Lily Madigan and the School Saga

dillydallyXX · 24/11/2018 09:50

Lily Madigan has been self-praising again, with more details about how they "sued" their school.

They hired a "team of solicitors", to "advice" Lily and the "principle" gave in on all their "demands".

The truth is slightly different.

Lily arrived at school wearing basically a boob tube. They were sent home because it was against uniform policy. Any girl wearing that for school would have been asked to change or go home. It's clear Lily was looking for a reason to kick things off.

Lily was not "made to wear a man's suit". They were asked to adhere to the school uniform - like any pupil. The girls wear a blazer too and can wear a skirt or trousers; many girls choose to wear trousers and the blazer.

Lily organised a petition. It was an ONLINE petition, quite different to a paper one. The support Lily claimed she had is very difficult to prove.

The school's staff tried very hard to placate Lily. They had meetings with their mother, the pastoral care team, etc - and got nowhere. It apparently caused distress to Lily's younger sister who was at school.

Lily contacted a solicitor in London. Because of the Equality Act the school did have to cater to transgender pupils - and when the school was informed of their obligations they changed their policy in accordance to the Act.

There was no suing of the school. There was no legal action, certainly no "legal battle", as Lily repeatedly claims.

There was no victimisation of Lily. Afterwards, the school said they had tried very hard for Lily and their words and actions had been deliberately twisted.

And now Lily still says that "they won", they "got it all", and that they did all this behind their parents' backs, and then "embarked on a media tour".

Lily's parents knew about it all, right from the day Lily was sent home.

Students need Apple watches in case they fall over and pass out now? What, like those alarm bracelets old people can have?

Quite. If you have health problems that make this a necessity, talk to your GP and get an alarm for free on the NHS.

Elderly working class people are not gifted Apple watches.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 29/11/2018 12:05

How does it know if a) you fall over and/or b) pass out?

sounds like a small child desperately trying to explain why the can’t possibly share their sweets with their little sibling.

Gileswithachainsaw · 29/11/2018 12:07

And where are all these friends and followers and the Labour party followers...surely they would all call 999.

LangCleg · 29/11/2018 12:23

Madigan pure trolling us

I concur.

Micke · 29/11/2018 12:35

How does it know if a) you fall over and/or b) pass out?

It can detect heart rate anomalies these days - it's not specifically around fainting - unless that fainting is caused by a heart related issue. It also does have fall detection, and an emergency call mode.

It's also a 4 or 5 hundred quid watch (4 if you already have an iphone for it to make the emergency call through, 5+ if you want cellular on the watch).

I feel that Lily's priorities around health and money are a bit skewed.

I think the "trans being turned down for jobs" is a bit of a false analogy. Research has shown, time and again, that attractive people are more likely to get the job at interview than an unnattractive person. If a person does not conform to society's opinion of what is attractive, then that person is at a disadvantage. It is nothing to do with being trans or not, anyone who does not fit the aesthetic is more likely to be turned down for a job.

KayM2 · 29/11/2018 12:50

VickyE; oh sorry; I was ill -informed; I know she did a foundation year at UCA, and now is at Goldsmiths. Sorry, I thought it was fashion, don't know why. Do you know what she is studying?

Micke · 29/11/2018 12:51

Research has shown, time and again, that attractive people are more likely to get the job at interview than an unnattractive person

It's a relatively small effect though - I mean, I'm a short, fat woman with a foreign name, all also proven to reduce my likelihood of getting a particular job - yet I've not had a problem getting employed both as a student and an adult, in skilled and unskilled jobs.

I would think that with all Lilly's contacts, Lilly should be able to find paid work if Lilly wanted it.

NotANotMan · 29/11/2018 12:56

Lily is studying politics apparently

Needmoresleep · 29/11/2018 13:05

DS has just been through the graduate job search thing looking at specific roles in the public sector.

An employer he was really interested in was making a big song and dance about wanting more diversity. A relatively small specialist organisation so the best way to add diversity is via recruitment. DS did not get an interview. I would put good money on that someone like Lily, but with the SAME qualifications as DS, would have progressed further. (And then, if hired, appear on the front of next year's recruitment brochure.)

FWIW it really does not matter. DS is now studying for a PhD and so, if he is still interested, will be able to apply for a more senior specialist job at the same place, and he did get some other, good, offers. And elsewhere being a male privately-educated Caucasian might be an advantage. You can't win them all. So Lily has had some brilliant opportunities, almost certainly because she is trans. Some employers really won't care (cleaner, supermarket shop assistant, etc), some might hesitate, and some will want to parade her (Labour Party, perhaps the BBC etc). My advice: indentify a career realistically in line with your talents and interests; get the qualifications; be willing to work hard; develop team and other skills; and if you can make a good contribution in the workplace someone will hire you. Once in, a lot of the rest is up to you. Yes someone might pick you up as a form of tokenism, but without competence or skills, this is not the best way to build a long term career.

KayM2 · 29/11/2018 13:12

N-M-S; spot on.

re LMs degree; Yes, politics make sense. God knows where I got the idea that she was doing a fashion degree from. Though her first college was UCA, which is a multi site Art College.

HamiltonCork · 29/11/2018 13:18

I wouldn’t imagine the Lily’s ever actually applies for a job

Much easier to get the begging bowl out and along of mummy and daddy.

But as an employer I wouldnt hire her. Not because she is trans but:
Suing the school
Disaster of a twitter account
Lack of any genuine work experience (the paid variety)
She comes across as a shit stirrer and someone who would be a lover of a never ending supply of sick notes.

thenightsky · 29/11/2018 13:18

I thought fashion student too. I'm sure I read it in an earlier article that someone linked to, but it may be among the removed posts because I can't find it now. It was an article (maybe The Metro?) with a pic of Lily and (her version) of the suing the school thing.

KayM2 · 29/11/2018 13:22

Hamiltonc;ork

What you said, with knobs and bells.

If she was to be offered a berth, make sure it is a wide one.

Urbanbeetler · 29/11/2018 13:25

I don’t think she gets anything from her parents; they’re estranged. I think she was doing a fashion foundation course in Kent but is now studying politics in Goldsmiths at degree level.

KayM2 · 29/11/2018 13:33

Oh; politics then.

FFS.

Badstyley · 29/11/2018 13:39

LM is having a laugh aren’t they? Of course they could get a job if they wanted one, (you see TW, or what I assume are TW, shouldn’t assume their gender though) all over the place. We saw a TW, (or what I took to be a TW, not assuming their gender, obvs) just last weekend, working in a local famous department store. They didn’t pass in the slightest, if indeed a TW is what they are.

Surely with a CV as impressive as LM’s, you know, with all the tireless political campaigning for womens’ rights and being the first trans Labour womens’ officer at 19, they’d be a shoe in? Somebody as self aggrandising as the fragrant one should be well on the ladder by now after the leg up they’ve had. I should think any interviewer would be blown away by how brave and stunning they are.

Can’t get a job = cba to get a job, or equally as likely but less probable, nobody will touch me because employers have google, and I’m a vile misogynistic twat on t internet.

VickyEadie · 29/11/2018 15:30

I'm still hooting at LM's claim that the patriarchy doesn't apply because LM identifies as a gay woman.

As a gay woman (the type with a vagina, etc), I can state categorically that not only does the patriarchy apply to the likes of me, it's been fundamental in my personal oppression.

LM needs to do a bit more reading of basic textbooks and a bit less pratting about doing Teen Vogue photshoots, if LM wants to be taken seriously in politics.

dillydallyXX · 29/11/2018 15:41

But why are so many people taken in?

Lily has jumped on the trans bandwagon and has exploited it for all its worth. She has a public profile not because of her personality - in the Vogue video she has NO personality and NO energy, and at school people said they didn't know who she was until she said she was trans - but because she is trans.

And people "salute" her for fighting for women's rights. It is madness.

People voted for Katie Price as celebrity mother of the year.

People will vote for anyone they’ve ever heard of, regardless. Same with ‘names’. How else can you explain celebrities selling perfumes?

Thingybob · 29/11/2018 16:34

I don't normally look at LMs twitter but it has gone rather strange.

On the one hand there are the normal self absorbed teenage-type tweets about being 'cute' or needing an iwatch or the over exaggerating of achievements.

On the other hand there is an emerging interest in wider political issues including her launching a campaign called AskYouthtoStand.

No way have all those tweets been typed by the same person, they are just too different in style.

So someone is still pulling LM's strings.
