At first I was delighted to see thisat last a big name in women's sport is speaking up! but then I got angry all over again that this utterly obvious point has to be explained to an adult, in this case, a Guardian journalist. It boggles the mind.

I just inspired myself to research and I think I can answer my own question! For anyone else wondering, I think it must be to do with "carrying angle" - women's elbows open out wider than men's. I just experimented with opening a door while restricting my range of elbow motion, and can confirm it could easily lead to painful boob accidents.

This isn't as completely unrelated to the thread as I had thought, as it turns out that carrying angle is yet another source of difference in men's and women's sports performances.

Anyway, I'm so glad Martina is standing up to this awful bully. I wonder if Alastair McGowan has realised yet what sort of person he gave a platform to.

Its been asked many times, so too comments under the line in Daily Mail articles, other sites where posters are mostly males.

The threat of transphobic physical attack and open transphobis comments comes most commonly from males who often also hold homophobic and racist views.

Why is the focus on silencing feminists?

Oh god, I just went to look at that KiwiFarms thread and learned that McKinnon's PhD dissertation was called Reasonable Assertions: On Norms of Assertion and Why You Don't Need to Know What You're Talking About and now I'm laughing so hard I can't breathe.

I can only assume that RM didn't know who Martina was. It's the only way to explain the very embarrassing own goal of having a go at an International sporting legend on Twitter, in defence of an indefensible ideology

McKinnon is truly a nasty piece of work.

And that PhD... Telling the world they believe in lying and manipulating and trying to legitimise that, and it is also a sort of stealth boast. The old cliche of the narcissist needing to tell everyone how special and clever they are, even if ultimately the gloating and revelations will be (ought to be) their undoing. Text book stuff. "Don't you know who I am" sheesh.

If anyone had any doubt about the serious mental health disorders and dangerous manipulations driving this extremism, the evidence is right here.

That makes sense TBH as it was such an odd response.

I think it's fair to say that Rachel considers themself to be a world famous sportsperson, to the point that people like Martina should know who they are, maybe as peers? In sport - when it comes to LGB+ matters Rachel is obviously FAR more expert than Martina, one of sports most famous lesbians who came out to the world decades ago. I just googled > 1981. Back then it was way more of a deal. She was inspirational. Still is, to so many girls and women.

McKinnon may be too young to have lived side-by-side with Martina's breathtaking career. Plus self obsession doesn't leave an awful lot room for other people's sporting achievements. Particularly if they're older, female and gay.
