Looks like Jane Fae is on to explain why it's not the same as transgender...

Lying, innit Grin

paffuto · 12/11/2018 20:28

Good point Electron1 Why didn't VD ask Fae that question?

MilkGoatee · 12/11/2018 20:40

Good old Emile. Until I saw his name cropping up last week (there aren't too many people named "Ratelband", so I realised it was him straight away) I hadn't seen or heard about him for some time. Though I've been away from NL for nearly 17 years, of course.

He was a fastfood business owner, became Neurolinguistic Programming guru (famed for making people walk over glowing coals) and motivational speaker. A bit of a grifter and bullshit artist, to be fair.

I don't think he's making a point in the GC debate, to be honest, but he's jumping on the bandwagon to see if there's something in it for him. After a 'dry spell' getting back into the public eye again.

It's funny, we often felt his name was made up, but it doesn't appear to be the case. Name suits him, though 'ratel' (as 'rattle' or to speak quickly and incessantly) and 'band' (ribbon or band).

Dunno how good his English is, I tend to feel a bit cringy listening to people like him so will not be listening.

Electron1 · 12/11/2018 20:43

He made more sense than Fae did. Basically he's saying if you believe Fae you've set a legal precedent and I'm having some of that bollocks.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 12/11/2018 20:49

victoria derbyshire had a face like a slapped arse throughout. i suspect she was expecting Fae to debunk Emile's scheme. didn't quite work out that way.

it was fun watching Fae try to appeal to Emile to be kind.

I agree that Emile didn't come across as doing this to make a point. no, he genuinely wants a piece of the identity politics pie.

paffuto · 12/11/2018 20:50

I enjoyed it, watched it three times. Even if the bloke is talking bollocks, it's poetic justice. Loved it.

Electron1 · 12/11/2018 20:58

Yes indeed, I identify as pregnant and want maternity pay please. I'm going to have 6 more children and be 21 again. Don't ask for medical proof, it's not a medical issue, it's my identity (not a cushion up my jumper, nope).

AngryAttackKittens · 12/11/2018 21:05

"Why can't you just lie on Tinder, everyone does. I know I do!"

I'm not on Tinder, but when I was on dating apps I didn't lie about anything. You only feel like you have to lie, as Fae does, if either you're actively trying to hide things you know other people don't want in their lives or you aren't able to offer any of the things they do want.

Projection is a fascinating thing to watch in action.

Ereshkigal · 12/11/2018 21:10

I thought Fae was happily married? What's Fae on Tinder for?

Was my thought too!

Electron1 · 12/11/2018 21:11

I just watched it again, it's priceless. He is so on the money.

Transage is age, trans49 is 49, and non age identities are valid.

Laceythesheep · 12/11/2018 21:13

Why did the titling say Jane Fae is a feminist? I feel v. confused.

Electron1 · 12/11/2018 21:15

I identify as non number, I have no age, numbers are spectrum and scientists now know there may be more to digits than outdated bigots think, I might not even be born yet...we just dont know.

Binglebong · 12/11/2018 21:21

To be fair time is an artificial concept. It is simply that we have put a measurement on it. And although we believe it to be consistent it really isn't- perception alters it but also gravity. So if he flew off to another galaxy in some of his 69/49 years it is possible that his body has actually been around for 49 years despite it being created 69 years ago.

Of course, I could be taken a few facts to support complete bollocks.

Ereshkigal · 12/11/2018 21:22

Why did the titling say Jane Fae is a feminist? I feel v. confused.

Because Jane identifies as a feminist. So must it be.

Ereshkigal · 12/11/2018 21:23

But more evidence that the BBC are trolling women, frankly.

borntobequiet · 12/11/2018 21:32

The BBC has reported on this before (and recently, too)
www.bbc.com/future/story/20180712-the-age-you-feel-means-more-than-your-actual-birthdate
Of course, there’s the old adage “you’re as old as you feel”, and its variations (some not permissible on a feminist discussion I fear).

Silentlyobserving · 12/11/2018 21:40

This is just so funny, identity politics goes nuclear - can't wait for the fallout

AngryAttackKittens · 12/11/2018 21:45

Emile does look younger than 69 (and much younger than Fae). Doesn't mean he's not actually 69.

I literally loled at Fae's face at about 5 minutes in. Not so easy to guilt trip men into shutting up, is it, eh? Fae has been focused on bullying women for so long, and received so much institutional support in doing so, that being confronted with a man who's not British and who therefore can't be effectively bullied by British institutions seems to come as a bit of a shock.

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 12/11/2018 21:47

That clip was absolutely hilarious. I think Emile was lucky that JF wasn't equipped with knitting needles.

Ereshkigal · 12/11/2018 21:51

I literally loled at Fae's face at about 5 minutes in.

Me too. And what Empress said.

donquixotedelamancha · 12/11/2018 22:05

Just watched it- he was brilliant. He's clearly thought extensively about it. JF has been making these arguments for years on telly and he pulled her apart with her own exact rhetoric.

'I respect your feelings, you should respect my feelings, otherwise that's discrimination'. She's said almost the exact same thing many times.

He's clearly a nutbar

I don't think so. I suspect he's motivated by both wanting to make a point about age discrimination and by a desire to mock the new fashion for identifying as whatever you wish.

I thought Fae was happily married? What's Fae on Tinder for?

JF has been campaigning for hard porn and legalised prostitution since she was a he. Given her particular areas of interest is anyone surprised she's on Tinder?

pombear · 12/11/2018 22:07

Jane, ahh, Jane.

I think you may be out of step with the more modern definition of 'transgender'. By stating it's a medical condition, you're literally erasing all the drag king and queens, and the men who cross-dress for a sexual fetish.

At the risk of being a stuck record, Jane, you might want to listen to Tara's official lecture definition of trans here:

(For Jane and others with little time, start at about 4 minutes in - but I guarantee if you've got longer, the whole session is jaw dropping, particularly at the end).

Does Victoria actually know Jane's history of extreme porn campaigning and age of consent campaigning before Jane became Jane?

If she does, how does she sit with a straight face opposite someone who is suddenly now defined as a 'feminist'?

If she doesn't, she needs to get better researchers on the show.

FloralBunting · 12/11/2018 22:13

donquixote, I honestly don't think he's doing it to mock - as I said earlier, I think he's on the make. Yes, it's obvious nonsense, and people will say so and he won't get anywhere with it, but the only reason he's not going to be successful is because he's not had a grooming machine behind his campaign talking to powerful people behind closed doors for a very long time.

Of course it's rampant nonsense to clarify to identify as a different age and campaign to have it legally recognized, and everyone can see that. The reason Fae was as ticked off as they were was because this bloke is in a position to pull back the trans-anything's slip and show everyone what's always been underneath.

*claim, not clarify

donquixotedelamancha · 12/11/2018 22:20

I think he's on the make

I think we are saying a similar thing- that he's far too clever and well rehearsed to really believe what he's saying.

The difference is, I don't really see how he benefits much. He may just be an attention seeker, but he made a lot of very valid points about age discrimination. The romantic in me just hopes he's someone who doesn't give two fucks and is doing his bit to wind up the JFs of this world. I think there's something quite noble about that.
