Lily Madigan and the School Saga

Lily Madigan has been self-praising again, with more details about how they "sued" their school.

They hired a "team of solicitors", to "advice" Lily and the "principle" gave in on all their "demands".

The truth is slightly different.

Lily arrived at school wearing basically a boob tube. They were sent home because it was against uniform policy. Any girl wearing that for school would have been asked to change or go home. It's clear Lily was looking for a reason to kick things off.

Lily was not "made to wear a man's suit". They were asked to adhere to the school uniform - like any pupil. The girls wear a blazer too and can wear a skirt or trousers; many girls choose to wear trousers and the blazer.

Lily organised a petition. It was an ONLINE petition, quite different to a paper one. The support Lily claimed she had is very difficult to prove.

The school's staff tried very hard to placate Lily. They had meetings with their mother, the pastoral care team, etc - and got nowhere. It apparently caused distress to Lily's younger sister who was at school.

Lily contacted a solicitor in London. Because of the Equality Act the school did have to cater to transgender pupils - and when the school was informed of their obligations they changed their policy in accordance to the Act.

There was no suing of the school. There was no legal action, certainly no "legal battle", as Lily repeatedly claims.

There was no victimisation of Lily. Afterwards, the school said they had tried very hard for Lily and their words and actions had been deliberately twisted.

And now Lily still says that "they won", they "got it all", and that they did all this behind their parents' backs, and then "embarked on a media tour".

Lily's parents knew about it all, right from the day Lily was sent home.

She is intelligent too - they didn’t just hand her a place!

OlennasWimple · 02/12/2018 19:15

LM does sometimes wear glasses that Dierdre Barlow would reject for their ugliness

OlennasWimple · 02/12/2018 19:16

I don't know anyone partially sighted who is able to correct their vision with contacts, though - they all wear bottle bottom thickness glasses all the time, and in at least one case are still practically blind even so

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/12/2018 19:18

You can get contacts but glasses are more comfortable. And even if you do have lenses you will wear your specs on some days.

WomanOfTime · 02/12/2018 20:50

Given that Lily isn't the brightest, what would you bet that Lily thinks 'partially sighted' means 'needs to wear glasses/contacts to correct vision'? Hmm

AngryAttackKittens · 02/12/2018 21:10

My mum was another one with similar vision problems to Grumpygran. Could not catch or hit a ball to save her life, watching my father try to make her play tennis with him anyway was one of the first times I remember formulating a grand theory of men simply don't listen to the words that come out of women's mouths.

AngryAttackKittens · 02/12/2018 21:11

Lily otoh maybe needs contacts sometimes. As do I. Would not attempt to use it as an excuse for being a total wanker.

sorenipples · 02/12/2018 21:48

Lily's twitter profile no longer references her being a current labour party woman's officer. Obviously changing her profile doesn't mean anything underlying has changed.

One possibility is that someone has had words about her using Labour party roles for her own self promotion and benefit (always seemed inappropriate to me, especially now she is saying she will only do paid interviews etc. ) but then again she still references being the first trans woman to be a labour party woman's officer.

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 02/12/2018 22:09

It's a shame LM hasn't been included in the Woman's Hour features so far. I think LM's voice speaking up on Radio 4 would be very beneficial to the cause.

dillydallyXX · 02/12/2018 22:16

But is Lily really a part of the Labour party?

She was when she was Women's Officer for a year - during which she did nothing for women - but now she is just a student, and a student officer at the student union. She's part of Momentum too, but anyone could be.

Maybe after all the complaints about her and her constant lying and flakiness, the party will keep her at arm's length.

when I joke that I am practically blind without my glasses / contacts, I do so knowing that in fact I am very short-sighted and in no way actually "partially sighted"

sorenipples · 02/12/2018 22:33

She's not a student officer at the student union. She is a student officer at the university's labour party . Not quite sure what if any responsibilities come with that role. She is a member of the labour party, and did hold a role at branch level. She no longer references that.

One thing I always note is the lack of evidence of day to day activism. Always giving speeches and running for office, never the dull stuff.

The reason this bothers me is that labour appear to take her seriously as a credible career politician. It stops me taking labour seriously.

dillydallyXX · 02/12/2018 22:45

oh ok, thanks for explaining.

well, Lily's latest thing was this Teen Vogue thing. She is excited about it because it gives her validation and the spotlight is on her. She has also launched a campaign called #AskYouthToStand. This involved her creating a new Twitter account and retweeting vapid messages. That's her "activism".

But the nitty gritty work, the kind of stuff Gill Hart has done, that always kind of escapes Lily.

It stops me taking labour seriously.
Me too. It's as if there's not just been a total replacement at the shadow cabinet level, but at constituency level too.

hackmum · 03/12/2018 14:23

What is it with Vogue? I notice that Paris Lees has just been announced as a columnist for the UK edition.

dillydallyXX · 03/12/2018 15:13

Vogue is just ticking the trans box, because it's the "in" thing at the moment. That's why Lily was flown to LA and told how wonderful and brave she was for changing her name to Lily.

It won't last.

Never liked Vogue. Always thought it was up it’s own backside (and the recent teen vogue article of anal sex - minus the negatives - perfectly illustrates my point).

OrchidInTheSun · 03/12/2018 16:07

In the U.K. they have a new male gay editor. I think he was behind that stunning and brave video

dillydallyXX · 03/12/2018 16:09

Lily really is the gift that keeps on giving!

But making them resign first.

That tweet has the wild outrage and slight whiff of BS that you hear from your teens retelling a juicy bit of gossip.

GrumpyGran8 · 03/12/2018 18:21

Gay people do face horrific persecution and oppression - including torture - in Russia, especially in Chechnya, where a gay teenager was reportedly thrown from a ninth-floor window by his uncle. And Putin undoubtedly doesn't like politicians who oppose him or his cronies. However, although one or two of Putin's enemies have had unfortunate accidents involving high buildings, the people who regularly throw gay people off rooftops are ISIS and their friends, in Syria.
Our Lily has a great grasp of international politics.

Just had a stroll through Lily's Twitter feed.
Now please wipe your feet on your way out.

Urbanbeetler · 04/12/2018 06:23

We are being a bit hypocritical here. We say trans women are obsessed with looks and the trappings of being feminine and slam lily for not focusing on her hair and skin more. I don’t like some of the ways she behaves at all, but I do prefer her more natural and less painted attitude to her looks than the airbrushed sexual pouting of so many high profile trans women.

And while I will discuss the issues around her integrity because she puts herself out there as a one-day politician, I think this thread risks descending into merely mocking her for her looks.

If we were all better at letting people present exactly as they want to present... well, we would have more people comfortable to live their lives in the clothes they like and presenting any way they feel ok, within their birth sex, without the need to bind, chop and medicate.

JoggerBottom · 04/12/2018 06:27

Urban you are right.
