" Big businesses helped kill the Texas bathroom bill two years ago, targeting it as discriminatory and unnecessary.

They said the legislation, which would have required Texans to use the restrooms that match their sex at birth, would have hampered efforts to woo new companies to the state and turned off convention planners and sports leagues looking at venues for events.

Now, some companies are doubling down on that commitment, citing diversity and inclusivity as factors in their decisions. Apple made this clear Thursday, when it announced a $1 billion investment in the capital city.

The bathroom bill, or something like it, may be back when state lawmakers meet in 2019. But opponents of these restroom regulations say the business community will again give them the ammunition they need to shoot down such divisive legislation.

I hope these aren't Apple employees...

MRAs must get really good overtime rates these days.

Night Bowl who I am in unicorn land :)

Bowlofbabelfish · 15/12/2018 00:53

And there are studies to show that trans people's brains reflect that of the gender they identify as.

No there aren’t. The studies don’t show that at all. Firstly you can’t identify the sex of a brain by MRI scan. There are more differences within sex classes than between on average. So you can’t scan a brain and say ‘this is a female brain.’

What they’ve actually identified if anything (and it’s far from clear if the signal is even real) is a possible signal which may be associated with a number of other things, including depression, reduction in sense of self (differences in volume of the insula.)

The studies are dissected in more detail here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3196135-Scientists-please-gather-round

The reddit thread linked within has some valid critiques as well.

It's like trying to explain how banking works to your Labrador sometimes, isn't it?

HumberElla · 15/12/2018 00:55

ffs nobody here is a targetting individuals. We are discussing the ideology, self ID as a belief system.

HestiaParthenos · 15/12/2018 00:59

It's like trying to explain how banking works to your Labrador sometimes, isn't it?

I don't know, I think your Labrador would listen more attentively and be altogether more considerate and less mansplaining.

R0wantrees · 15/12/2018 01:02

Did Mr PJ leave just as the person shouting 'fascists' arrived?
Uncanny.

ffsnotagains · 15/12/2018 01:04

@HumberElla it's ignorant to imply that discussing the ideology doesn't effect individuals. Would you be saying that if discussing the 'ideology' of gay people? No because it isn't ok. Have you seen the murder rates for trans people. It's not affecting you it's affecting them and they're dying because of it. It's hate mongering and it's not ok people are literally dying because of it. Respect people's pronouns and leave it at that and go on and live happy lives and don't put any more energy into this prejudice that you're trying to talk your way out of...it's vile and shows a basic lack of respect for other human beings that don't fit in to your view of what's acceptable for a human in our society. Do something positive with your time because this is just encouraging violence and murder no matter how much you try and de validate what I'm saying it's true. The world isn't safe for trans people they live in constant fear of violence and murder and are abused and murdered a fuck of a lot. As do women but it's scarier for trans people in our society it's scary for them just to leave the house and it's because of fear and hate mongering like this in the name of having a friendly discussion. Stop spreading hate!!!

KindOfAGeek · 15/12/2018 01:05

I think your Labrador would listen more attentively and be altogether more considerate and less mansplaining.

Especially if it were a black lab. I love black labs.

I'm off to bake some pies (they won't be mince, and they won't have icing)

Xmas Grin

And I'm a woman with friends who are trans and they are women through and through! So are men who who are trans and they are fighting for your lives while you fight to strip their lives away from them. It is exactly what happens with the gay movement and you are the ones spreading fear hate and prejudice which leads to actual murder. Just respect people's identities and get on with your own lives.

ffsnotagains · 15/12/2018 01:12

Fighting for their lives and for basic human rights. The rights to be respected and not to live in fear.

Have you read the pinned information by Mumsnet.
There are specific guidelines for this board in order to try to enable civilised discussion.

Its not neccessary to @ people.
Most would ask that you don't.

You seem to be making a lot of allegations. Perhaps have a read of some threads first before shouting at everyone? It's quite late after all (well in the UK)

You may have read and heard all sorts of things about this place being a 'transphobic hotbed'. Its not, but if a post seems to be transphobic, you can report it and the mods will delete if its the case.

this thread has been said to be useful to people new to the discussion:

I don't even know if this thread will be here in the morning now the dumbass obvious goading has been replaced by night time earnest walls of lunatic text, but I simply must say this... Women of FWR, you're bloody fabulous. If lurkers didn't understand clearly how much certain men hate the very guts of women, they have had a clear insight here. You total beauties. I love you all xx

Apollo440 · 15/12/2018 01:17

ffs
Thank you for making the case for what we might term old style transexuals. Ones suffering from body dysphoria. I think you'll find that women have generally been sympathetic towards such people.
Now would you kindly make the case for why autogynophiliacs should be treated as women. You know, the ones that get a sexual thrill out of dressing as women. There are way more men like that than transexuals. You do know they are covered by Stonewall's trans umbrella. So tell me why they should be allowed into women's toilets, changing rooms and refuges? Tell me why it is perfectly ok for them to act as girl guide leaders, take women's places in politics, academia and shortlists or work in rape crisis centres? Please explain why anyone questioning that this might just be a problem is a bigot. And when you gave cleared that up we can move onto the other characters that come under the trans umbrella who are even more disturbing. Or do you have a different definition of who is trans? (but be careful that could be transphobic).

ffsnotagains · 15/12/2018 01:20

@R0wantrees clinging at straws there other people with my other posts (different username) have often @usernamed me and nobody's ever said anything about it. There's no rule against it I'm addressing people why shouldn't I put their usernames in my replies to them?

Nah, mate. The only thing I'm complicit in is possible giving people cavities by sending them sweets for Xmas.

Please don't @ me.
It sends an email notification & is not neccessary.

I said, most people don't like it.

The rules of the board are relevent to the substance of your posts.

Just a heads up.

Indeed. Love and kisses to all, and your popcorn and/or mince pies will be waiting when you get back.

R0wantrees · 15/12/2018 01:25

Google is under federal investigation for sex discrimination. So how does a tech company protect itself from that? Easy: they just re-label men women. Most of the TW counting as female hires in tech don’t actually physically transition. They just wear dresses and grow their hair out — and there’s been form for that in California since 1967. So they aren’t taking any kind of risk. That risk was taken decades ago by gay male drag queens, who paved the way for the current generation of transgender males.

Hopefully the thread will be able to stay on track as these are important issues.

ClosdesMouches · 15/12/2018 01:26
