Bunbury’s Public Service Announcement 2

The useful Bunbury Guide to Spotting Community Disruptors is constantly evolving.

The best research and advice is not to engage with community disruptors and trolls. As ever, if you suspect troll activity, report it to MNHQ.

This is a continuation of the first Public Service Announcement thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3321127-public-service-announcement

If and when you see threads plopped into FWR, especially a curious repeat of well worn topics, maybe check for poster history before engaging.

There are a number of posts/posters/threads that are reproduced on Twitter or Facebook to foment controversy using screen shots & flagging to either MNHQ to have threads or posters deleted. Sometimes, it’s used to approach commissioning editors with ideas for articles. It’s a tiresome tactic that we’ve had several community disruptor posters who themselves post the comments that they then highlight elsewhere as purported evidence of racism, religious intolerance, anti-men sentiments, or transphobia.

Some helpful links in following posts.

Very fast moving thread. It does seem to be a Bunbury poster.

RiverTam · 19/02/2019 16:56

sorry, some of this was me, I haven't known what Bunbury is (though I've seen it mentioned). Think I kept it civil though!

VickyEadie · 19/02/2019 16:58

It's getting worse.

LangCleg · 19/02/2019 17:01

I despair.

VickyEadie · 19/02/2019 17:01

Yep - none so blind and all that.

LangCleg · 19/02/2019 17:04

Obvious trap is obvious trap. Sigh.

Hamster00 · 19/02/2019 17:07

The deleted thread just now... Weak-willed as I am, typed out a response. Saw the Bunbury, hit delete and didn't feed the troll.

Patronising head pats, medals and a biscuit all welcome Wink

Dammit, I'm so easy to suck in....

Datun · 19/02/2019 17:09

Can I ask why one can't respond to inform lurkers? Or have we decided that the lurkers are getting fewer?

Datun · 19/02/2019 17:09

And what's the difference between a harvester and a screenshotter?

bluescreen · 19/02/2019 17:12

Phew. I was watching that with increasing alarm, not least because it was top of the Trending list for a bit. I guess the risk of responding at all, even for benefit of lurkers, is that it helps keep it trending and will attract posters who've never been on FWR before and may have more, ahem, robust ways of expression, hence ideal for harvesting.

Datun · 19/02/2019 17:12

They have been deleted and recognised as 'a prolific and tedious troll'.

Can I just extend my admiration to you lot, for such swift identification of these people. I'm nowhere near as attuned to it.

I kind of gather they are a wind up, but not as blatantly targeting, as you recognise.

Bloody well done.

Datun · 19/02/2019 17:13

Got it. Thanks blue. I never use the trending mechanism, so that never occurs to me.

NeurotrashWarrior · 19/02/2019 17:13

Darn I was halfway through an excellent sex v gender post but had to pause to boob baby and then poof!

I thought it was Sabrina the teen witch tbh 🤦‍♀️😂

LangCleg · 19/02/2019 17:18

Bloody well done.

It's hard, because you have to say it in a way that won't get you yourself deleted!

Datun · 19/02/2019 17:25

Well I reported them. But I couldn't work out whether they were an abused teenager, or a troll. But I knew that either way they weren't posting in good faith.

I do know that there are trans people who genuinely think that mumsnet hate them. And that our attitude to tw is wildly irrational.

When we don't, and it isn't.

So when they say oh you hate us, I wonder if it's one of those people.

NeurotrashWarrior · 19/02/2019 17:44

I had briefly looked in twitter and saw a phrase that was in the op. I must admit I posted for lurkers.

silentcrow · 23/02/2019 21:27

Oh look, it's Saturday night and the goady one is bored.

Anyone for a beer?

feministfairy · 23/02/2019 21:31

Indeed. I have Wine

MargueritaPink · 23/02/2019 21:31

I seem to have lost all taste or desire for alcohol. I was ill on 31 December and missed a party that night. I spotted around 20 January that, without boring everyone about how I was doing dry January, I hadn't drunk anything. Still haven't.

Weekend's started early I see with the self-medicating man.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 01/03/2019 21:10

I hear the Booker prize has a new sponsor.

ComputerSaysMo · 01/03/2019 21:24

I see we have an antisemitic conspiracy theorist joining us now. I wonder if they really mean it, or it’s just for harvesting “far right Nazi” screenshots?
