The WRC announced its decision in an email, which came after the center evaluated responses from a survey. Survey respondents opposing the production consistently indicated they were concerned that the play centers on cisgender women, that the play's version of feminism excludes some women, including trans women, and that overall, "The Vagina Monologue" lacks diversity and inclusion.

Jeezus bloody wept ! Is that sonebodies paid job to complain a play about actual women talks about actual women

Juells · 15/11/2018 16:02

They're not the first to be so brave and stunning.

EMU is not the first university to reconsider its position in hosting "The Vagina Monologues."

American University's Women's Initiative chose to change the event to the "Breaking Ground Monologues" in an effort to "broaden the focus from specifically female genitalia to multiple identities and bodies."

Let's just re-write everything that refers to women in a way that makes it clear the women referred to are actually women.

It is just too far it is ridiculous

Threewheeler1 · 15/11/2018 16:05

It was only a matter of time before they came for The Vagina Monologues...

Elfinablender · 15/11/2018 16:05

Surely if you throw the 'Vagina Monologues' through the trans-narrative translator, then the accusation should be that it excludes some men?

Melamin · 15/11/2018 16:07

Maybe they should have added Jess's contribution [boak]

MrsJayy · 15/11/2018 16:08

It is like saying the color purple isn't inclusive of white people

Threewheeler1 · 15/11/2018 16:08

On another note, I'm chuckling over a word I've never encountered before in their explanation, "minoritized"....Grin
Consider me educatized

lunamoth581 · 15/11/2018 16:11

I demand that “Death of a Salesman” is no longer performed, as it is exclusionary to those of us who are not dead salesmen.

RiverTam · 15/11/2018 16:11

maybe they're worried about excluding women who've lost their vagina in an accident...

Threewheeler1 · 15/11/2018 16:13

Melamin
Oh god. I've had to pause it half way in for a breather.
The earnest hand gestures....

Ok.
Back to it.

hazeyjane · 15/11/2018 16:16

For. Fuck's. Sake.

Similarly, I'm fucking livid about the Lion King - I'm not a lion or a king, how am I even supposed to understand it? Fucking selfish feline carnivore bastards!

Popchyk · 15/11/2018 16:18

I must confess that I am fearing for future productions of Two Gentlemalecisgenderpeople of Verona.

I am off to the RSC to call them out.

Melamin · 15/11/2018 16:18

Melamin Oh god. I've had to pause it half way in for a breather.

You are doing better than me - I have never got through the whole thing.
(Jess is still suspended from the NUS, by the way - the 28 day process is a bit long Hmm )

Popchyk · 15/11/2018 16:20

Free Willy is surely problematic.

How it rolleth off the tongue.
We should 'woke' up the entire works of Shakespeare.

Badstyley · 15/11/2018 16:28

The last school play DS was in they were all dressed up as rain forest animals, I felt so excluded and erased after that performance. When DS asked if I liked it I just burst into tears and told him how selfish and bigoted they were, and how unsafe they’d made me feel. They didn’t even have a trigger warning at the beginning. I had no choice but to complain to the school and have all the teachers and staff involved with the play sacked.

Threewheeler1 · 15/11/2018 16:29

Melamin
I made it. It was toe curling.
Do I get a prize, I really need a prize because right now, if my vagina could talk, it would say "if you ever make me watch that again, I'm leaving you" Grin

I don't blame you. You were totally in the right. Hope, going forward, that the nasty, mean bigots have learnt their lesson. You should put it all over Facebook, Twitter, make a Youtube film about your struggles and maybe set up a Crowdfunder for your long-term recovery...Grin

Popchyk · 15/11/2018 16:37

So sorry you had to go through that, Bad. Coercive and violent erasure right there in plain sight. Have you thought of suing the Local Education Authority? I know someone who identifies as a lawyer who could help you.

I had a similar experience watching Peterloo at the cinema yesterday. As someone living in the 21st century I felt entirely excluded from the plot that was set in the 19th century. I mean how hard it is to do flashbacks to include modern-day folks?

History will judge that fucking Mike Leigh.

VickyEadie · 15/11/2018 16:39

You know that Matthew Bourne Swan Lake, which has an entirely male cast...

D'you think any of the TRAs are likely to go gunning for it? No, neither do I.

breastfeedingclownfish · 15/11/2018 16:41

RiverTam

I think we can all have sympathy for those who have lost their vagina in an accident. Like that Billy Connolly clip where he checks that he hasn't lost his willy, maybe we should all check, you know, before we go out in the morning, just to make sure we haven't lost our vaginas
