant.
Datun · 29/01/2019 23:56

I'm really enjoying these memories.

And yes to Justine Roberts.

This is her creation. I don't know if she loves it or loathes it. But it's hers.

And it's unprecedented in history.

What happened to those that tried to blackmail advertisers and bring down MN, if it would have. Blackmail was illegal last time I checked! Perhaps they [advertisers] just laughed at the lack of actual threat

R0wantrees · 30/01/2019 00:13

This was the AIBU in support of Justine Roberts and Mumsnet going public about the pressures the site had come under from trans rights activists:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3222471-AIBU-to-be-extremely-proud-of-Justine-Roberts-Mumsnet-right-now

& Justine Roberts interview with Julia Hartley Brewer to try to explain the announcement and decision (despite interuptions from India Willoughby)
16th April 2018

ToeToToe · 30/01/2019 00:17

Afaik, no advertisers have left MN as a result of this. Probably because they know who does the damn shopping

There was a sustained attacked against Birds Eye - which was actually quite amusing to watch unfold on Twitter - Birds Eye studiously ignored them Grin

SandyDrawsBadly · 30/01/2019 00:18

Eeeeeevil Mumsnetters
