As it's Trans Awareness Week I wanted to give a shout out to all the old school Trans folk who are busy getting on with their lives and are not so vocal online.

Peace and acceptance to you all

Men love to tell women what feminism means.

But it surely must have a definition outside of 'whatever I want it to mean', even allowing for different schools of thought.

ScottCheggJnr · 13/11/2018 22:01

Going back to the 'two a week' statistic, I'm sure it was calculated that this represents 0.000006 of men killing their partners (presumably based on the 2011 census results of 31m males in this country, which is now likely to be a fair bit higher).

I'd love to see a total cessation of these murders but how can us men police everybody? Especially when over 99.9% of men don't murder their spouses.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 13/11/2018 22:09

Here's one of this week's two Scott, as some of us have just been discussing

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-46193380

And you want to have a nice chat about numbers.

Bit tone deaf mate couldn't you at least have waited until the conversation had moved on some.

It's wearying that you read these things and say oh well look at the numbers it's not really so bad and anyway what can you do?

NothingOnTellyAgain · 13/11/2018 22:12

But you don't actuary care do you. You just like goading women on these boards. Look at that womans face, think about her kids, her spouse, and take a night off why don't you.

ScottCheggJnr · 13/11/2018 22:14

If you're going to bring up the numbers then you need to be prepared for the possibility that somebody might comment on them. I didn't just go into a thread about the murder of a woman and start coldly number crunching.

It's a very distressing story and it sickens me to the stomach, but it still isn't indicative of the vast majority of men or their nature.

VickyEadie · 13/11/2018 22:15

Men who enjoy goading women and - especially - about the numbers murdered by their partners each week. They're particularly special examples of their sex.

ScottCheggJnr · 13/11/2018 22:26

But you don't actuary care do you. You just like goading women on these boards. Look at that womans face, think about her kids, her spouse, and take a night off why don't you.

I'm sure that you'd become tired of constantly reading derogatory comments about your sex based on the actions of a tiny (and usually mentally disturbed) minority. It's part of why this board had a bad reputation even amongst many women.

The man who did this is a monster, not men in general, and attempting to use silencing tactics won't stop me saying it. My heart truly goes out to the family of the victim, but like every other male aside from the perpetrator I'm in no way responsible and won't be hanging my head in penance, just shaking it in horror and disbelief.

What's offensive is using this horrific incident as a vehicle to push your prejudices.

AssassinatedBeauty · 13/11/2018 22:33

No.

I would not be tired at all of an issue being raised about my sex based on the actions of a minority. People aren't making derogatory comments, they are talking about a major issue that affects society as a whole and women in particular. I'd want to think about ways it could be addressed and changed. I'd be thinking a lot about why one sex commits 98% of the issue and the other doesn't. And so on.

What I wouldn't do is go on a forum dominated by the other sex and bash on about how it doesn't matter and it's not my responsibility to address.

FloralBunting · 13/11/2018 22:35

God yeah, you lot! The offensive thing about a woman being murdered is that people might think badly of Scott and other men!

Someone should write a handy list including the worst things about women being harmed is that it makes men look bad or something. That'd be useful for us to remember to defer more.

ScottCheggJnr · 13/11/2018 22:36

I would have much rather see men and women work together in solidarity to address these problems caused by a tiny percentage of the male population.

However, I get the distinct feeling that this is much less appealing to many so called 'feminists' than placing the blame on the 99.9% of men who aren't responsible and having a good old character assassination of the average male.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 13/11/2018 22:39

It's really, really not all about you, Scott.

No one thinks you are responsible for this woman's murder.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 13/11/2018 22:39

So called 'feminists' ?

Alrighty

AssassinatedBeauty · 13/11/2018 22:41

Oh the tired old cliche that we're all man haters. What a surprise.

ScottCheggJnr · 13/11/2018 22:43

What I wouldn't do is go on a forum dominated by the other sex and bash on about how it doesn't matter and it's not my responsibility to address.

Where did I say it doesn't matter? It certainly does, as do the 40x more men who die weekly as the result of male violence - well, likely more as that's just the figure for male suicides.

My point is that pointing an accusatory finger at the average male isn't really doing anything to help.

I'm happy to help if I can, but I won't be accepting any responsibility for a nutter killing anybody just because they share the same sex as me. It's like saying you should accept some responsibility as they were the same species/race as you?

ScottCheggJnr · 13/11/2018 22:46

Do you also think that the average black person should assume responsibility for their race's crimes given that POC are 'overrepresented in every stage of the justice system' according to government figures?

NothingOnTellyAgain · 13/11/2018 22:46

Christ.

Night all.

AssassinatedBeauty · 13/11/2018 22:49

"It's like saying you should accept some responsibility as they were the same species/race as you?"

Yes, we are all responsible as a society. I don't take that as a personal insult, and I'd like to work towards changing it. I do what I can, including considering carefully how I raise my sons.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 13/11/2018 22:53

Night nothing

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 13/11/2018 22:53

assasinated

So far my boys are lovely...the youngest is only 15 so it could still go horribly wrong

SirVixofVixHall · 13/11/2018 23:00

Not “nutters” Scott. I don’t know a single woman who hasn’t experienced some level of sexual abuse. Groping, grabbing, harassment, stalking, flashing, rape, violence. Not one woman in my friendship group. So you carry on thinking this a “tiny” number of men, a minute number of “nutters” . You carry on thinking that you are lovely, so lovely that you come onto a women’s forum to tell us all just that.
If you can’t see that you are in a small way doing just what you profess not to do, then what can we say to you? Leave women alone .

VickyEadie · 13/11/2018 23:02

I wish all women here a Bunbury good night.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 13/11/2018 23:02

Night vicky

AngryAttackKittens · 14/11/2018 00:27

Bunbury says "don't let the giant toad squatting in the lane outside the pub that you've been going to for years and that's full of old friends drive you away, no matter how flatulent it might be".

Step over the toad and go talk to your friends instead.

This #TransAwarenessWeek we will be highlighting some of the trans activists who inspire us, and have changed history.

Today we start with Marsha P. Johnson!

Marsha, threw the first brick at the stonewall riots & was a founding member of the Gay Liberation Front

AngryAttackKittens · 14/11/2018 08:18

Marsha said that Marsha was a gay man shortly before Marsh died, so...
