And he did it with the most derogatory angry expression on his face.

For anyone who is about to lambast #Corbyn for allegedly mouthing “stupid woman” about May at #pmqs, let’s have a bit of perspective: the Tories reinstated the whip so two misogynist sex pests could vote in the Tory no confidence vote. The tories are a party of sexists + bigots

I think that shows the true tribal nature of some of his supporters, condemnation of the language is not an aprroval of May Disdain for smug hypocrites is something that unites nearly all of us.

Anyone who doubles down on defending Corbyn while policing equivalent language that their political opponents use is helpfully exposing himself or herself as a tribalistic idiot who cares more about point-scoring than principles.

Usernumbers1234 · 19/12/2018 15:24

@starcrossed

Absolutely, that’s what it’s become. Politics used to be about forming your own views on a range of issues and seeing if they aligned nicely with a party.

Now it’s just your team and my team. Thread on here a few weeks back where someone was screaming “fuck the Tories”

Three pages later the same poster asked “who are the conservatives”

It’s just Facebook politics for idiots.

Yep

She was hardly pleasant to the opposition prior to this - if anyone has watched her whole speech.

I am in two minds - it can be read as women or people. But the press will no doubt go with women

AdamNichol · 19/12/2018 15:27

Does it though? I've muttered "stupid woman" under my breath as much as I've muttered "stupid man". (both usually when driving). I don't think I'm a misogynist though.

When driving - ie: when just been wound up by something, reach for a phrase, don't give it any further meaning. Your phrases are just a bit less profane.
Or perhaps those are phrases that simply absorbed into your psyche like all manner of casual sexism things do; happens to us all until someone points it out.....

starcrossedseahorse · 19/12/2018 15:27

User I missed that! Not surprised though, it is a grim state of affairs.

Usernumbers1234 · 19/12/2018 15:27

Purplesky - top of page 8. Watch that clip and tell me you don’t see woman. It’s so obvious it may as well have the sound up.

Bejazzled · 19/12/2018 15:28

you don't need to be so prickly really.

I don't think it's being prickly to explain my actual words but ok if that's what you want to think

Have you ever watched PMQs before?!

starcrossedseahorse · 19/12/2018 15:29

And he said 'woman'.

derxa · 19/12/2018 15:30

Whatever happened to his 'kinder gentler politics'?

MattFreisCheekyDimples · 19/12/2018 15:30

My point is that Andrew Neil's a sexist pig himself. It was just a side comment really, not directed at you at all, OP.

Bejazzled · 19/12/2018 15:31

But the press will no doubt go with women

woman is what he said - as confirmed by actual lip readers. So of course the press will report that as it's the truth.

OP posts:
AdamNichol · 19/12/2018 15:32

I can't tell if it's people or woman. One clip looks like its definitely one, another that it's definitely the other.
Sound off looks more like woman.
Sound on looks more like people - and actually that fits with the context of piece - May signed off her comment with '[Back benches behind you] They are not impressed'. "They" all start cheering/jeering. Corbyn mutters stupid {woman/people?}.

It's a good distraction for May, though; who was in the midst of chastising her opponent for saying he was going to call a vote and then cancelling it. Lack of leadership apparently. And a memory that doesn't go back as far as last week.
Maybe he did say woman.

NamedyChangedy · 19/12/2018 15:34

Politics aside, could someone please explain what a better alternative would have been? Just for sake of argument if TM really was exhibiting a lack of intelligence, should he have said 'stupid person' instead? Is the issue that he used the word 'woman', or that he called her stupid? I'm genuinely confused by this.

Pieceofpurplesky · 19/12/2018 15:34

User I have watched it a few times and can see it as both.

Star crossed** Yes many times. Many worse things have been said. Stupid woman/stupid man whatever - it doesn't strike me as misogyny sorry. I am a woman. Happy to be called one. Though not stupid which is what I would take offence to.

Pieceofpurplesky · 19/12/2018 15:36

Well @Bejazzled that'll be a first if they tell the truth. There are also lots of people who see 'people'. I can see both like several other posters. As I said man/woman I can't take offence to - stupid though ....

PreseaCombatir · 19/12/2018 15:40

They’ll edit it to make it look like he said people. Guaranteed. Just like that video with the Obama impersonator, saying you can no longer believe what you see and hear...

impossiblecat · 19/12/2018 15:42

This is distraction politics at it's best. It really is.

Who gives a shit if he said it or not? The gov is making plans to bring the army in for Brexit. Austerity is killing people....

Yet this is what people care about...

starcrossedseahorse · 19/12/2018 15:43

Well he has just doubled down on his lie. What a surprise.

starcrossedseahorse · 19/12/2018 15:43

Glad that women MPs are calling him on it.

ABCagain · 19/12/2018 15:44

Impossiblecat, my sentiments exactly.

bellinisurge · 19/12/2018 15:44

It's the hypocrisy of correct speak spouted by his minions that makes this so galling.

AdamNichol · 19/12/2018 15:44

Is the issue that he used the word 'woman', or that he called her stupid? I'm genuinely confused by this

It's that he used a phrase associated with misogynist put downs.

Politics aside, could someone please explain what a better alternative would have been?

To have called her out on the specifics of what was stupid, not just deriding a person as being stupid. There is a massive difference between these; and the latter whether woman/people/bitch is all a violation of parliamentary conduct

CaveMum · 19/12/2018 15:44

It was reported on the Radio 2 news at 3pm that lip readers had said that they believe he said “woman”. When presented with this Corbyn’s spokesperson said “lip readingbis open to interpretation.” 🤔
