Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Is this an about-face from The Guardian?

Well fuck me I wouldn't have expected to read this in the Guardian.

I mean, don't get me wrong, it still focuses on rights for transwomen and calls both sides of the debate "toxic" (of course) but it also says:

..."But misogyny too must be challenged. Gender identity does not cancel out sex. Women’s oppression by men has a physical basis, and to deny the relevance of biology when considering sexual inequality is a mistake. The struggle for women’s empowerment is ongoing. Reproductive freedoms are under threat and the #MeToo campaign faces a backlash. Women’s concerns about sharing dormitories or changing rooms with “male-bodied” people must be taken seriously. These are not just questions of safety but of dignity and fairness."

I mean it's a bit hypocritical claiming to be excluded when NK tried to hound women out of their jobs, but I guess that's the TRA way.

Apologies heresy, off to the gulag for me.

SPOFS · 17/10/2018 20:53

Interesting that this was on the same night as the Pink Awards too...

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 17/10/2018 20:57

Stitch-up seems pretty plausible. That's more-or-less what happened in Canada isn't it, feminist groups thought they'd turned the tide and then the fuckers brought it in anyway?

I just had a look on Twitter and Natacha Kennedy is arguing that trans voices are being silenced and excluded from the debate and others say the Guardian has a terrible record with trans rights.

Is this some other Guardian? Because the one I'm familiar with is misogyny central.

And this comment piece, yes, too little, too late. They've actively allowed their columnists to stir up a horribly hostile situation for women. To come out now with this exercise in feigned reason just smacks of a panic as they realise the damage to their bottom line as more and more people figure out what is really happening.

Look at this today too. From the Lords on child gender dysphoria

OvaHere · 17/10/2018 21:18

others say the Guardian has a terrible record with trans rights.

But the Guardian has their loyal foot soldier LOJ. How can they say that?

We have always been at war with EastAsia

RedToothBrush · 17/10/2018 21:21

Keep up. This is 1984.

We are living it.

OvaHere · 17/10/2018 21:21

Quite Red

ToeToToe · 17/10/2018 21:26

This is so they can say they were fair all along.

Isn't it?

Yes.

And yes, it does feel like 1984.

OvaHere · 17/10/2018 21:29

That was my prediction Toe on a thread a couple of days ago. Last minute attempt to say they always represented both sides.

As soon as Friday is over it will probably business as usual. I'm expecting a massive LOJ piece.

Freespeecher · 17/10/2018 21:34

I suppose all those cancelled subscriptions meant it was either publish that article or add a picture of a dog on a piece of string to their bottom of the page begging bit.

funnytimes · 17/10/2018 21:36

I agree with sillage further up the thread, the article describes women as 'other women' alongside trans women. I couldn't get past this on first reading

BettyDuMonde · 17/10/2018 21:37

Kennedy is wrong. It’s not 4 pro women articles in 4 days, it’s 5 prowomen articles in 4 days.

TimeLady · 17/10/2018 21:43

Looks like I'm blocked from Kennedy's tweets - I've never even heard of her before. Must have been put on some list by India Willoughby, who blocked me last week Grin

RedToothBrush · 17/10/2018 21:45

And how many pro women articles in the last 6 months versus anti woman ones?

ToeToToe · 17/10/2018 21:50

Red - Just Hadley's, I think.

BettyDuMonde · 17/10/2018 21:50

No idea, but judging by the ‘related stories’ under the guardian article about the MP meeting, there were none at all between June and October.

So I would assume we are owed quite a few more!

colouringinpro · 17/10/2018 21:51

They can fuck right off

THIS. With fucking bells on.

ToeToToe · 17/10/2018 21:51

I'm blocked by India W and on terfblocker too. I spent more time logged out of twitter than logged in at the moment, otherwise there are gaping holes in conversations Wink

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 17/10/2018 21:56

how many pro women articles in the last 6 months versus anti woman ones?

There were 2 unforgivable ones that I noticed. The first lobbied for a dangerous sex offender to be moved to the female estate, the second celebrated a mother who sourced cross-sex hormones for her minor child against NHS advice.

The Natacha Kennedy thread for those of you blocked. This is from 14hours ago.

Deeply Unhelpful Saboteuse @natachakennedy
This is what the "trans debate" has become;

"A debate about trans people from which trans people are excluded"

When was the last time you saw a #trans person in the media arguing for trans rights
@guardian

@Independent
?

No-one is being silenced except trans people.

This is not just silencing by forgetful omission or by 1 or 2 sub-editors, this is a system-wide, coordinated, deliberate, targeted exclusion of #trans people's and our supporters' voiceas from mainstream media, focussed on excluding those arguing in favour of GRA reform.

Yet the voices whose arguments are being heard everywhere in the media are not only arguing that they are being silenced but being given multiple platforms to do so.

If you are shouting "I AM BEING SILENCED!" in mainstream media, you are not being silenced.

Yet one of the anti-#trans groups has started engaging in stirring up hatred and vigilanteism against #trans people with the obvious aim of inciting violence against us in Manchester.

Attempting to silence some of us permanently.

Are any mainstream news rags reporting this?

The @guardian has published four articles in four days arguing against #trans rights. Not a single one has included a trans person's voice arguing the contrary position.

...yet two of those four articles tell us that anti-#trans voices are being "silences"

This is beyond parody, it has become Orwellian.

The @guardian is shredding its credibility (credibility built up by the amazing work of people like @carolecadwalla), in favour of clickbait.

And that was BEFORE the editorial.

NewWomensMovement · 17/10/2018 21:58

Too many people have short memories. Give it a few weeks and half the woke will be saying this is what they believed all along.

So true.
