And he did it with the most derogatory angry expression on his face.

That is aside from the fact the leader of the opposition should not be calling the PM stupid

But it's fine for the Govt side to call Corbyn all kinds of objectionable names?

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 20/12/2018 22:30

I would jump for joy if Yvette Cooper was making a leadership pitch.

Me too.

MargueritaPink · 20/12/2018 23:10

I would (& did ) call Cameron & many of his merry crew "stupid man" - ditto B Johnson & others of the current batch of tossers - I'm prety sure Corbyn would too. You are projecting

As are you. I don't think "stupid man" is a natural usage- one might say"Cameron is a very stupid man- unfortunately "stupid woman" is , for some, natural usage.

What "objectionable names" have any members of the Government called Corbyn in the House?

MargueritaPink · 20/12/2018 23:14

I voted for her as leader in 2015. It was the last vote I cast for any Labour candidate in anything and likely to remain that way for a very long time.

endofthelinefinally · 21/12/2018 03:20

Yvette Cooper, Harriet Harman and Caroline Flint would be a good start for a new party.
I have nobody to vote for at the moment.Angry

LogicPlease · 21/12/2018 05:17

First of all, just because you see this person's expression as "derogatory" does not mean it is. You have no idea if this person is actually sexist.
Second of all, calling someone stupid who happens to be a different gender than you does not make you sexist. It makes you a person that views another person as stupid. That's fucking it.
My name is "LogicPlease" for a reason.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 21/12/2018 07:19

You have no idea if this person is actually sexist.

this person isn't some random stranger they are leader of her majesty opposition and has been an MP for decades. I am very aware if what he is like.

MissEliza · 21/12/2018 07:54

I think the context is important. TM hadn't said something incredibly stupid eg my deal will pass through parliament with no problem, she'd just got one up with him with some comment about his backbenchers so he muttered 'stupid woman' in anger, probably exacerbated by a woman putting him down.

ratchethandler · 21/12/2018 08:01

Not really, ratchet, given that you have said you are sure he lied but now accept that actually it's a matter of opinion.

Yes, I'm sure, as in : It is in my opinion that he said "woman". Not all lip readers agree and I am not a lip reader. I was responding to someone who was suggesting that we all ought to be quiet and stop speculating as one lip reader had given us their personal interpretation. It's not as if I care particularly whether he said "woman", "people", "person," "bint", "bitch" anyway and I accept that I might be wrong. But I do not think I am.

What I don't accept though is his Corbyn's refusal to apologise for using uncivilised, unparliamentary language. Had he done - that would probably have been the end of the matter. But he won't because he's a stubborn, idiot with a history of lying when confronted with his past behaviour, as I believe I've proven.

I also take issue with the hypocrisy of Labour party members who went berserk when Cameron teased Angela Eagle with his condescending "calm down, dear" remark, but are silent on this....

BertrandRussell · 21/12/2018 08:11

“But he won't because he's a stubborn, idiot with a history of lying when confronted with his past behaviour, as I believe I've proven.“

You haven’t, you know. And you also didn’t say that in your opinion he said “woman”. You said that he definitely did.

And there is a huge difference between a calculated mocking remark made publicly, like Cameron’s “Calm down dear” and an exasperated mutter, caught by chance on camera.

But anyway, if it helps clear the way for Yvette Cooper or Kier Starmer......

birdsdestiny · 21/12/2018 08:46

Sorry Bert I don't agree, I think the words you use when cross are very telling. He was cross because he hates being mocked, and particularly by women.

GiantKitten · 21/12/2018 10:27

she'd just got one up with him with some comment about his backbenchers so he muttered 'stupid woman' in anger, probably exacerbated by a woman putting him down

“a woman putting him down”? She tries to put him down every PMQ - I think he can take it! But she reduced the Brexit argument to a bit of (pre-written 🙄) panto dialogue & her side all reacted like a panto audience. That was pretty stupid, even by Commons standards.

AnOtherNomdePlume · 21/12/2018 10:29

The panto bit was stupid imo.

May shouldn't do humour, it doesn't suit her personality and it doesn't come off imho.

ratchethandler · 21/12/2018 10:44

The reason I'm so sure, is that he looks like he said "Stupid Woman".. And he has a history of lying.

Whether he said "people" or "woman", [I believe it was woman]

These were my exact words. If someone claims they're 'certain' of something and they do not cite sources.sources to back up their claims, then it's quite obvious they're expressing an opinion. As I was.

It's interesting how you feel it necessary to take issue with my every word on this, but fail to respond to the points I put to you about Corbyn's history of lying..

Will you now do so....? Preferably with cited sources?

Bliss3333 · 21/12/2018 10:53

This was an interpretation by a lip reader. I saw it as 'stupid people'.

No one overheard him, so it is speculation and he denies it.

If you want to argue with me, go to the mirror and mouth 'I love you'. Now mouth 'elephant juice'. They look exactly the same to a lip reader. It is hardly an exact science.

littlebillie · 21/12/2018 10:54

Telegraph - "There can’t be many 118-year-old institutions remaining in Britain which, despite loudly trumpeting messages of equality, have never had a woman at the helm - and don’t seem to be in a hurry to change.

Welcome to the Labour party in 2018, folks."

LizzieSiddal · 21/12/2018 11:42

Ive a suspicion, TM’s speech writers are getting inspiration from Private Eye, Grin

I just found last weeks Private Eye at home. The front page is a “it’s the Panto season, oh no it isn’t” sketch.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 21/12/2018 11:48

TM does actually make quite a convincing pantomime villain at 0.25 speed ...

AntiSocialInjusticePacifist · 21/12/2018 13:24

It’s no great secret that accusations of misogyny are applied disproportionately to smear those on the right. It comes as no great surprise there are so many willing to come rushing to Corbyn’s defense.

Note the disparity between Jess Phillips’s comments regarding former Defense Secretary for touching a reporters thigh, and her friend Brendan Cox when he had pushed women up against walls with hands around their throats.

If you’ll notice Andrea Leadsom used the opportunity to raise again when John Bercow (who has been a Conservative MP) called her a stupid woman. So they can hardly be accused of being partisan on the issue.

Too often those talk the talk when it comes to the treatment of women, but it all magically disappears when it comes to defending one of their own...

MissEliza · 21/12/2018 14:15

I agree the panto bit was cringeworthy and definitely pre written. Unfortunately a side effect of televising PMQs is that politicians and party aides know they need to provide witty sound bites for the evening news.

ratchethandler · 21/12/2018 15:09

It's awful I agree MissEliza.. Such a waste of time, money and opportunity - all of the pathetic, stage managed pantomime parliamentarians go through for their own entertainment. I'm sure I'm not alone in wishing that these people would get on with the job of running the country efficiently and effectively. Rather than indulging in this idiotic theatre of fake laughter, bluster, shouting and finger pointing. I believe the only people who enjoy it is them, the public certainly don't seem to. I seem to remember Greg Dyke saying he believed the HOC as is, ought to be closed down and politics moved to a much less ostentatious, modern building, where they could work with a minimum of wasted effort and expense? I think he had something there..

AntiSocialInjusticePacifist
You make some good points. As I've said before [sorry to repeat], I believe there is no shitty behaviour that Corbyn could indulge in that his acolytes won't defend. Personally, I’d rather see him roasted for being a 'friend' to Middle Eastern, jew-murdering terrorists org's. Encouraging antisemitism in his party. And for being a prov-IRA-supporting, liar, rather than uttering a throwaway comment about Theresa May.

After all, a man who got two "E"s on his A levels, dropped out of the Polytechnic of North London, has never made a penny in any commercial activity in his entire adult life, who made that unbelievably thick "one letterbox" comment, and has grown to his current age believing marxism could work, has no right calling anyone "stupid".

LizzieSiddal · 21/12/2018 15:17

Here’s the cover, published on the 14th. Speech writers are obviously desperate for ideas.

Jeremy Corbyn just called Theresa May "stupid woman"

Great post rachet!

MargueritaPink · 21/12/2018 16:29

ratchethandler you might like this. It is brilliant on what is wrong with Corbyn.

MissEliza · 21/12/2018 17:09

Lizzie when I heard that comment, I immediately thought of that cover.
