I’ve hit peak trans!

Thanks, ‘Dr’ Rachel McKinnon.

What made you hit peak trans, and why? Apologies if this has been done to death - new to this topic.

Do you think Rachel realised her agenda has spectacularly backfired and peak transing thousands? For the first time in my life I, a staunch labour voter, feel I have to rethink my political leanings and can no longer support a party that are choosing to collide in misogyny and support self ID.

Peak trans for me was reading about Anne Ruzylo.

I have been watching R. McKinnon’s escalating peaktrans machine with interest. RM seems unable to see or stop.

I’ve also thought that a high profile TW in Olympic running, or other popular sport, might be interesting. I can’t imagine the crowds cheering if they perceive the race was unfair.

Rose McGowan for me. Seeing a clearly male-bodied person stand up and scream accusations of genocide at a rape survivor while she was talking in public about her rape was a real eye opener.
As was the massive social media pile on afterwards, calling her a terf and criticising her for finally losing her temper after she clearly tried to defuse the situation first.
And then finding out that she was being called transphobic because she said that trans women didn't have the same experience of puberty because they didn't get periods or grow breasts.
It was a huge wtf moment for me.

Juells · 25/10/2018 09:53

Peaktrans for me started on another board, which had one lone middle-aged transwoman poster. I thought she was a lovely person, everyone was very supportive. Then one day she casually remarked that she was a lesbian 😲

If only we had a women's political party to provide guidance on campaigns and leverage our anger and drive to improve this society around us by centring women and girls.

the problem there is all the women I know are too fucking busy!

And, among the reasons we're so busy and tired - would be the inimical or downright unhelpful/hostile social structures around us. It's foul.

I think it's one of the reasons that we need clear, ethical guidance from a political party, special interest group that we can trust. An organisation that won't waste our scant time resources and effort

Badmoonsarising · 25/10/2018 10:20

Not completely sure as it’s been about 3 years now but the new IOC guidlines round that time got my attention. Was round about the time of Lauren Jeska and Davinia Ayrton. That’s when i started double checking certain crimes being reported in the media as being carried out by “women”.

Misteryise · 25/10/2018 10:22

It seems like all the political parties drink the Kool Aid, even WE which is disappointing.

Avegemitesandwich · 25/10/2018 10:23

I don't know what actually peaked me, but I know that Caitlyn Jenner being awarded Woman of the Year and then saying that the hardest thing about being a woman was deciding what to wear started me off. I distinctly remember being like Hmm WTAF?

Vanessamessa · 25/10/2018 10:37

Its the sum total of idiotic acceptance of misogyny on the left that peaked me. I don’t understand how we got to a situation where women are, largely, unable to express concern in the effects of proposed changes in the law or underscore failures in policy practice, without being shouted down/accused of thought crime/singled out as worthy of abuse...

BleakBetty · 25/10/2018 22:53

Some really great resources and information guys, thank you so much. I’ve been thoroughly reading and learning more on the subject and definitely solidified my GC perspective!

Why isn’t there more support for our views though? They’re logical, commonsensical and in no way radical! Is it just a case of whoever shouts the loudest is heard, or a fear of being labelled transphobic? Or that misogyny prevails and essentially we’re being silenced by men!?

Peak trans for me was when I realised that women on here still believe in bogey men (in women’s clothing) in the locker room. It made my interest in ensuring trans rights were represented, peak. As a result of these boards (thanks ladies) you’ve converted me into a missionary aiming to protect trans people from the vile rhetoric of these boards.

Avegemitesandwich · 25/10/2018 23:05

Peak trans for me was when I realised that women on here still believe in bogey men (in women’s clothing) in the locker room.

Do you realise how offensive you are being saying that? How insulting that is to female victims of male violence?

I guess not.

FadingMint · 25/10/2018 23:12

My boundaries. Men in women's spaces, in women's faces, in women's opportunities? NO. Smile

Still a NO to trashing women's boundaries.

Still a NO to the gaslighting.

Still a NO to jeopardising child protection protocols.

FermatsTheorem · 25/10/2018 23:36

And thinking that women should shut up and put up with penises in spaces where they're naked makes you a raving misogynist in my books, F4, so I guess it's honours even.

AncientLights · 25/10/2018 23:37

F4 I'm not going to call you Feminist because that's one thing you are not. You are clearly a troll, so get back under your bridge. If you really cannot see the danger of any man being allowed to call himself a woman and use women's changing room and toilets, then you are either naive or plain stupid. Along with the rest of your woke brigade. If that makes me transphobic in your view, then I am proud to be so.

DrizzledWombat · 25/10/2018 23:38

I didn't share your views until maybe a year ago. I came here because I was curious to know why those horrible Mumsnet bigots had such a massive beef with trans people who just want to use bathrooms in which they feel safe. It was only after some reading that I gradually realised that the horrible Mumsnet bigots had some very good points, and that there are important subtleties that are not obvious at a cursory glance (or at least weren't to me). At which point I became a horrible bigot myself.

So I think all of your suggested explanations are probably true but I also think that a lot of people, like the former me, are used to being inclusive and tolerant and on the side of the oppressed, and just reflexively assume that the pro-trans position is the right one without really thinking very hard (or at all) about what they're actually signing up to.

AncientLights · 25/10/2018 23:40

Why do they not get how totally offensive and objectionable it is to have an uninvited cock in your line of vision? The only cocks I want to see are ones I have expressly given permission to be there. Otherwise it's threatening. I do wonder how long it will take for women to turn violent towards such men, who will clearly not expect it, as we're all supposed to be such naice ladies and just put up with crap.

Unicyclethief · 25/10/2018 23:41

For very different reasons: Julie, Miranda, Posie, Germaine, Ash, Caitlin, Dr. Harrop, Rachel D. Rachel M, Ash again, Dr, Harrop some more. And a whole host of others on twitter and on here!

FermatsTheorem · 25/10/2018 23:42

Drizzled I think we all started where you've started from.

I remember as a grad student many moons ago thinking Germaine Greer was being horrible for campaigning against Rachel Padman's fellowship at Newnham (this would be early 90s). Oh how wrong I was (sorry Germaine, mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa).

I've seen people on here say "I signed the petition to allow Tara Hudson to be moved to a women's prison, then discovered about Tara still being in possession of a 7 inch surprise..."

Most of us are live-and-let-live liberal people - until it dawns on us that the transactivists are not live-and-let-live people, they are invade-your-space-and-take-away-your-rights people.

AncientLights · 25/10/2018 23:42

Yes Drizzled: lots of use come from that stance, always having been left of centre, felt we were always on the side of the angels. So we, naively as we now know, just supported trans people thinking how beleaguered and victimised they were. Until we started to read about it and realised how we were being played.

Unicyclethief · 25/10/2018 23:43

And Graham Linehan, how could I forget him! I love him!
