My friend just posted this on Facebook this morning. She isn't on MN so I have her permission to share. She would really like more people, especially people with ASD or who have children with ASD, to write to NAS thanking them for their willingness to listen and their agreement that Mermaids is not reputable.

This is really great news so please can we keep this bumped and shared. Thank you.

If posters on the SEN board would like to share that would also be great (if appropriate).

Dear XXXX ,

Thank you for your feedback regarding the Gender and autism page on our website.

I’m writing to let you know that I’ve raised your concerns regarding Mermaids UK, one of the organisations we link to on our Gender and autism page, with a number of teams within the National Autistic Society. In light of the concerns raised in your message, and of other feedback that we have received, we have decided to remove all links to Mermaids UK from our website, while we take the time to consult with relevant professionals and to reconsider which organisations we wish to place links to on our website.

As such, our Web Team are working to remove all links to Mermaids UK from our website as soon as possible. Please do be aware, however, that, as we are currently in the process of updating our website to reflect our new branding and organisational identity, it may take a few days for this to be actioned.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention, and I hope that you are satisfied with the actions we are taking in light of the concerns that you have raised.

Kind regards,

National Autistic Society

I'm not repeat it any more, if you don't get it yet you never will.
Although i suspect you do get it but are so wrapped up in finding out we're all transphobes you don't want to admit you get it.

That is fine also, however you want to spend your time. But please stop dismissing and belittling things a lot of people with autism find upsetting.

ThefusilliJerry · 06/10/2018 20:56

Spiritual is clearly trying to create an atmosphere of threat around this discussion and needs to be removed.
Nasty little bully.

DayMay · 06/10/2018 21:17

Pink news commissioned a YouGov poll recently, 82% of the population are against self-I'd.

No wonder there is a push for a totalitarian state.

HerFemaleWoman · 06/10/2018 21:42

Can we just ignore the transactivist now, it’s becoming draining them bombarding mumsnet now.

Can we not just take leaf out of Birds Eye book and just reply ‘potatoe’

Sciencelover101 · 06/10/2018 23:12

For goodness sake, when will you wake up to reality? Having spent several months/years reading the same nonsense isn't it time to just speak the truth? Not one single person on this planet has changed sex, it is a lie and a myth perpetuated by perverse individuals

OldCrone · 06/10/2018 23:14

Sciencelover101
Have you actually read any of the threads on here?

disrespectfulpenguin · 07/10/2018 07:09

Sciencelover101
Well done you for coming round to the rad feminist way of thinking. YUP no one on the planet can change sex....... TOTALLY on the same page sweetie,
Now Gender what do you mean by woman and gender? Hopefully we will have this all sorted in no time.....

disrespectfulpenguin · 07/10/2018 07:11

Who DOES NOT agree with
Sciencelover101 on the following?

no one on the planet can change sex.......

Males can not become females........

Spirituallove · 07/10/2018 10:19

A growing number of people disagree. There are complexities to every human mind that many individuals have a problem getting their heads around. Sometimes it is hard to understand why a person will have different ways of thinking and doing than others. It is not as simple to say that a woman can't become a man, or a man become a woman. That is the reason behind the word "trans" being a prefix to identify that. It is also, with research and understanding, apparent that there are persons who realise they have been born as the wrong gender to what they feel comfortable with. The traditional idea of what gender entails is disappearing, and people need to adapt to the fact that other forms do exist. And then we can live in a world where humans become accepting of each other, rather than fighting all the time.

Nicknamesalltaken · 07/10/2018 10:21

Gender can change, sex stays the same.

And someone tell the men folk who think it’s fun to embarrass or harm women that they need to ‘just be kinder’ and all will be well in the world 🙄

And what does this have to do with The NAS no longer linking to Mermaids?

Have you been onto the NAS website and looked at the pages yourself?

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 07/10/2018 10:28

then we can live in a world where humans become accepting of each other, rather than fighting all the time

But you are not accepting, you've spend the whole thread belittling and dismissing Autistic history because of one rouge charity.

What you want is the world under one rule, under your ideals, your version of perfection.
This isn't acceptance.

OldCrone · 07/10/2018 10:28

It is not as simple to say that a woman can't become a man, or a man become a woman.

Do you actually believe that people can change sex?

ChrysanthemumsAreMums · 07/10/2018 10:28

Spiritual

You are free to believe what you believe. I am free to disagree. You do not have the right to change my belief, make your belief the basis of law, and to gain privileges over women.

Spirituallove · 07/10/2018 10:29

I was answering direspectfulpenguin's post, directly above mine.

OldCrone · 07/10/2018 10:32

It is also, with research and understanding, apparent that there are persons who realise they have been born as the wrong gender to what they feel comfortable with.

Nobody is 'born as the wrong gender'. We are not born with any gender. We are born with a sex. Society imposes gender as stereotypes and cultural norms. Many of us are unhappy with that - it's what being gender critical means. It doesn't mean we are born as the wrong sex, it means that society is forcing behaviours and codes onto us according to our sex. We should be fighting to change society to accept gender non-conformity, not changing bodies to match society's expectations.

Spirituallove · 07/10/2018 10:32

To CaptainKirkssparetupee. Where have I belittled or dismissed Autistic history?

OldCrone · 07/10/2018 10:36

The traditional idea of what gender entails is disappearing, and people need to adapt to the fact that other forms do exist.

If only. Transgender ideology is just forcing people into different boxes according to their behaviours and interests. Making people change their bodies to fit with society's expectations is absurd and regressive. Society should progress to be more accepting of people who are different and want to present differently.

But nobody can change sex. Scientific fact.

Spirituallove · 07/10/2018 10:37

OldCrone.

How do you know that human beings aren't born into the wrong sex? Decades worth of research tells us differently. I know people who have had gender realignment operations, and they have become happier than they were before.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 07/10/2018 10:39

Where have I belittled or dismissed Autistic history?
I clearly outlined why the charity of mermaids is an uncomfortable one for those with autism.
How recent events are linked to those in history and need to be prevented from happening again...
You dismissed it with 'pink news' and 'ulteria motives'.
You probably didn't even read it did you?

Spirituallove · 07/10/2018 10:43

But that doesn't mean that I belittled or dismissed Autistic history. I just simply disagree with your understanding of it.

Almondcandle · 07/10/2018 10:50

Are we getting into this weird thing again where the body is some kind of vessel the human brain is dumped into like a demonic possession?

We are our bodies. You can’t be born into the wrong one.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 07/10/2018 10:51

But that doesn't mean that I belittled or dismissed Autistic history. I just simply disagree with your understanding of it.

History is stuff that actually happened.

You disagree sending kids to be experimented on is bad?

What is wrong with you.

Challenor is writing for the Lib Dems on this subject.

Piece by Aimee Challenor who was diagnosed autistic at the age of 4, and who feels that due to their autism they were nearly denied access to gender identity specialists.
