A moment of pause to venerate Janice Turner

Thank you

VickyEadie · 25/10/2018 20:43

Post menopausal woman here. Never offended by someone saying or writing 'women' to describe women who menstruate. "Offended", FFS!

arranfan · 25/10/2018 21:21

Interesting - Christine Burns made a clumsy attempt to out Janice Turner as having made a substantial volte face from something she wrote 4 years ago.

Almost uniformly, the comments are along the lines of, "Someone does more research and changes their mind in the light of it: starts out supportive, gains some experiences and grows".

^Can anyone cheer me up by telling me how badly they are doing financially ? They need to go bust, ideally whilst owing Owen Jones some salary payments.

I say this as a once devoted Guardian and Observer reader.^

Me too. Another one who subscribes to The Times because of their stance on trans issues. I am also post-menopausal and am not concerned that I no longer have periods but bitterly resent use of this hideous term.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 25/10/2018 21:26

Anyone feeling depressed over this should check out #GuardianSongs on twitter, it might cheer you up

thecatfromjapan · 25/10/2018 21:36

Love Janice. 💐

I'm slowly joining in on this.

Went to the shop at the weekend. I used to buy The Guardian every day. Last weekend, I did not. I got The Sunday Times and a local Herald.

I won't be buying The Guardian anymore.

Fuck you, The Guardian. Fuck you.

GulagsMyArse · 25/10/2018 22:13

AspieAndProud your posts are so funny.

Anyway, Im back, had my cry, now just up for be a very annoying woman in general.

I’m a Times subscriber too. I no longer get the Observer, after many decades. I used to buy the Guardian whenever I wanted a daily paper, but I stopped a while ago.

KataraJean · 25/10/2018 22:26

Agree with this thread, Janice is excellent

LondonPainter · 25/10/2018 22:49

Adding my name to an already long list! I used to be a fully committed Guardian reader of their typical demographic (public sector, left wing) and never thought I'd take a Murdoch paper. Last year I took out a subscription to the Times purely on the strength of Janice's writing.

pachyderm · 25/10/2018 22:50

The responses to that tweet ffs....My mother and daughter do not menstruate; they are respectively too old and too young. All three of us are still FEMALE though and not remotely excluded from any article relating to women's health.

VelvetReVulva · 25/10/2018 23:04

I was wondering if this was because of an overzealous attempt to not offend trans men, rather than trans women, not sure they’ve actually complained about it though?!

Annoyingly I’ve wanted to buy some Thinx pants for ages but now can’t as they’ve pissed me off with their ‘people with periods’ shit.

rightreckoner · 25/10/2018 23:10

I think there are other brands that do actually permit themselves to use the word woman. I’d definitely be boycotting thinx if I weren’t a former menstruator - now a non-menstruator - and thus more like a cis man really than any sort of a woman.

Bonions · 26/10/2018 19:00

She’s not giving up!

Prostate cancer: radiotherapy could extend thousands of lives, study finds
Use alongside traditional treatment in advanced cases ‘could benefit 3,000 men in UK’

I object to the bigoted excluding language in this
@guardian
article. How dare they use “men”. Not all men have prostates. Some women have prostates. The term should be “prostate owners”.

CoolGirlsNeverGetAngry · 26/10/2018 19:27

I’ve just informed my extremely woke dp that I cancelled our joint subscription to the Guardian on our joint amazon account and if he wants it he can pay for it out of his own pocket. I stopped reading a while ago but I’m ashamed to say I’ve only just got angry enough to cancel.

EverardDigby · 26/10/2018 19:32

I'm another one that used to subscribe to The Guardian (and before that had it delivered) but now have a Times subscription (just in case The Guardian is reading).

hackmum · 26/10/2018 20:07

Has anybody noticed the correction at the bottom of the article? They’ve changed it after complaints.

ErrolTheDragon · 26/10/2018 20:33

'This article was amended on 26 October 2018 to more precisely link the language with the survey it describes.'

Wonder if they changed anything other than 'women' instead of 'menstruators'?

Voice0fReason · 26/10/2018 22:32

Love Janice

Guardian are a complete joke

PeakTrans · 26/10/2018 22:42

PeakTrans · 26/10/2018 22:43

This is me peak transient yet again

corlan · 26/10/2018 22:45

Had been a trusting Guardian reader for over 35 years. The last couple of years they have often been so 'woke' as to be a joke. It was the Guardian's reporting of a fell runner named Lauren Jeska who attempted to murder a UK athletics official that peak transed me. They never mentioned the rather important fact that Lauren was biologically male and that she was being investigated as to whether she met the criteria to compete as a female runner.
When a newspaper lets ideology get in the way of facts, it's fucked.
