Thanks to Rose of Dawn on Twitter for this, and apologies that it's so small.

I have a couple of other screenshots but they wouldn't attach. Hopefully you get the gist.

I'm calling it the Bradley effect Grin

Eden Ladley(NUS LGBT+ Women's place officer) & Jess Bradley with Lily Madigan appeared on Young Labour panel just before JB's suspension, discussing 'trans misogyny'

Defunding of NUS Trans campaign
Floisme · 21/01/2019 13:31

Personally I don't have a problem with the idea of a trans officer. I certainly think it makes a lot more sense than having a transwoman as a women's officer.

But try as I might, I can't stop wondering what's come out of the Bradley investigation and whether it's connected to their deleting the post. And I'm not going to stop wondering until when or if they tell us what they've found.

I like this comment on Rose of Dawn's twitter feed. They solved Watergate by getting rid of the Presidency.

R0wantrees · 21/01/2019 13:34

that statement is deranged. Kids don't access support because of transphobic parents? Have they heard of safeguarding?

NUS will be another organisation identified as not having sufficient understanding of Safeguarding and appropriate policies.

Its a systemic failure.

See recent reports about Green Party and Oxfam:

Oxfam

Green Party

There are increasing numbers of failures/failings in the Safeguarding and Child Protection frameworks:

Thanks Popchyk ti was too small for my perimenopausal eyes to read!

Another flawed argument made by Shakira Martin, Chair of the Board is that trans students will be represented by the NUS LGBT+ Campaign. It is surprising that this is a point raised without any conversation with the current LGBT+ officers

...a bit like proposing changes to the GRA that will have an impact on women, without actually having consultations with women's groups, don't you think?

Trans campaigners are represented on the LGBT+ and Women's Campaign.

OlennasWimple · 21/01/2019 13:46

I don't have a problem with a trans officer either. Or for a trans person to hold another position, such as president, treasurer, campaigns manager etc

But I have a big fucking problem with transwomen taking a place nominated for women and / or a transwoman taking a place nominated for lesbians. And I would put good money on the fact that the NUS are cutting the post simply to try to solve the Bradley problem

R0wantrees · 21/01/2019 13:49

NUS are in significant financial difficulties.

Floisme · 21/01/2019 13:54

I know about the financial difficulties - have they deleted any other posts?

If they'd either reinstated Bradley or recruited someone else to the post, they would presumably have been expected to explain why.

Ereshkigal · 21/01/2019 13:55

That Pride video will never stop being hilarious Grin

Popchyk · 21/01/2019 13:56

The NUS is facing bankruptcy.

www.oxfordstudent.com/2018/11/16/controversy-as-the-national-union-of-students-faces-bankruptcy/

This will be part of a range of measures to cut costs.

Note from the first paragraph of the letter:

"On January 16th it was formally confirmed that the NUS UK Board has proposed to defund the NUS Trans Officer and Committee for the 2019-2020 period at a minimum, alongside other changes to NUS’ democracy".

Does this mean that Bradley is still actually getting paid until they get rid of the post in the 2019-2020 academic year?

Badstyley · 21/01/2019 13:57

Sorry, did I just read that TRAs are unhappy about a decision made without their input? Oh the irony...

I wonder what they’ve uncovered about JB? Bet they won’t tell us.

Floisme · 21/01/2019 13:59

And more to the point, if the investigation is never published, where will Bradley end up next?

PencilsInSpace · 21/01/2019 14:02

Here's the ATH allegations:

Thanks for the video of Jess Bradley's unfortunate collision with the pipe band R0, that never gets old Grin

That's my view also. I was part of of a team back in 1999 that wrote a trans inclusion policy and guidance for an organisation employing over 10,000 people that became an industry template.

I'm not new to this and I resent being dismissed by TRAs who were barely weaned when I was supporting people retaining their employment during meaningful transition.

R0wantrees · 21/01/2019 14:05

Weezol apologiesfor cross post. I was replying to Pencils rather than your post.

GahWhatever · 21/01/2019 14:16

Noon stated back in September that he was concentrating on training courses on direct action aimed at TRAs. So Noon has already been doing Trans officer stuff as part of his LGBT+ role.

ReflectentMonatomism · 21/01/2019 14:16

Given that many of these young people will enter NUS-affiliated institutions, the trans student population is probably the fastest growing in NUS’ individual membership

Bollocks. Asian women, both home (Pakistani / Bangladeshi heritage) and overseas (Chinese and South East Asian) will be numerically the biggest increase, I suspect. That a tiny, tiny minority has increased 25x (itself something which should spark curiosity if not concern, rather than triumphalism) is hardly a major shift in the power balance. That, for example, traditionally alcohol fuelled events and organisations are having to deal with cultural groups which don’t drink as much / at all is having a much larger effect, as are the unique welfare issues which confront them.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 21/01/2019 14:19

Didn't Jess* Bradley say that Shakira Martin had been bullying JB?

I don't know anything about Shakira, but I'm wondering if she's finally had enough of this shite.

ReflectentMonatomism · 21/01/2019 14:23

I suspect a working class black woman has had more than enough of being actually discriminated against, but actual racists and actual misogynists.

OrchidInTheSun · 21/01/2019 14:26

Noon has nothing about lesbians or gays in their twitter feed either. If I were an LG or B student at the moment, I'd be seriously hacked off.

Popchyk · 21/01/2019 14:27

Yes, there is history there.

JB did accuse Shakira Martin of bullying. Didn't work. Martin was re-elected president of the NUS soon afterwards.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5340529/NUS-president-accused-bullying.html

"NUS trans liberation officer Jess Bradley wrote on Facebook: 'This string of complaints about Shakira’s bullying behaviour towards fellow officers and people in the movement has drawn this crisis in NUS into sharp focus for me.

'I can honestly say that becoming an NUS Officer often results in a sharp decline in mental health, and this hostility from the President is only making things worse."

Weezol · 21/01/2019 14:29

R0 I assumed as much - what's not to love about a pipe band TRA convergence?

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 21/01/2019 14:42

Just found this from Rob Noon on the NUS pages:

Hey! My name's Rob, I'm one of your LGBT+ officers and a general queer troublemaker. [...] I'll also be distributing LGB and particularly trans competent sexual health resources and training to unions, with a focus on drug use and chemsex. <a class="break-all" href="https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:uj_ihLdmOEcJ:www.nusconnect.org.uk/elected-officers/lgbt-officer-open-place+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk]" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">link

Hmm

"Rob" is apparently a female who identifies as a male (masc?) non-binary person Confused and uses they/them pronouns.

Eden Ladley (the Male transwoman who has filled the role for women) uses she/her and "xe/xem/xyr" pronouns.

Give me fucking strength!
