The WRC announced its decision in an email, which came after the center evaluated responses from a survey. Survey respondents opposing the production consistently indicated they were concerned that the play centers on cisgender women, that the play's version of feminism excludes some women, including trans women, and that overall, "The Vagina Monologue" lacks diversity and inclusion.

Like that Billy Connolly clip where he checks that he hasn't lost his willy, maybe we should all check

Years ago I was waiting for a friend at the cinema. For some reason the seats were really low, so my eye-level was crotch level for people standing up.

I was struck, to the point if it staying in my mind for years, at the number of times men check their genitals, or adjust them. It was so constant it’s obviously habit.

Perhaps men are so often in a fret about losing their genitals, they can’t conceive of women not feeling the same anxiety.

My advice is: don’t look down ...

Yesterday 17:08 vesuvia

"American University's Women's Initiative chose to change the event to the "Breaking Ground Monologues"*

As a non-construction worker I feel excluded! I insist the name be changed to “Light Weeding Minologues” to be inclusive of those who don’t possess heavy machinery.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 16/11/2018 08:01

This is why we can't have nice things.

Juells · 16/11/2018 08:39

It's extraordinary that the first thought the objectors had wasn't "Let's make a play about our own experiences" but "Let's throw a tantrum and invalidate the experiences of women"

Yeah it is all "S'not fair" I think I peaked yesterday ive been teetering on the edge of this for a while lurking around threads but reading that i thought nah this is bullshit

Urbanbeetler · 16/11/2018 08:55

It is so hard to understand. We didn’t throw out Taming of the Shrew when we realised women didn’t have to be controlled by men. We didn’t ban Gone with the Wind when we worked for race equality. We didn’t ban Richard III when we began the journey into disability rights.

What is it with this issue? It all feels so utterly unreal.

Urbanbeetler · 16/11/2018 08:56

Why aren’t supporters of trans rights speaking up about this? This is wrong on every level.

Urbanbeetler · 16/11/2018 08:56

There must be trans rights supporters who see this is wrong.

Popchyk · 16/11/2018 09:03

You can't go against the cult.

Ever.

Because they will hound you for even the most minor infringement.

Look how the TRAs reacted to The Guardian for publishing an editorial saying that trans rights should be balanced with women's rights.

ContessaHallelujahSparklehorse · 16/11/2018 09:09

I've watched Puppetry of the Penis on film and had mercifully blocked it from my memory 'til just now. You monsters!!

The writer of Vagina Monologues did a trans bit? I think that's very considerate of her, but I imagine it was insufficient because it othered transpeople rather than sticking to the party line of 'transwomen are women'....

MrsJayy · 16/11/2018 09:17

We don't have walk in centres in Scotla nd we need to contact out of hours wait for a call back etc etc I can see why people panic and phone an ambulance.

MrsJayy · 16/11/2018 09:17

Soo wrong thread sorry Blush

Juells · 16/11/2018 09:24

I shall sit in the corner and think about my actions

MickHucknallspinkpancakes · 16/11/2018 10:06

Can we ban "puppetry of the penis" please. I find that extremely exclusionary as I am unable to make either a flying squirrel or a sail boat with my labia.

MickHucknallspinkpancakes · 16/11/2018 10:10

Oops sorry @BillywilliamV I missed your outrage at The puppetry too. Nice to know we aren't in the errr...minoritzed?

Threewheeler1 · 16/11/2018 10:40

When I hear 'Puppetry of the Penis' all I can think of is watching 'Fingerbobs' as a kid.

Ereshkigal · 16/11/2018 10:42

Isn't it? Shockso surprising.

Haworthia · 16/11/2018 10:47

What about men?
What about men?
But what about men though?
You dare you not centre men?

Full marks for an Old Gregg reference hazeyjane. I suppose the Boosh are deeply transphobic and problematic now.

Mumsnut · 16/11/2018 10:51

VM includes transmen, arguably

PlinkPlink · 16/11/2018 11:34

You have got to be fucking kidding me.

I don't understand 😖

The comments are great though.

I snorted laughed at this on the busGrin

VickyEadie · 16/11/2018 15:15

How about we strike a deal. We agree not to object and say it excludes us if someone writes a play called 'The ladypenis monologues' and everyone to whom the Vagina Monologues does not apply shuts the fuck up?

TheGoddessFrigg · 16/11/2018 15:18

'Breaking Ground' ?? Nobody has ever called my vagina THAT Shock. It sounds a bit Lawrentian and Northern - perhaps we could have Sean Bean saying 'Eh lass, get tha knickers off so I can have a go on your breaking ground'...
