TG day of remembrance

When did 20 November become the transgender Day Of Remembrance?

Is there an International Women's Day of Remembrance? We bloody well need to get onto it given the numbers of us who are actually killed every single day. And given that the majority of women who are murdered are killed by men, that's anti-women (adult human female, to be clear - and that's not exclusionary, trans women don't want to be included anyway, they've made their own day they can't now complain about not being in ours).

And I do hope that they'll be remembering the trans people killed by other trans people. Because there are a fair few of them too.

Oh FFS

No-one on here "doesn't care" about "any life lost". Just stop it with the twisting vile insinuations

VerbeenaBeeks · 24/10/2018 00:35

Nope, not twisting - saying that why should they have one, it hardly ever happens and it's not in the UK anyway - it's all here on the thread if you have a look.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_unlawfully_killed_transgender_people Yes it does happen, there are many links backing this up. This one seemed to put a lot of them in one place. Pull your heads out of the sand. People are dead and this pure disrespect because you don’t believe they are woman or whatever is astonishing

There you go then, actual link and not the one people have said to others no not that one, stop posting it" - a whole list in one place that can be backed up from others to show yes,it actually does happen. Even some on here are saying it doesn't.

VerbeenaBeeks · 24/10/2018 00:47

Even if some on here that should read

Ereshkigal · 24/10/2018 00:53

Yes it happens. In Brazil. As no one has said otherwise. It's dishonest to claim the UK has a trans murder problem. Which no one has done here, but as pp said the likes of Bergdorf do by claiming they have an average life expectancy of 35.

VerbeenaBeeks · 24/10/2018 00:56

I will light a candle for all who have lost their lives on transgender rememberance day, as I will also be doing on Nov25th for woman and regularly do on most rememberance days

Nice plan, think I will be doing too for both.

VerbeenaBeeks · 24/10/2018 00:59

Even if it does happen in Brazil and not the UK like people are making out, it clearly does happen then.
Are we not allowed or shouldn't be remembering or caring about anything that isn't in our country?
Do away with foreign aid then if that's the case.
Oh and any appeals for starving children in Africa etc. Doesn't concern us.
Except it does as I don't think like that.

OlennasWimple · 24/10/2018 01:01

But why does Random English Local Authority feel compelled to light a candle to remember the Brazilian sex workers who were murdered, in part due to their sex worker status? That's one aspect that many of us on here are puzzled (or infuriated) by: that in a very short space the narrative that there is no group more vulnerable than the trans population has gained such traction, when it just isn't true in the UK

It's perfectly possible to feel compassion for the individuals involved - and many of the stories are truly tragic - whilst also questioning the murder stats juggernaut

Agree. I've read plenty of those stories. I went and looked them up in Spanish or Portuguese (both of which I speak). They are tragic and horrifying. The killers in many cases are clearly targeting GNC males. They do not see them as women, but something on the same level, which is a lesser man. A gay man, a man who acts like a woman. But they know he isn't.

catkind · 24/10/2018 01:10

Not saying don't have one, saying it's being misrepresented in a scaremongering way, either to or by many of the participants, to make it seem like they're in danger. For example by confusing murders of transgender people and transphobic murders, or quoting statistics without examining the confounding variables.

Ereshkigal · 24/10/2018 01:15

13 women are killed in Brazil every single day. That's only the ones they know died. Plenty just disappear off the face of the earth.

foxyliz26 · 24/10/2018 01:19

As an old lesbian who has worked the gay switchboard for many years , anyone objecting to this day perhaps would like to contact William Lounds mother ,to explain why they think her son shouldn't be remembered ?

as a mother myself I find it very strange that mothers or women are objecting to mothers who have lost their children to murder

Williams Murder didn't receive the press attention nationally and hjs Transman status wasn't reported at the time , he was just a 30 year old student at University

Ereshkigal · 24/10/2018 01:21

No one is objecting to the day. The remembrance is great. We're just sick of being told about a non existent trans murder epidemic.

VerbeenaBeeks · 24/10/2018 01:23

So you're ok to find it horrifying if its a gender non conforming man as any killers don't usually see them as women, and as a "lesser man" so not really a man either.
Do transwomen get a pass too? ALL transpeople should be able to have a remembrance Day.

VerbeenaBeeks · 24/10/2018 01:24

It happens in Brazil but now it's a non existent epidemic. Make your mind up. Confused

Ereshkigal · 24/10/2018 01:25

IN THIS COUNTRY

VerbeenaBeeks · 24/10/2018 01:26

@foxylix26 as a mum myself it's baffling to me too.

Ereshkigal · 24/10/2018 01:26

Do transwomen get a pass too? ALL transpeople should be able to have a remembrance Day.

They are the GNC males I was speaking of 🙄 as I think you know.

VerbeenaBeeks · 24/10/2018 01:29

Even if it is in another country, you're admitting it happens in other countries. Why shouldn't people remember trans friends and loved ones taken from them by murder? I can have empathy/donate/ remember etc those in other countries too.

Ereshkigal · 24/10/2018 01:30

As I have said I have no issue with that.

foxyliz26 · 24/10/2018 01:52

Ereshkiga

"We're just sick of being told about a non existent trans murder epidemic.",

It really doesn't sound like that !

show some respect , for this poor lads mother , not only was her son murdered but his sister was found dead shortly after

foxyliz26 · 24/10/2018 02:51

Woman
noun
Adult human female

The Traits assiociated with adult human females are

gentleness, empathy, sensitivity, caring, compassion, tolerance, nurturance,

Some posters appear to be saying , their brand of Feminism doesnt include any of the women grieving , who,s children have been Murdered purely for being Transsexual ?

I find it hard to understand , how upsetting Mothers who,s children have been murdered ,and refusing them a day of remberance for their children is part of supposed Respectful Debate ?

as a feminists of 55 years , this was never part of our core beliefs

pennydrew · 24/10/2018 07:05

foxyliz26

Nobody is refusing or has the authority to refuse them anything. It’s a discussion

pennydrew · 24/10/2018 07:09

The William Lounds murder was described as a homophobic attack in the link so not sure of the relevance.

As said repeatedly, this day is supposedly specifically about transphobic homicide.
