A moment of pause to venerate Janice Turner

Janice is a legend.

kesstrel · 25/10/2018 13:57

The awful thing is that that Guardian article is being pre-moderated to "ensure the discussion remains on the topics raised by the author".

AncientLights · 25/10/2018 13:59

Indeed she is. It's interesting that the poll itself used women and it was the Guardian who decided to be woke about it. I no longer menstruate (thank Gawd) and I don't feel the slightest bit 'offended' or 'excluded' by polls etc that talk about women & menstruation, pregnancy, breast feeding etc. But then, I'm not a fucking snowflake.

Popchyk · 25/10/2018 13:59

Guardian article

JaneGottaGun · 25/10/2018 13:59

She so is.

BigGreenOlives · 25/10/2018 14:04

I don’t know if she has a google alert when her name comes up or whether she’s a lurker but Thank you Janice Turner for all you are doing.

Popchyk · 25/10/2018 14:08

Neither the raw data nor the article by YouGov themselves use the word "menstruators". So this reference was introduced by The Guardian.

Original YouGov article

YouGov raw data

Shocking news from the raw data is that it demonstrates that no male people responded to this survey. Which is definite transphobia if ever I saw it.

GulagsMyArse · 25/10/2018 14:10

She is!!!!

I've really hit a rock bottom with this. I'm in tears now, The Guardian call us mensturators. Jesus, I feel like we are fucked. Women are totally fucked.

Dehumanising women in the National press, and we are the ones that get called Nazis????? . Handmaidens Tale looking like a factual text more and more every day.

littlbrowndog · 25/10/2018 14:12

Fuck off guardian
Just fuck off

BigotedWoman · 25/10/2018 14:12

Janice is brilliant.

merrymouse · 25/10/2018 14:23

‘menstruator’ doesn’t make sense as a word. It’s a completely involuntary action and I’m only ‘menstruating’ when I have a period, not constantly.

The rest of the article does at least acknowledge that periods, child birth etc. happen to women and not men, which is almost surprising given the rest of the paper’s content.

GulagsMyArse · 25/10/2018 14:37

Fuck off guardian
Just fuck off

Exactly!!

I stopped my subscription with them a a few months ago.

rightreckoner · 25/10/2018 14:37

She is awesome. And yes I’m not currently menstruating but I am always a woman. As is everyone who menstruates. If you think you are a man and you think you menstruate you’ve got one of your facts wrong.

FloralBunting · 25/10/2018 14:39

Yes, the Guardian might as well have called us 'bleeders'.

I wonder how many women have taken out subscriptions to the Times because of Janice's journalism? Now that would be an interesting stat for the things MNers buy thread.

Agree I no longer menstruate, but as a female GP many women who do prefer to see a female GP to discuss menstrual problems. Whether or not I still menstruate is irrelevant. We share female biology and I can relate to discussions on tampons etc. I don't feel excluded by tampon ads talking about women.
The daft sexist ads for lawnmowers that "get the job done" so the bloke can watch the footie are more annoying as a lawn mower user but they make me laugh with their OTT sexism. If women can cope with lawnmowers being described as for men then transwomen should be able to cope with menstrual products being "for women". Postmenopausal women have never complained about these ads so saying "not all women menstruate" is silly. we know that, but only women menstruate, even women who prefer to identify as men

heresyandwitchcraft · 25/10/2018 14:50

Janice Turner - total LEGEND. Star Flowers Gin

nicenewdusters · 25/10/2018 14:51

Stopped reading the Guardian about 10 years ago because it was already full of this type of utter shit then.

The day I meet a man who's menstruating I'll buy it again.

So that's never then.

BlardyBlar · 25/10/2018 14:51

I've really hit a rock bottom with this. I'm in tears now, The Guardian call us mensturators. Jesus, I feel like we are fucked. Women are totally fucked.

I’m having one of those days too, though I’m weary of raging and dry eyed. Must be end of consultation blues.

I salute Janice Turner and all the other brave women at the forefront of this campaign.

BitOutOfPractice · 25/10/2018 14:53

That is so dehumanising isn't it?

So yes Guardian, do fuck off with your demeaning twaddle

AnyFucker · 25/10/2018 14:57

Janice Turner is brilliant

anotherGCacademic · 25/10/2018 15:00

Love her too. Fuck off Guardian.

mooncuplanding · 25/10/2018 15:01

I just read the article and it does say ‘women and their petiods’ many times and only once says “asked 548 menstruators”

I didn’t actually read that as being women erasing necessarily, more that they wanted women who currently menstruated to answer the specific question about how it affected work in recent time.

It could have been worded ‘women who menstruate’ but because the rest of the article had no attempt to erase women, I’m not so sure this is a clear case of trans politics at large
