And he did it with the most derogatory angry expression on his face.

impossible believe it or not, it is possible to care about more than one thing at once.

AdamNichol · 19/12/2018 15:47

This is distraction politics at it's best. It really is. Who gives a shit if he said it or not? The gov is making plans to bring the army in for Brexit. Austerity is killing people....Yet this is what people care about...

It's not mutually exclusive. We can critique policy and be vigilant for examples of prejudice-derived behaviour from our 'leaders' at the same time.
No one died because they were called a stupid woman. Doesn't make it ok though.

impossiblecat · 19/12/2018 15:49

That's not how distraction politics works, @starcrossedseahorse.

That is what is happening. I'm a proper, old fashioned feminist and I can see that.

The older you get, the more pragmatic you get.

This is a storm in a very large and distracting teacup.

happydappy2 · 19/12/2018 15:50

For me the look of pure hatred on his face after May had ridiculed him, was far more offensive.

impossiblecat · 19/12/2018 15:50

It is very, very mutually exclusive actually.

VickyEadie · 19/12/2018 15:50

It's the hypocrisy of correct speak spouted by his minions that makes this so galling.

Indeed. We're having our speech policed on a daily basis by Corbynistas.

CriticalCondition · 19/12/2018 15:53

It's clearly 'woman' not 'people'. To make a 'W' sound the lips are pursed and parted, as if about to whistle. To make a 'P' sound the lips are closed. Try it.

Corbyn's lips are closed.

I'm not a lipreader. But I do have eyes in my head.

impossiblecat · 19/12/2018 15:53

Ha ha! @happydappy2

Just as well you can't see mine. I hold that woman and all her party stand for personally responsible for a family down the road from me going to a food bank two days ago.

Invisible1234 · 19/12/2018 15:55

Considering we have people dying on our streets...I would call her worse than that!

Justanotherlurker · 19/12/2018 15:57

It's the hypocrisy of correct speak spouted by his minions that makes this so galling.

Exactly, its the uttermost hypocrisy at play, people cannot complain if the same language policing is being used against them.

Optics matter.

impossiblecat · 19/12/2018 15:58

Exactly@Invisible1234

All of that has been described as stuff that will be washed away and someone is now offended by his facial expression.

Jesus Fucking Christ, we are totally and utterly shafted if that is the state of things.

starcrossedseahorse · 19/12/2018 15:58

Yes because is we call out JC on lying to the HoC we are also pro homeless people dying and families being forced to use food banks.

Got it.

AdamNichol · 19/12/2018 15:58

That's not how distraction politics works

Distraction politics is when the status quo deflect attention to trivial / symbolic matters to avoid awkward policy debate or the spotlight on something they are trying to gloss over.
It's more established in the US with image issues - Obama not putting hand over heart during pledge of allegiance, or not wearing the right flag pin on his jacket (memory a bit rusty now).
We got a bit of it with Corbyn and the poppy, Boris looks a mess, etc.
But, a slip by a party leader that is indicative of a deep set prejudice is not a symbolic / trivial thing

impossiblecat · 19/12/2018 15:59

Actually that's exactly right @starcrossedseahorse

You buy into this playground bullshit so yes, you become part of the problem.

Justanotherlurker · 19/12/2018 16:01

Corbynistas are on the defensive, almost like a checklist, even distraction politics now.

Some people are really so embedded into their tribal gang.

Invisible1234 · 19/12/2018 16:02

"You stupid woman" was made popular in Allo Allo! Phrases from shows you watch, stick in the mind.

Usernumbers1234 · 19/12/2018 16:02

Impossiblecat

I’ve noted your work around the forums before, but you seem to have elevated your game to whole new level of bullshit on this one.

Believeitornot · 19/12/2018 16:04

The House of Commons is full of braying sexist idiots. They throw insults towards each other - the whole place is an absolute disgrace!

So I’m not surprised to be honest. It’s just more awful crap in a long line of shit

starcrossedseahorse · 19/12/2018 16:04

What utter crap impossible.

I do not consider calling out misogyny 'playground bullshit' and let's face it, JC has form.

To suggest that I support homeless people dying and families using foodbanks is beneath contempt.

Justanotherlurker · 19/12/2018 16:04

I mean read the comments on this from 2013

www.theguardian.com/politics/2013/jul/10/william-hague-stupid-woman-remark

The same criticisms and defence bu tthe sides switched.

It's always depressing when you realise how little of it all is genuinely about right versus wrong, but instead about my side versus your side.

Some Corbynistas on here will still think it is only Conservatives or critics who or playing the game.

impossiblecat · 19/12/2018 16:04

No, I just food on peoples tables that they didn't have to beg for.

Don't give a shit about agendas, tribes or other such bollocks. This isn't a game where the winner is the nicest person.

starcrossedseahorse · 19/12/2018 16:05

It is embarrassing tbh.

starcrossedseahorse · 19/12/2018 16:06

impossible sorry, you have lost me.

impossiblecat · 19/12/2018 16:06

You're not calling out misogyny though. You're playing bollocks party politics.

CritEqual · 19/12/2018 16:06

Oh fuck this is terrible! I've been voting conservative the last few elections, and actually there is quite a large contigent of very sexist miogynists on the left that this whole debacle is going to play VERY well well with them. After all it worked for Trump! :(

I'm actually convinced this issue is too important to be for us to be anything other than bipartisan on. Sexism exists across the political spectrum, and it need to be dealt with whenever it occurs. The place of 50% of the nations population is arguably MORE important than Brexit.
