The WRC announced its decision in an email, which came after the center evaluated responses from a survey. Survey respondents opposing the production consistently indicated they were concerned that the play centers on cisgender women, that the play's version of feminism excludes some women, including trans women, and that overall, "The Vagina Monologue" lacks diversity and inclusion.

perhaps we could have Sean Bean saying 'Eh lass, get tha knickers off so I can have a go on your breaking ground'...

If he wears his sharpe uniform I’m up for that (alas apparently he’s been accused of DV so that’s another one ruined. Sigh.)

This is so absurd. Would any woman obsess about exclusion, if there was a ‚hysterectomy dialogue‘ or a ‚prostitute dialogue‘ or even a ‚penis dialogue‘. It is not even called a women‘s dialogue, which then only talks vagina, which I thought was TRA‘s point of contention. Idiotic.

It's so blooming frustrating. A good play with a sharp focus about being trans and/or about having sex dysphoria [other interpretations of the trans phenomenon are available] would be brilliant and might actually help advance trans rights and reduce prejudice against trans people. Presumably there is one/are some? Why on earth waste time picking on The Vagina Monologues, which is hardly the greatest script on earth but which has been successful in its own right in expressing something that hadn't been expressed before? Like what Art is supposed to do? I mean, I know it's hard writing a good play - I've tried and I know someone who does it for a living. It's really, really hard work and there is no guarantee of any publicity or success or public interest....

Oh.

This obsession with being offended is really starting to wear thin and makes one wonder what exactly is included in statistics about discrimination.
Frailty, thy name is transbrain.

It's a shame. They have so few plays centred on a overweight, middle aged, exhausted academic mothers who don't get out much. Does that mean I'm minoritized? Do I get to ban ALL the plays?
I thought The Vagina Monologues was a play where some vagina-havers talk about their vaginas and how having a vagina impact on their lives. Vagina non-havers can watch and learn while vagina-havers can watch and empathise (or not).

Even those who strongly believe that TWAW and that you don't need a vagina to be a woman can surely accept that women with vaginas are allowed to talk about them if they want to?
I took my DM to see 'Puppetry of the Penis' some years ago. Neither of us asked for it to be cancelled because most of the audience didn't have a penis. That would be bonkers.

I mean honestly it went like this.

Women's group on campus 1st meeting of the year. "Hey what should we do for our first event this year?"

Female member: "I'm an RA and I'm finding a lot of the young women in my dormitory have a lot of body anxiety and shame, maybe we could do the vagina monologues to get a conversation started?"

Trans woman member: "No thanks - I don't want to do the vagina monologues because I don't have a vagina."

club members: "... ok, Nevermind ... other ideas?"

And thusly women are censored from discussing their bodies.

No, they don't accept this. Because it's about power.

Mrsfrumble · 16/11/2018 17:28

Wait what?

I though “vagina have-r” was okay, as long as one didn’t insist that this included all women and excluded all men?

I’m so confused.

vagender · 16/11/2018 20:33

Pleased to announce that I have written my own, inclusive adaptation of the Vagina Monologues, entitled “Talking out of my Ass”.

AspieAndProud · 16/11/2018 20:45

I think William S Burroughs beat you to the talking asshole by 50 years! It’s one of the most celebrated passages in Naked Lunch.

NeurotrashWarrior · 16/11/2018 22:12

It is like saying the color purple isn't inclusive of white people

This.

JillyArmeeen · 16/11/2018 22:27

I nearly lost my vagina in an accident. I've got a 2inch scar on my bum. It was a close call.
Impaled on a spiky thing.

Fanjita1 · 16/11/2018 22:35

Jesus wept. I stopped watching after the 'my vagina' admission (cough) delusion.

RebelWitchFace · 16/11/2018 22:57

If their vagina sings that's a sign something went wrong somewhere.

Giggle giggle male entitlement giggle giggle. Fuck off.
