Stonewall have hit that point where they think they are above the law and are making themselves too noticeable and too much of a nuisance.
Whoever is at the top is going to use them as a scapegoat and it will be in the next 12 months.

Datun · 17/10/2018 15:42

I would expect every brand manager who cries 'but that's not what Stonewall told me, I didn't know about this' to be sacked.

Or - they did know and are perfectly happy with this.

Well let's see which one it is then.

I, and every other person who is opposed to self ID knows exactly why. I can back it up. And I am highly confident of my position.

If Tesco, for instance, is going to disagree with me, they ought to, at the very least, be able to explain why.

Especially as the very people whose safety they are debating, form the bulk of their client base.

OvaHere · 17/10/2018 15:46

So... P and G, remind me what products do they make?

www.pg.co.uk/our_brands

I wonder who purchases most of those products? Especially Pampers and Tampax?

Charliethefeminist · 17/10/2018 15:49

That is a handy boycott list

IKeepFlouncing · 17/10/2018 16:37

Foiseme I don’t know as I was in a bubble but that would explain a lot. The person who ran Sure Start she fought to keep that centre open, had built it up from scratch, fundraised some much over years and support for family’s and kids went above and beyond. Scary to think where some of these kids be now. They wouldn’t discuss (although word was something about disagreeing with some of their views) why they wouldn’t be working under Action 4 kids, completely cut ties. The few staff that took up jobs lower level ended up losing jobs anyway.

LangCleg · 17/10/2018 16:44

I suppose nothing says most oppressed more than having the backing of GCHQ, does it?

TerfedOff · 17/10/2018 16:50

Looks as though Stonewall used all those companies for their support to a very bland statement of trans rights which everybody will agree with. I doubt it was sold to those companies as having any more political significance than that.

So the subtext of course is that's Stonewall support the proposed amendments to the Gender Recognition Act but I honestly don't think that anybody in the public would understand that from this or that it would influence the way that they would fill in the consultation. It's not like all those companies are saying you must fill in the consultation this way.

The general public have their own opinions on all this and I doubt that that poster will affect people's opinions one way or the other. What people don't know about is the consultation and I think the more attention that is drawn to the consultation and the more people fill it in the better.

BertrandRussell · 17/10/2018 16:58

Of all the cognitive dissonances that makes my head go round and round on this issue, the most disadvantaged, marginalised and powerless group but with extraordinary political influence and clout is the most head spinning. They have literally changed the way society operates in less than a decade.

Hamster00 · 17/10/2018 17:02

They couldn't even get the colours of the trans flag the right way round either if that's what their header text colouration was trying to convey. Just saying....

Imnobody4 · 17/10/2018 17:02

James Kirkup is asking questions on twitter 're GCHQ, a breach of cabinet office rules? They have tweeted the ad on their twitter feed.
Sussex police also support. This must be a breach of duty to be impartial.

SunsetBeetch · 17/10/2018 17:25

I wonder who has been making these alleged threats, amd whether we'll ever see any evidence of them Hmm

Except the ad links to lobby group Stonewall’s consultation guidance that is completely biased and ignores the impact on women’s rights

sorenipples · 17/10/2018 21:17

If I were fair play for women I would take out another add. It would repeat stonewall's message word for word except the link. It would then define trans equality and explicitly stated what is not considered equality but infringing on women's rights. Hopefully in a concise snappy way.

"Trans equality, the right to gender expression of the opposite sex, but not the right for anyone to self identify the as literally being the opposite sex and gain access to all their spaces."

Or
"Trans equality: the right to express as the gender identity of the opposite sex, not the right to remove the concept and established protections around biological sex

P.s. There is a lot more to this than toilets" .

If I were fair play for women I'd think of better wording, but you get the idea.

^To be fair, the last tweet is a bit daft. Stonewall have plenty of money, even for a Metro ad (which as we all now know costs 45k+). They didn't need money from these orgs/companies, just their support.

borntobequiet · 17/10/2018 21:55

Just emailed P&G asking if they know what Stonewall stands for and who they define as transgender. Mentioned hazards of self ID and potential abuse by predatory men. Pointed out the vast majority of their customers are women and that I personally will look out for their many brands (helpfully listed) in order to avoid buying them.

a bit knackered, have just emailed everyone on my list i could get an email address for, to explain the context of the ad and ask if they had understood that at the time they agreed to place their logo on there.

also emailed my MP, Penny Mordaunt and the women and equalities committe

brain melting now....

breastfeedingclownfish · 17/10/2018 22:29

Why is noone asking where the cash came from?

Women are 50% + of the population, but yet it was deemed impossible that FPFW had crowd funded the cash for the Metro ad.

Transgender people are less than 1% of the population, but no questions are asked.

Why are only women's groups questioned re. funding ?

And why is noone asking why Stonewall is not funding refuges for transpeople with the money they have spent on the Metro advert?

What Sonia Poulton says in tweet above tallies with what I'm aware of.

miri1985 · 18/10/2018 00:17

Went to order off asos a few weeks ago and ended up cancelling the purchase, had to sign up for a new account as I've forgotten the password to my old one and the "gender" options were girl or guy.

I'm an adult, why does the female option seek to infantalise me while the male option is applicable to all ages. Glad they didn't get my money now
