Just looking at the T-shirts available, badday, do you think they would have made the same fuss if you'd worn the lesbian: female homosexual one?

Or would a man be asked to leave if he wore the one which said man: adult human male?

Are rainbow/Pride T-shirts allowed?

R0wantrees · 06/01/2019 10:23

It would be great to read this pub's Safeguarding Policy.

I am presuming that there is more than one 'offensive ideology' that has been identified as this is their safeguarding prioritiy and that all staff have been trained to identify these act appropriately actions to minimise the risk to other staff and customers.

Seems likely there would be risk assessments which have informed the policy.
Hmm

drinkswineoutofamug · 06/01/2019 10:27

Safeguarding seems to be a word loosely thrown around by some people these days.
Safeguarding I was lead to believe is for children, and the elderly. Signs of abuse etc. Not for people who are prats and are offenders by the truth. Which leads me to this

& vulnerable adults. Not age restricted.

drinkswineoutofamug · 06/01/2019 10:29

R0wantrees I may go and ask when in town next week. But I may be wearing an offensive tshirt .....

drinkswineoutofamug · 06/01/2019 10:30

Sorry for got the vulnerable adult 😬 need to brush up on my policies.

hackmum · 06/01/2019 10:34

Sanchez Manning has done some brilliant articles on this - I predict great things ahead.

Interesting to see only five comments, but they've each had thousands of likes. Comments are premoderated so I expect the mods have been overwhelmed by a sea of comments and have just given up.

DodoPatrol · 06/01/2019 10:37

Ah. Did it upset the complainant because they are an adult female who has transitioned to male, and thus disagree with the definition? (I am personally crap at telling moustachioed females from actual boyish/chubby males in still photos, without the clues of gait, voice, size etc.)

R0wantrees · 06/01/2019 10:37

Is Five Clouds Taphouse potentially missing out by not marketing more clearly its USP as an 'ideologically safe' pub?

Just as many might decide not to drink there, I'm sure there will be some attracted by such a promise & this might open a new range of possible craft beer names too for its brewery.

teawamutu · 06/01/2019 10:40

drinkswineoutofamug that cartoon is great. If only we could change 'teenager' to 'beardy wokebro'.

terryleather · 06/01/2019 10:41

On seeing the photos I was wondered the same thing myself...

Popchyk · 06/01/2019 10:45

Good article.

Gets the message out there.

Interesting that the brewery don't actually state exactly why they barred her. Should be very easy for them.

I'll start it for them...

"The T-shirt is unacceptable on our premises because..."

TransposersArePosers · 06/01/2019 11:06

Would badday have been thrown out invited to leave if she had been wearing a man definition top, I wonder?

R0wantrees · 06/01/2019 11:16

These are availlable. I've seen men (adult human males) wearing them.

nauticant · 06/01/2019 11:16

Although Mika Johnson didn't seem to contribute to the piece in the Mail, perhaps this is his/her/their/xir/zir/hir work elsewhere:

papayasareyum · 06/01/2019 11:18

he cried over a T-shirt? Jesus wept.

TimeLady · 06/01/2019 11:20

There's a doppelganger makeup artist who goes by the same name.

pollyname · 06/01/2019 11:23

I'm assuming that TRA are furiously writing to OUP, Collins and the like to have the definition changed sigh

The bar for 'transphobia' is so incredibly low....

Popchyk · 06/01/2019 11:23

Shame I'm not local to Macclesfield.

Is anybody planning a trip?

Be interesting if someone wearing that same T-shirt does not get asked to leave. Because then it looks like discrimination against the first T-shirt wearer. I'm sure the brewery will be able to explain why that is.

And if the brewery asks everyone who wears that T-shirt to leave then they can certainly explain their reasons for doing so.

It is cold though. So maybe a long-sleeved top underneath would be more appropriate in this weather. As modelled very stylishly in the article.

MadamBatty · 06/01/2019 11:26

I’d love a big group of men to go to that place wearing woman tee shirts to see the reaction.

TransposersArePosers · 06/01/2019 11:29

I've seen a picture of the gorgeous Fionne Orlander wearing a man definition one.
But I wondered whether a woman wearing a man definition would be accused of promoting unacceptable ideology? Or a man wearing a woman definition? I think what I am trying to get at is - was badday thrown out because she is of the female sex and wearing that top? I suspect that that is the problem, rather than the top itself if you see what I mean?

baddaytoquitsmoking · 06/01/2019 11:44

Morning! This is a fantastic thread to read, thanks for the solidarity everyone.

We held an impromptu feminist meeting last night in a pub nearby - I was wearing the lesbian definition tshirt. Staff there bloody loved it, I was given many hugs and compliments and everything was rosy.

I'm SO glad I refused to do the DM sad face. Dude was trying his damnedest to make me do it.

There's more to follow! Watch this space.

Yes, that struck me too. Unless they are of our lovely doctor friend's ilk, I can't think of many gay men I know who would actively go and complain about this if they just saw it about. Certainly not be reduced to tears, and it does look as if sitting next to the person concerned wearing it and saying "alright?" was taken as a deliberate challenge.

Datun · 06/01/2019 11:50

Well that's a bit of interesting inside information. So people manipulated into doing the sad face.

You look triumphant and committed. It's a brilliant pic.
