And he did it with the most derogatory angry expression on his face.

Universal credit, austerity, zero hours contracts and a total decimation of any social justice we had in this country. Most of this disproportionately affects women!

And we are going mad because someone may have called the PM “stupid”.

Dear lord no wonder the country has gone to shit . We truly get the Govt we deserve and ....and many of you voted for it.

Sorry but if he didn’t call her a “stupid woman” he should have done. She can’t see more than five feet in front of her own nose and certainly cannot see the damage her party has done,

I hate JC with a passion...he does eff all to provide an opposition (and every Govt needs one of these) but if he called her “stupid woman” then so what? Plenty of you jumped straight in the bandwagon and called him a “stupid man”.

SillySallySingsSongs · 19/12/2018 14:19

Would it have been acceptable if Corbyn had called her a "childish woman"? Because I can't think of anything much more childish than putting on a pantomime act in response to a national crisis.

Well Corbyn is hardly a paragon of virtue over it is he? Caling ridiculous motions he knows he will lose or theg will ignore.

BollocksToBrexit · 19/12/2018 14:20

I'm surprised that that's all he said. I would have called her much worse.

starcrossedseahorse · 19/12/2018 14:20

Plus he is now lying about it. Utterly vile.

onefootinthegrave · 19/12/2018 14:20

I think he said stupid woman, and he's not wrong.

Everyone saying he's misogynistic makes me want to laugh. I think Theresa May shows she hates women a lot more than JC does. She is the leader of a party whose austerity cuts mainly affect women - 87% of them directly affect us. So she's not just stupid, she's head of the tories who are implementing policies that mean more and more mothers are having to go into prostitution to feed their kids.

JC on the other hand is opposed to austerity, so he's bang on the money when he calls her a stupid woman, he should have added dangerous too.

BishBoshBashBop · 19/12/2018 14:21

Dear lord no wonder the country has gone to shit . We truly get the Govt we deserve and ....and many of you voted for it.

Did many posters on this thread vote Tory? Any proof of that or is it it just a stupid comment?

VickyEadie · 19/12/2018 14:21

The leader of a party that has never elected a woman as its leader calls the second woman to lead the Conservative party a "stupid woman".

Now, you'd have to put a gun to my head to ever get me to vote Tory - but I can see something of an irony in the apparently very 'socialist' Corbyn's behaviour.

Usernumbers1234 · 19/12/2018 14:22

@impossiblecat

Again - he said it on live national TV. There was already a thread in the politics part of mumsnet that said “did he just call her a stupid woman” long before the Tory Mp said anything to the house.

And it was exactly the same on social media and a thousand and one other forums.

Your man Jeremy, on national television, with a camera pointed at him, full screen, said “you stupid woman” and everyone reacted immediately.

He lit the touchpaper, nobody else.

But that won’t fit your many agendas will it.......

starcrossedseahorse · 19/12/2018 14:22

Also it's great to see (on a feminist board) women clamouring to join in and call Theresa May stupid. Way to miss the fucking point. Confused

BollocksToBrexit · 19/12/2018 14:23

JC on the other hand is opposed to austerity, so he's bang on the money when he calls her a stupid woman, he should have added dangerous too.

and nebulous. That seems to be her trigger word.

Woodward12 · 19/12/2018 14:23

Looks like he said 'people' to me.

The immature baying of the people sat behind TM is what really makes me feel sick though.

Usernumbers1234 · 19/12/2018 14:24

@woodward12

And nobody sat behind corbyn ever bayed did they......

DioVelazquez · 19/12/2018 14:24

So what should he have called her? Stupid person? Stupid prick?

AdamNichol · 19/12/2018 14:24

I don't see 'stupid woman' as worse than 'stupid man', but accept I may be in the minority.

It's an odd thing to try and explain. The words are the same, but one connotes far more than the other.
To my mind, stupid man is a personal insult. Stupid woman is loaded with a patriarchal sense of a woman demonstrating the ineptitude of women when trying to achieve parity with men. It's less you stupid individual woman and more you stupid representation of your lesser sex [Please note, I'm trying to articulate a patriarchal view, not my own!!!!]. To call someone a stupid woman is akin to considering the successful black person to be an uppity n**ger - it's fuelled by a whole history of oppression.

Justanotherlurker · 19/12/2018 14:25

The Tories have ran out of ideas so they do this

It wasn't a tory who leaked it, it went around twitter from people watching the live stream, a lot of people have deleted supportive or excused tweets as they have shown themselves to be hypocrites after they was calling IDS out for bad optics.

Bejazzled · 19/12/2018 14:26

he was calling her a stupid woman with a horrible sneer on his face because he is a sexist pig and it is a put down used especially for older women by pathetic misogynistic men

This x100
It's not about politics although of course momentum et al are spinning it that way. It's a nasty put down of a woman.

I hope the female MPs in Labour/SNP/Lib Dem who are so vocal about equality are strong enough to condemn him for this.

OP posts:
starcrossedseahorse · 19/12/2018 14:26

There is no way on earth that he said 'people'. It is obvious what he said but also obvious that certain people will refuse to see it because they are blinded by the magic of Corbyn.

hackmum · 19/12/2018 14:26

I don't defend him using a term like "stupid woman" but I am prepared to give him a bit of leeway on the basis that a) he was exasperated b) he said it sotto voce, not to her face and c) the House of Commons is already full of people behaving like a bunch of six year olds shouting at each other and making animal noises.

I am forever shouting insults like "stupid man/stupid woman/effing idiot/moronic wanker' at the radio.

DioVelazquez · 19/12/2018 14:27

I'm neutral on all British politicians, and I'm not a professional lip-reader, but I don't think it's obvious that he said woman. I'm watching it now and it could be either. I think it looks slightly more like people but it's hard to tell.

TheWifeofRequirement · 19/12/2018 14:28

Presumably the people who see nothing wrong with this would also have no issue with someone being called a ‘stupid Muslim bitch’ or a stupid black bastard

Not even remotely the same thing. For a start, ‘woman’ is not a derogatory term like ‘bitch’ or ‘bastard’. To infer that it is is MASSIVELY offensive.

I am no Corbyn fan at all, genuinely dislike the guy so to accuse anyone who disagrees with you on this as ‘corbynista’ Is laughable.

I’m frustrated that there was much bigger issues at PMQ’s today that now won’t get press coverage because of this assumed slight. It does nothing for the furthering of feminism because when things like this hit the press, invariably the narrative is ‘women are offended over semantics’ which is a much better story; people love to portray feminists as hysterical man haters and this just gives that air time.

I am a feminist and I am not in the least offended by his use of language here. I’m offended by him and his policies, but in the context of PMQ’s, May’s behaviour and the issues in play at the moment, this is damaging no one but feminists.

Bejazzled · 19/12/2018 14:28

The lies from Labour to deflect and cover it up are sickening actually.

OP posts:
ajandjjmum · 19/12/2018 14:28

I'm not a lip reader either, but he clearly said 'woman' imho.

headstone · 19/12/2018 14:28

I can’t see the big deal but there is always a disproportionate reaction to anything Corbyn does or says that is not 100 percent PC. Surely calling Corbyn a twat is more mysogynistic . Why not call him a dick?
As usual there are far more important things going on in politics atm and this is another stupid distraction.

MayYourBrexitbeMerryandBright · 19/12/2018 14:28

She is a very stupid woman.

And the irony of Andrew Neil acting shocked given what he has tweeted about Carole Cadwalladr - none that was misogynistic.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 19/12/2018 14:31

It carries misogynistic connotations, undoubtedly.
