I shall definitely be calling it out every time it's not the other way round. So if they are talking about prostate cancer, they need to refer to prostate havers. If they are talking about sperm, they need to refer to the people as ejaculators. Because not all men ejaculate.

And I hope Janice Turner puts this in motion. That a memo gets sent round to all departments. Prostrate havers, ejaculators, penis masturbators. Let's have it all then.

mimivanne · 25/10/2018 15:05

Empress

Heres a Times subscriber, entirely down to Janice.

Previously with the Guardian since my first letter was published in 1967.No more.
Thank you Janice, fearless and clear voice for women

Barracker · 25/10/2018 15:06

Gonna keep posting this every time someone calls us menstruators.

It's had quite a few outings recently.

I object to the bigoted excluding language in this @guardian article. How dare they use “men”. Not all men have prostates. Some women have prostates.

I prefer the term Prostateers

Oh yeah!

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 25/10/2018 15:12

Love Irischild's work, Barracker!

OP posts:
BigotedWoman · 25/10/2018 15:12

Barracker I hadn't seen that before, thank you.

ErrolTheDragon · 25/10/2018 15:14

We've been Times readers for years - paper then online subscription. (DH reads a lot of other online news sources too.). I think I'm one of the earlier contributors of sharetoken links - I'm glad that many are getting subscriptions rather than just relying on those for specific articles.

It's got the best crosswords and killer sudoku too, IMO.

SirVixofVixHall · 25/10/2018 15:16

Janice is brilliant, I agree wholeheartedly.

I never buy the Guardian now. It has become a paper for men. Even the blind date thing had far more men than women.

Datun · 25/10/2018 15:22

Can someone tweet that Irishchild poem to Janice.

terryleather · 25/10/2018 15:43

Janice Turner is fabulous and I adore her.

The Guardian on the other hand are a bunch of woke misogynist fuds, I wouldnae gie them a lick o' ma shite !

placemats · 25/10/2018 15:45

For those that can't read the poem it's here to print off.

irischild.blogspot.com/2018/03/menstruator-and-other-words-that-rhyme.html

gendercritter · 25/10/2018 15:56

It is dehumanising. I menstruate. I'm not a menstruator. I'm a woman.

If they were reporting on something to do with bowel cancer would they say 'shitters....'? They bloody wouldn't and they know exactly why.

And this stupid word is supposedly kind and considerate to men. Yet it just makes me think of girls around the world who have to go and live in horrible dirty huts every time they have their peiods and the girls who get told they're unclean and are ostracised every single month for years of their lives. The girls who are treated like animals.

We should be going in the direction of destigmatising periods rather than this.

BreakWindandFire · 25/10/2018 15:59

I just read the article and it does say ‘women and their petiods’ many times and only once says “asked 548 menstruators”

It's because the tweets from the Guardian publicising the article only refer to 'menstruators'

genderrefusenik · 25/10/2018 16:11

This is a bollocks and has made me delurk to comment.

I just made a complaint to the reader's editor: www.theguardian.com/info/2014/sep/12/-sp-how-to-make-a-complaint-about-guardian-or-observer-content

Arguing that it contravenes the editorial code under section 12. Discrimination, which frustratingly talks about "gender" instead of "sex", but does mention "perjorative" language.

Shame it says "individual" too, and they'll prob reject it on those grounds, but I am so sick of this shit, not letting it go any more

rightreckoner · 25/10/2018 16:13

Also it’s not even an accurate write up. The survey asked women, some of whom had never had a period and therefore were not menstruators. Those who had were asked about period pain - now or in the past - ie including those who were once mensturators but are no longer. The catch all term for these people is women.

Does the Guardian need a revision course on Venn diagrams.

Badgerthebodger · 25/10/2018 16:23

Brava Janice - total shero.

I now have a Times sub, entirely due to her fantastic journalism

hipsterfun · 25/10/2018 16:28

It could have been worded ‘women who menstruate’ but because the rest of the article had no attempt to erase women, I’m not so sure this is a clear case of trans politics at large

Me neither.

But the G can still fuck off.

VforVienetta · 25/10/2018 16:32

Gobsmacking levels of bullshittery.

Melamin · 25/10/2018 16:37

Surely the word they are looking for is mxnstruators?

Janice is Brilliant.

Eppursimuove · 25/10/2018 16:39

why does anybody still read the Guardian? Apart from the army of the Woke

rightreckoner · 25/10/2018 16:43

Can anyone cheer me up by telling me how badly they are doing financially ? They need to go bust, ideally whilst owing Owen Jones some salary payments.

I say this as a once devoted Guardian and Observer reader.

MnerXX · 25/10/2018 16:44

Yay to Janice for taking no bullshit!

gendercritter · 25/10/2018 16:46

I don't Eppur, but I guess some are so this still needs tackling. They are in dire straits, I believe, so I can't imagine they'll last much longer.

FermatsTheorem · 25/10/2018 16:51

Janice you are a star.

And yes, you're why I took out a Times sub.

And furthermore, fuck off Guardian.

WhereYouLeftIt · 25/10/2018 16:52

"I wonder how many women have taken out subscriptions to the Times because of Janice's journalism? Now that would be an interesting stat for the things MNers buy thread."

I did.
